Play a rally of tabletennis on the nintendo switch or make a competition (also with the switch) with other players in your trainingshall. I would like to see Jokke! This would be so nice! • @@NaderEzzat-jl4el It's possible to levitate magnets with a superconductor (cooled close to absolute zero). "Facing similar poles to each other" doesn't work, because magnet in the ball (or the magnet and the ball) would simply rotate to put N-S poles together. You can make a sort of magnetic spring if you confine both magnets (e.g., putting donut-shaped magnets on a rod), but it won't work if either magnet is free to move and rotate, as would be the case in ping pong.

      @Ryan_Thompson@Ryan_Thompson21 күн бұрын
    • @@NaderEzzat-jl4el The ball doesn't have enough mass for that, it will simply flip over.

    • @@Pongfinity Easiest (and possibly only) way to do that would be to use two rackets. Put the magnets on both and hold them apart with opposite poles facing each others. The ball should be attrackted by both rackets, hovering between them.

  • Levitating ball? Put a piece of superconducting ceramic cooled with liquid N2 on the racket, then put a magnet in your ball and you may be able to get it to float. Be sure to wear cryogloves so you don't freeze your hand!

    @aaryngulledge5681@aaryngulledge568121 күн бұрын
    • Yeah, that's a good idea. I think, the better way is to do it vice versa: put the magnets on the racket and put the superconducting ceramic into the ball and then cool the ball in the liquid nitrogen. You also may need stronger magnets (neodymium magnets) to make levitation effect stronger. Maybe you should find and contact some material scientists, who work in the field of superconductivity, they could help you to choose the proper superconducting ceramic and to carry out the experiment correctly.

    @Protocol07@Protocol0721 күн бұрын
  • To make the ball float over the racket: 1) Fix a magnet with north pole on top in the ball. 2) Take another magnet and keeping its north pole at top, fix it on the racket. 3) Take the size and weight of the magnet accordingly. I hope this works. This is actually the only way to make magnets float.

  • The only way to get the ball to hover with this is by using two rackets. facing each others. One with the plus side facing down and one with the minus side facing up. Then let the ball with a magnet inside hover between them. Maglev trains work by having two magnets facing the same polarity towards each others (electromagnets, so they can be switched off), pushing the train up. This won't work with the ball, because it simpy doesn't have enough mass pushing against the magnet, it will simply flip over, so that the opposite polarity will face the racket's polarity.

  • If your budget goes high enough, diamagnets can make magnets float. Diamagnets are sort of the opposite of typical magnets you are familiar with (paramagets and ferromagnets) and they repel instead of attract when exposed to a magnetic field. Back when I was in high school I made a little magnet weakly float above a bismuth yttrium oxide (Bi3YO6) disc submerged in liquid nitrogen, although I was primarily interested in it for its superconductive properties.
