  • This is the right way to do it! Most vids just show how to change whatever happens to be in the pan and don't do anything to what's in the torque converter.

    • Hi, This is the correctly way to do a Flush. The other videos are not necessarily wrong, depending what their video is titled, but it can lead to confusion. There is no right or wrong but it's important to know the difference between a change and a flush. A CHANGE is where you would pull the plug and drain less than half of the total fluid. This is recommended by the manual to do at regular intervals. That is why the drain plug exists. A FLUSH is where you drain as much as possible. It's important to note and mention that: It's hard to say what videos you were watching but torque converters are not used in manual transmission vehicles. MOST service manuals recommend a regular CHANGE. A FLUSH is only done when CHANGE has been neglected, or, there is failure where transmission/coolant is mixing, or anything else which requires a full FLUSH.

  • Good tip. The one part you didn't mention is it's best to drain the old fluid out of the transmission's pan/sump, drop the pan and change the filter if possible, and refill with new fluid before starting the engine. That way, as soon as you start the engine, you are immediately pumping new fluid through the system.

  • WELL DONE! -- I do the same for my vehicles' "sealed" transmission: 1. Disconnect the radiator "out-fall" line (to flush the radiator quantity) 2. Install a radiator out-fall drain-line into a opaque gallon container. 3. Install a funnel with added extension line onto the return line. 4. Run engine, replacing equal drained with equal Fresh. 5. When drained gallon is full, shut off engine for a second container and second Fresh gallon. 6. Repeat for some 3.x gallons until out-fall is pink. 7. Pull transmission dip-stick (or "sealed" over-full plug) to ensure transmission is topped off full.

  • Yes this is the proper way, better than small replacement. The return line to the transmission could be a better place to run new fluid if it's possible to gravity feed it. If there is a heater or a device in the way preventing gravity feeding then maybe the fill port is the best option. Thanks for the demo.

  • Warning! the trans pump will move fluid way faster than a gravity drain system. If the trans line starts spitting, turn off the car until the Gravity system can catch up.

    @robertfrey3607@robertfrey3607 Жыл бұрын
    • I thought when it starts spitting it’s finished? Oh you’re saying it will do that while it’s still draining…that won’t be good. I’m glad I read this. This information is just as important 👊🏻

  • Thank you for the helpful video. I would recommend to start the process you would drain your pan first. Do not drop the pan until the color of the fluid coming into the bucket is mostly new because you want to clean any metal shaving or debris out of the pan and then inspect/ install a new gasket or etc last…. after the pan drain, pour in the new ATF into the dipstick to replace what was taken from the pan. Then when the fluid dumping into the bucket is getting cleaner you can inspect the pan when you drop it off the car. I only say this because 60% of your transmission fluid is held in the torque converter. You wouldn’t want to contaminate the pan with old fluid holding debris. This is just my opinion

  • This is an awesome method and I might end up doing it instead of doing multiple changes. My car has a twist cap instead of a dipstick which might actually be favorable for me and it has a sealed transmission. I have to figure out the best part of the process to change the filter.

    @wyattandwill12@wyattandwill122 жыл бұрын
    • Maybe drain pan and replace filter, then replace used trans fluid through dip port, then begin flush as shown. That way you change the filter, won't waste new fluid or run car low on fluid.

  • I have a Citroen c4 coupe (2007) with automatic transmission, I would like to do a complete flush instead of normal change, but this requires opening the transmission coolant lines in order to empty the oil from the torque converter, do you know if this technique is possible with AL4 ? Where are these coolant lines located in the Citroen c4 ? Many Thanks in advance

  • Good video. To make it easier, loosen both the feed and return line from the oil cooler and thread a hose over the feed line. Stick the hose down in one of the oil cans. This way you don’t need the bag feeding trough the dipstick tube.

    @Birdfeeder795@Birdfeeder7953 жыл бұрын
    • Depends on your tools though! Some folks may not have a hose that fits the line, so a shower bag / drip would be easier. The principle is the same regardless!

    • That sounds like a damn good ideal.. That way you are sucking in the same amount of new tranny fluid as you are pushing out. So if you have a sealed unit there is no guess work if you have enough fluid in your transmission...

  • Good video mate have a question tho can this hurt the transmission? I've heard people say it can slip after a flush. I would like to do this to my 06 santa fe. Have it two years and dont know if its ever been changed

    @ds2985@ds29852 жыл бұрын
    • IF its too far gone (its been neglected), a lot of folks recommend leaving it alone. However, leaving it alone will cause it to die anyway as the internal parts are not getting adequate lubrication. It will overheat and cause wear, that's a fact. There is also a chance if its dark enough, that excessive wear has already happened. No idea without taking it apart. So its all a big catch 22 there (If the fluid is really brown, then its been neglected.) why? You can lose gears or have gear slippage because of blockages in the valve body. When flushing, it moves metal particles around and passages can get clogged. However, If the fluid has been changed regularly, I dont see a problem at all. If unsure, do a change, not a flush... I have a video for both :)

    • @@TutorialGenius thanks a million for your reply. It made me realize my tranny (dq250 or od9 audi dct) has a cooler mounted on the transmission body that has hoses for the coolant to go in an out that are easily accessible, the transmission fluid/oil runs inside the oil cooler. In you case the transmission oil goes to the oil cooler that is located in front of the car. That means i would have to remove the coolant to below the transmission level ant then remove the transmission oil cooler to access the oil circuit. So basically i cant do it easily. My transmission as per audi workshop manual should be filled from the drain plug once the snorkel has been fitted after draining. Anyway thank you for your reply!! Appreciate it alot!!

  • I got 2 questions, why didn't you disconnect the outlet oil cooler hose instead of the inlet? Wouldn't that flush out the oil in the radiator too? And as soon as the oil in the bag empties into the system shouldn't you immediately coonect the oil hose back to avoid loosing more oil from the transmission system because you'll end up loosing more than you put in?

      @boostedkidproductions9719@boostedkidproductions9719 Жыл бұрын
    • @@boostedkidproductions9719 I believe that's actually pretty normal, but don't quote me. From my understanding, fresh new ATF has a high detergent content and scours the transmission internals cleaning off gunk, buildup and debris under heat and pressure (old baked fluid deposits, metal debris, clutch material from normal wear and tear, etc.). This is why most mechanics recommend to NOT flush your transmission if the fluid was ALREADY black, burnt and dirty. You can dislodge a lot of crap and cause more issues. You might be going down a rabbit hole of nonstop flushes and filter changes here. May just pay to leave well enough alone. Could also just be you didn't get all the old fluid out and it's mixing with the old dirty stuff.

I have a measured container and told my son to start the truck and I pumped out 6 quarts through the transmission cooler. I did that one more time. I did that one more time 6 in 6 out. If my math is correct at this point you’ll need to add approx 4 quarts to get it full. Takes about 20 minutes.

    • There isn't a trans pan on this vehicle that I am showing this technique on. Also, the trans is not serviceable on this vehicle, so that means no easily accessible filter either. As the car is running, it'll do a full cycle anyway. So if a car has a trans pan, still, it wouldnt matter. Fluid doesnt sit in the pan and stay there, that wouldnt make sense Filter, yes, if you have a filter which IS serviceable, of course, you have the option to change it. if you wish. The video is titled how to flush trans fluid completely, which is what is happening here. I could talk about filters and all kinds of stuff, but people complain about long videos, so its to the point.
