Kp Fuehrer-Begleit Btl, they were also issued the feldgrau Panzer uniforms with white piped collar tabs and GD shoulder boards, cuff title and Fuehrer-Hauptquartier cuff title. After he was wounded on the Ostfront he spent some weeks on light duty pulling guard on the outer perimeter at the Wolf's Lair Wolfschanze, the 1. LSSAH patrolled the inner perimeter.

  • The injuries and enduring of bombs on both sides were devastating and the having to go back out after being wounded and enduring the healing and having to go on after being severely wounded is a testament in its own. I have been severely wounded twice and I know personally what it is like having to try and operate like a good soldier that has never been wounded. Your never the same and your body is never the same either. Having to grind on wounded, healed to a certain extent, and back out into the fighting is only harder and more grueling than the first or second time. The only thing that makes you any better or safer is the experience you gain by seeing combat and having some experience with what is coming and what might or is going to happen is your only advantage over those who are new or doesn't have much combat experience. God bless you all and enjoy your evening and I hope you have a great weekend.

  • So, they went to Normandy where they got their arses handed to them on a plate by the allies, and then ran away back to safety with only 20 tanks left. Nice smart tunics though.

    • All because the allies had extensive air support and the Germans had none at all. If fighting on all out tank battle and Infantry tactics between the Western allies and the Wehrmacht and SS divisions combined the Western allies most likely would got no where in the Normandy offensive

      @donavan835@donavan83523 күн бұрын
    • @@donavan835 Air power was definitely a factor and the allies developed tactical air support to a fine art, but let's not glorify yhe Nazi's capabilities. The allies would have beat them anyway because they were superior tactically, stategically and operationally. Most of the German army relied on horses for transport. They weren't the super efficient fighting force they were portrayed as.

      @davew4998@davew499823 күн бұрын
    • Credit is where credit is due. The Wehrmacht Lehr Division fought their battles valiantly and most of the time their fought against overwhelming odds against the Western allies and they are honourable soldiers in my book. I on the other hand read too much of boastful remarks in favour of the Western allied armies that are most of them indeed sound superficial.

      @donavan835@donavan83523 күн бұрын
    • @@donavan835 Well, don't read the superficial stuff 😀. Instead, read how brave the allied soldiers were, say in Sicily where each fortified hill had to be taken against well entrenched German positions, one after another. And remember, the allies were a conscript army where soldiers had to be motivated by their officers to leave the safety of their positions and charge the enemy. The Germans were motivated either by a sickening ideology, or the real threat of being shot for cowardice. Yes, a lot of German soldiers were good soldiers and very disciplined, but they were not supermen, and once the allies got their act together they dealt with them professionally and bravely. It was the same with the Japanese. To start with, a Japanese bayonet charge with them screaming Banzai put the fear of God up our soldiers. After a while though, they learnt to stand their ground and machine gun them down.
