In this video I demonstrate how to make a very simple, yet fully functional, bookcase from relatively cheap materials AND using basic tools. Then, once it's made, I show you how you can dress it up a bit more with some custom molding and I even add a fun little secret hidden drawer! Give the video a watch to see me teach a friend of mine how to use some tools to make this great-looking bookcase for her house and then head over to my website to pick up the plans for yourself!

That sponsor you barely mentioned...could have heaped just a little bit more praise and adoration on him. lol. Nice, and funny touch. As generous as your neighbor is, he won't mind you using his car keys for a project.
"Wow, you're using glue like you didnt buy it!" LOL
This was my first video ever, when I did not skipped the sponsorship ad.
Hehe
Look man, I can lose the remote all by myself!! Sitting in the same spot as when I last used it, meaning it should not be lost, since it’s within my reach. Yet I either have some remote gnomes around my house, or my remote has completed its ninja 🥷 training, so there is already plenty of deception going on without giving Mama a place to hide the remote from me as well!! 😂
😉
Get one or two cats, dude. They hunt down those freaking gnomes and problem solved! I never lost my remote again. 😬
@@MCsCreations, I'd rather buy a new remote every day than let another one of those furry demons live in my house. We tried having 2 house cats. They shredded the back of my couch, and most of our mini blinds. Then they both snuck out the door and got knocked up. They were probably out partying with a bad crowd and smoking the Devil's lettuce. They were trouble makers. So, we ended up with 2 litters of kittens at the same time. Our 2 mama cats, who had been best buddies, suddenly hated each other and started fighting. There was constant hissing, and the occasional throwing of paws, until the kittens were gone. To top it all off, one of the little mini-demons they made climbed into one of the bass drums of my vintage '88 Pearl drum set and dropped a deuce. Luckily, my son turned out to be allergic to cats, so I got to re-home all of those felines from Hades. We are definitely dog people.
@@dannyhale7645 I hate to admit it, but I was really secretly hoping that you didn’t find the little adventurer, Kittyana Jones 🐱 🥁, until you had stomped on the bass drum, thereby creating an earthquake for the little guy, and making it seem like it didn’t switch the stone for the treasure well enough and the big ball had been released. (somewhere all around and inside of it!!)
I just wanted to build a bookshelf but man, this guy's sponsor is so humble I have to watch more of his videos.
I like the rigid foam trick. Thats a first for me.
Glad it was helpful
You know you’ve obtained elite status when you snag Fisher’s Shop as a sponsor. Congratulations on your success!
Haha, thanks Joel!
Every time I say "crap!", I think of you. :) Love this channel and your work. Thanks for the video. P.S. best sponsor ever, eh
Hehe, thanks, Chad!
Marking the boards with parts of your body that need to lose weight was a hilarious comment. Your sense of humor definitely adds to the enjoyment of these videos. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed!
I was holding my breath for the flat head screws. Thanks for not disappointing me!
Wouldn't dream of it
Name for your book, "How to be great at being humble!" Agree with trooperjoe73- greta voice for audio books!
Perfect! Haha
That’s hilarious Drew. I’ve done that sponsored by the Hinkle shop in my videos joke as well. Awesome project. Great job my friend.
Thanks 👍
filling the finger hole on the drawer with the walnut block was genius!
Putting the walnut in the finger hole trick was worth the price of admission - great video!
Glad you enjoyed
Using the glue like you didn't pay for it made me nearly spit out my coffee! Nicely done
Haha Glad you liked it!
So glad I didn’t skip past the sponsor spot in this video!
Right? 😉
I bet you had Janelle in stitches for most of the project. Your humor is so fun.
Thanks! Yeah, it was a riot
The day I finally have a room for a workshop I'm going to get aaaaall the plans from your awesome-yet-so-humble sponsor
Yes!! :)
GREAT project Drew, especially after you "Fisher'ed" it up! !! !!!
Thanks!
Love your humour!
Thanks! :)
I fully agree that the shop owner is the most humble ever! Wicket must be the greatest boss ever!
Couldn't agree more!
that half circle of walnut to round out the drawer pull is pure Fisher ingenuity. Great video as usual
Thanks 👍
I loved the way you trimmed out the finger recess after the hole was drilled.
Hi Mr. Fisher, I wanted to share with you how important your channel has been to my development as a carpenter/woodworker. I started watching your channel about five years ago when I was a senior at vocational school, your cutting board video was my first exposure, my teacher showed it to my class at the time. Now I am a senior at Virginia Tech majoring in Building Construction Management, with a few years of construction experience under my belt, and I still watch all of your videos when they come out. I have mimicked and learned a lot of my own skills and now I find myself teaching and mentoring others doing similar projects to this. Also the fact that you are a Christian such as myself is a great addition, your outlook on woodworking and enjoying the craft is something that I was able to relate to! I still revisit your old videos for project ideas, and the one I use most often is the idea of making bandsaw weave patterns and waves for cutting boards. Thank you for making such consistently great content and I hope you have a good day.
