It's Mission Impossible 7: the rest…of it! I know, these two vids are shorter than Starship Troopers from last week, but it had more to do with the length of the movie. Excuses, excuses. Anyway! Deading Reck! Here's everything right with M: I Dead Reckoning!

  • One thing i wish they’d kept in is the original question for benji in the airport scene. instead of the entity asking “are you afraid of death” it was “have you ever thought of harming yourself or others” and i think that would’ve added such shades to benji since he was underutilized in part one. i know it didnt sit well with test audiences, but that is such a powerful revelation for a character who’s been seen as pretty silly since his introduction in MI: 3. like there must’ve been a reason they put that in to begin with, right?? i just want more benji in part two

    @pythoneon@pythoneon2 ай бұрын
    • It really is so much deeper than run of the mill 'im afraid to die so I will do anything to prevent it' and 'im not afraid to die, im afraid of others dying' thats been done so many times. It usually hits pretty well, but questioning someones self worth and morality adds so much more to the niche parts of someones character.

As events happened, the entity constantly adjusted strategies and kept Gabriel updated on what was happeneing, what to do, and especially where to go. I was always shocked that Denliger kept telling the entity "I'm the only person who knows where your weakness is." Then said "I'm sure I'm the only person who knows." Whay didn't he scream "Kill me now." I still haven't seen how Paris was stabbed. I don't see Gabriel's hand go near her there. Kirby did a fantastic job of portraying Atwell acting like the White Widow.

  • The other agent, Degas was right. The Entity is too much power for ANYONE to have, the same reason why Harry Potter destroyed the Elder Wand. “Giving up ultimate power is noble.” Also, that secretary was the Mayor who kept getting beaten up in Stranger Things 3. He even has a similar storyline similar to this one. He was secretly being bribed by these Russians, who were working on this huge machine called “the KEY”, which needed two KEYS in order to activate it.

  • My biggest complaint about this film is that most of the stunts don’t really advance the plot. For example, the entire train-top fight is an intense and fun sequence, but ultimately doesn’t matter at all because the key can just teleport into the possession of whoever the story desires to have it. It feels like a three hour long game of hot potato intercut with wicked stunts and a really, really loud score.

In the beginning, it was advertised as Filmed for IMAX and they complained so much about losing all IMAX screens to Oppenheimer (a film that was made with IMAX cameras by a director who has been revolutionizing IMAX for many years) and then when it actually came out there were no scenes in the expanded ratio.

  • One thing I don't understand is how was Paris able to pull Ethan and Grace up while being stabbed. How was she able to pull them up but then seconds later was struggling to speak and died? I'd imagine pulling someone up in that position puts force on your abs and stomach, something Paris wouldn't be able to do. I think it would be better if she lowered a rope or something for them to grab on, it's more realistic and something she could do after being stabbed. Every time I see that scene it looks more unrealistic, she pulls them up and stands with them with no issue, but 15 seconds later she's unable to speak and dies a few seconds after that. It could have been more impactful if they showed she's struggling to walk, but still finds the strength to push through the pain and lower something for them to grab onto. Shows how much effort she's making to help Ethan and that she chose to risk her life to save them.

  • You should do Blue Beetle! Very underrated movie that I feel would've been highly rated had it not come out in the middle of superhero fatigue.

    • Blue Beetle was supposed to be a HBO max release originally so it felt quite 'contractual obligation' giving it a cinema release [like all the DC releases last year]. Putting it against Barbie and Oppenheimer didn't help it [Across the Spiderverse was a big hit a few weeks earlier] and holding it back for January 2024 would have helped it.

  • Is Lorne Balfe always a win, yet? Because I feel like they're always a win, between stuff like this and Black Adam, just to cite the two that are most immediately coming to mind.

  • Although I am of the opinion that DR wasn't as good as the few movies that preceded it I'm most worried about reports that the producers are absolutely bricking it over it underperforming which does not bode well for the not-yet-made part two being any better...

    • The next film is being renamed and have a much better release date [May 2025 with less competition] but Cruise has been linked to less 'action' projects [like the next Tarantino film] so I wouldn't be surprised if the next film is the last in the series.

  • Movie was enjoyable, even kinda endured the fact that Hayley Atwell’s character was wildly hard to root for due to actively avoiding Ethan’s help. But what took it out of me was certainly Paris getting stabbed by a phantom knife. I kept rewatching it and I literally couldn’t infer where was the moment the bad guy stabbed her, he literally just ran away and left

    • In fairness to Grace, she is an outsider in this world as she's a thief not a spy so she has no idea if Ethan is being truthful. Her character arc leads to her joining the IMF at the end so her character will be different in MI8.

  • It’s a bit of a small complaint and one that they certainly couldn’t have corrected since they did it practically but the locomotive wouldn’t have slowed down as it was free falling, it should have speed up and then potentially exploded from water reaching the boiler, again a small thing but still.
