  • I think Davie deserves a lot more likes than what he has so far. Come on ladies and gents give him the thumbs up.

  • A salmon on a 3wt rod, 5X tippet and a wee hook - that takes considerable skill and an equal amount of confidence in your gear. Congratulations, I salute a superior angler. That's one fish you'll never forget.

  • Had a good laugh with the Salmon. My biggest wild bow ( 26") was on a 3wt. with 7X tippet. And I had forgotten my net. Once I realized how big it was I was scared to death I would lose it. Your fight had me nervous and rooting for you. When you showed your net I laughed out loud. Well played. That had to be enjoyable that it was on one of your early ties. Thanks for taking us along.

  • I had a good look… I have a picture from the federal fisheries dept made to tell you if the fish caught is a Salmon or a Sea trout! I am 99% confident you caught a Salmon! The outside jaw on a Salmon is in a straight line with its eye and on a Sea trout the outside jaw is well past the eye!

  • Great catch on the 3wt Davie. Think a kelt grilse...👀🎣 Hatches have been poor all round due to the east winds. Don't know whether to fish dry or nymph, so a combo of both usually works. Exemplary change of tactics to use Klink 'n' dink. Like the action on that Cadence rod. Some great scenery too with everything 'greening up' now. It's time to get out and hopefully match te hatch. Tight lines 👍

  • Nice video Dave, and a nice surprise. Can I ask what you see as the advantage of hand lining a big fish like that instead of using the smooth drag on your reel? I use the former all the time on small fish, but anything that pulls gets put on the reel. Thanks.

    @jonatherton@jonatherton15 күн бұрын
    • Hi @jonatherton, One of the best ways to keep a fish on using a barbless hook is to keep a good tight line on them and at points I felt the fish didn't even know it was hooked though when it decided to run I let it go onto the reel..I would agree with you though it's better to play a large fish from a reel..I'm glad you enjoyed the video and for the great question.. All the very best Davie

  • What are the best areas to fish on the river, noticed there is a mention of a rod licence for some areas in Ayrsgire, is this needed?? Never had this on the Spry river nor in Moray. We do have a reasonable price for annual passes for residents of Moray not so sure about down your way.

  • Well done BUT that fish looked like one I had on this Leap Year day 29 February on the Teith; fought like hell and lovely silver/blue with rosy sheen; I'm sure it wasn't a kelt but boy was it slim; I hope the sandeels or whatever along the coast haven't failed, so that they are coming in malnourished. No doubt Natural Resources Wales etc are 'monitoring' the situation, though, so that's all right then...