Thanks a bunch! Very encouraging to hear that. Thanks for sharing
Makes me think of therussianbadger’s “I’d like to thank today’s sponsor: ME”. Well designed website and well designed bookshelf
Hah, thanks!
Fisher's Shop has been teaching kids great family values for years now. For instance, the lumber my neighbours have adds great value to our family. That is why I think Fisher's Shop is a great company.
I should hire you as my spokesman!
"Wow, you're using glue like you didn't buy it". I spit my beer out all over my tablet on that one.
Haha. :)
As I watched the video, u really sound like Jerry rig everything 🤣👍
I think you mean he sounds like me. 😉
As always, the content is great and the self deprecating humor, top notch. My favorite channel on KZhead.
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks!
Great video Love your humor
Thanks so much!
The secret drawer was a stroke of genius. The whole thing looks really nice. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it!
The friendly jests were fantastic - awesome that she threw them right back at ya :)
Oh yes... she's no stranger to ripping on me. Haha
Cat seems to like it too! And im happy for you to have such a great sponsor
Haha, thanks!
Another great video Drew
Thanks 👍
I told you build it and they will come Great Job on the build
Thanks, Tim
@@FishersShop Praying for you and your family your influences and testimony is far reaching and just remember it is just the beginning stay rooted and strong in the lord
you both inspire and intimidate me "CRAP"
:)
Remember 8’ truck beds?? Ahh it was a better time
This video had everything you need. Drew, a humble sponsor, flat head screws, mention of your very helpful neighbor and outtakes. Thanks for sharing! Your "helper" was awesome too.
Thanks for watching, David!
Another useful and entertaining vid! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
It must be a good bookcase. Even the cat liked it.
You are still my favorite woodworking channel!
haha... "still". You mean despite this awful video, I'm still your favorite?
Wow Drew, how did you find such a humble sponsor? This was a fun project! I like how you were able to keep it simple and then also gave the option of giving it some Fischer’s Shop flair! Might make for a cool series!
Glad you liked it! Yeah, the sponsor was awesome! Very easy to work with
...man I don't know...The stories on that sponsor. Theft of materials from neighbors, using flat head screws. I mean, can you REALLY trust a guy that would use Flat Head screws in today's age? I mean, it's not like he's building a wooden sailing vessel from the early 1900's and keeping it authentic or something. LOL!
That's some Moses level humility! (Numbers 12:3)
Glad you asked if making this video would be worthwhile because it absolutely was! Simple project or not, there is always something to learn and worth every minute to watch!
Thanks, Tom!
Agreed 😉👍
The fix for the hole in the trim was pretty smart!
Gotta love the Kreg track jig. That and a battery circular saw gets the sheets home in my small (compared to American) car.
Yup! It gets the job done!
Way to go with that jigsaw! I always make a horrible mess and my accuracy sucks.
This video was definitely one of the best looking ones you’ve ever made.
Glad you think so!
I’m waiting for your neighbor to ask you to build them something with all the lumber you stole LOL!!!! Amazing job and love the hidden drawer
Glad you liked it!
"I almost died". 🤣. Another great, fun, educational video. TY
Top marks for your sponsor and how nice he is! I hope the sponsorship was generous! Great video Drew.
He didn't even pay me!!
Brother, if you ever need a side job, you could do audio books. Awesome work as always. You make following/copying your projects easy.
Thanks! :)
Always fun to watch Drew! ⌚️
Thanks for watching!
Nice project, and that Sponsor - WOW, what a guy :)
Right?? :)
Always inspiring, always funny. While I would never miss one of your videos Drew, I'd never be your neighbor! 🤣
Awww c'mon
Best woodworking videos out there. Love your humor. Thank you!
Thanks 👍
Fun project. I hope your lady friend learned something other than how to say crap. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thanks for watching, Glen
Lovely job, cat lurking post completed successfully. 😺👍
Haha, yup
Great video buddy. I have to say it is very odd to see you shopping for wood anywhere but your neighbors house. 😂😂 Added bonus is that the cat approves. 🐾🐾
Haha, yup!
Love the drawer!! And the sponsor for this video!
Haha, thanks, Tim!
i enjoy watching your videos for the builds but i enjoy the commentary better...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I really love all your videos
Thanks!
LOVE that you had an "amateur" assistant! That really showed how achievable this is by anyone! Great job as always Drew!
Thanks 👍
outtakes for the win!
9:45 .... I was nervous as I watched Janelle putting her finger under the piece she was jigsawing out... 😧 Anyhoo, it turned out great and she didn't waste too much precious glue... 🙄 The painters tape with weight-loss targets was a pro-move, I didn't see that coming... Nice vid, man ! 🤗 From the Emerald Isle 😎👍☘🍺
Thanks a bunch!! Glad you enjoyed it!
That was great! thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Great project. Answers some questions for a project that's half finished in my shop!!!
Right on!
Awesome video as usual 👍🏻💥👊🏼
Thanks 👍
Great Work!
Thanks
Awesome job. I know she had fun working with you.
Thanks!
Looks neat.
Thanks
Can’t believe how well the mitre on the removable trim turned out, no one would even know there’s a drawer there.. also the double Roman profile looks great👌🏼
Thanks! Yeah I was pretty pleased with how it came out
OK, with all the woodworking videos out there I have to say yours are one of the most enjoyable. Seriously, you do a fantastic job!!!
Thanks 👍 I appreciate that
Fun build and video Drew - fun watching you teach...well I guess you're always teaching in your videos, but you know what I mean!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, it was fun teaching her. Have fun at WBC!
The bookshelf turned out fantastic!! Love the idea of the hidden drawer and your fix for the trim.
Glad you liked it!! Thanks for watching
All the talk about the "rabbits" on the back I half expected Bugs Bunny to appear and run along the edge with his carrot lol
Great job on the bookcase. But even better on the teaching
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the great tip on the new sponsor!
My pleasure! They were a pleasure to work with
Thanks Drew, great little bookcase.
Thanks, David!
So much fun seeing your channel get even better over time. Love the trick getting the walnut in the finger slot on the drawer. Genius!
Thanks so much!! Glad you're enjoying the channel
As per usual from you Drew a brilliant project but this time made from cheaper wood materials, love the hidden draw idea and the simple moulding that gives it that more expensive look i think your sponsor will be happy with this build, and it looks like your friend loves the build as well as her cat who now has a perfect seat with a view. Stay Safe. Barry (ENG)
Thanks, Barry! It really turned out great!
Excellent my friend! This is a wonderful visit as always. But I will say, friends don’t let friends shop at Home Depot. 😂
I prefer HD over Lowes. I've gotten my material from there for just about every plywood project I've done.
@@FishersShop Home Depot is not that great here in NC. Lowe’s is the larger company so they have better stock and materials. HD does usually have the odd things. Wood out here sucks regardless of who you get it from unless you go to one of the mills. Thank you for your awesome videos and the knowledge you share. Between life, seminary, and owning a business, I still haven’t complete the box I’m working on. I will get it finished and send you a picture. Thank you for the motivation and God bless. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
Great video and to see you are helping friends
Thanks!
Cool hidden drawer.
Even Jesus would love to meet your humble sponsor !!!
Love it!
Thanks!!
That bookcase turned out looking great Drew! However, me thinks that that will be the first & last project that your neighbor will be doing with you. 😂😂
We shall see
“Holy crap! I think you sent that one down into China.” 😂
I love that you 2 worked on this together!!
Yeah, it was fun!
Drew your videos are the only one my wife lets me watch, because you make her laugh. Great video! Time to make a side table with some tapered legs? (need one for the mother-n-law) :)
Glad you both like them! Thanks for watching
My partner and I watched this tonight, love the sarcasm so much. We then had a debate if you were an engineer or not... so. Had to go to your site hoping for the information, we were both wrong.......sorta. Depending if it was computer engineering 😂😂. My partners words “you know whether you do woodworking or not if you are having a bad day, you could watch him and know you could get a smile on your face and feel better” so Thank you. ❤ ohh your the unnecessary walnut is very necessary, my mouth drops every video on how effortless you make it look to make beautiful pieces.
The neighbors start hearing crap, crap, crap and they know Fisher's doing another project and its time to start locking everything down so things don't go missing.
I absolutely loved woodshop back in middle school. I miss it, and I can't wait until I'm financially stable so I can buy the equipment to get back into it! Love your channel :D
Right on!
Great job on the bookcase Drew! looks like you and your friend had a good time building it :) Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👍😎JP
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
@@FishersShop Your very welcome Drew! Have a great weekend!😎JP
very nice!
Thanks!
Wish I could come into your shop and make something to feel more confident in my abilities. You make it look so easy.
You can do it!
Great video !! thank you
Glad you liked it!
I really enjoy your videos. They’re always informative, plus you’re pretty entertaining. I love your down to earth sense of humor. You keep making them and I’ll keep watching.
Sounds like a deal, Mike! :)
Thanks for sharing, always a pleasure watching your videoes.
Thanks for watching!
Never heard of the sponsor, much be in Michigan only :) another great video and project!
:)
I have done woodworking off and on since highschool. Recently retired. I have the same Ridgid drill/driver set. About a year ago, I stopped using the driver for things like pocket holes. I prefer using the drill, and adjusting the clutch to about 60 or so to prevent stripping screws. I will adjust the clutch torque until I hit the correct setting.
