Сам, как и многие, отрицательно отношусь к деланным автомобилям, но после тебя можно смело брать и не переживать - все надежно сделано! One of the signs of a great bodyman is his ability to understand the mechanism of crash dynamics, how a impact occurred, and the ability to reverse the damage. You hook your puller in the right spot, and you can just watch the panel almost magically reverse itself. Its amazing how you can take such twisted junk and turn it back into the beautiful car it was before. Sadly, here in the united states, cars with even a fourth the damage this has is considered totalled by the insurance companies and given a non repairable title and taken to scrap where its cut up and melted down. Labor is so expensive here and the nation's mentality is "ah, I'll just buy new" is why even junk yards are slowly disappearing. One of my favorite ones now just crushes what it gets and ships to a foundry. Of course, are cars are cheaply made econoboxes unlike the BMW you are lovingly restoring. Keep up the great work, Arthur.

I totally agree with you Dave. This is a lost art here in the United States. It's just easier to slap a junk sticker on a car like this and put it in a salvage yard for parts. Arthur is truly an artist. I love that he rescues these cars and puts them back into use, instead of it's ultimate demise in a car crusher.

Don't kid yourself. Unless you are buying a low production car or an exotic almost every OEM does what it can to cut costs and corners when it can. It's all about the bottom line these days. That's not to say some things aren't well designed or built but in general when they can get away with it the cheaper option is usually preferred unless there is a reason to do otherwise. An example would be an OEM introducing a new product line or brand to a market. In many instances the fist generation of that product will be well built and designed so as to establish a reputation of reliability and quality. After that though it starts going downhill until they are forced to boost the products image back up. Power tool manufacturers are especially guilty of doing this. Also just to jump in as a mechanic if something is repaired properly there is no reason why you shouldn't buy it. Want to know how you maintain the disposable consumer culture we live in? Stating things like that. Why should I fix your stuff if you are going to tell me that despite doing my job correctly it is now unsafe and dangerous?

No insurance company will agree to be responsible for such a constructor, in which the structural integrity of the body elements has already been violated, because NOBODY will give a guarantee how they will behave in a new accident! In developed countries, such a deep repair is a CRIME!

Nice work,good panel beater,10 out 10,BUT what he's doing totally illegal where I'm living...For good reason.All those creases weakened, not safe,next hit,goodbye to all the occupants..Rails,can NOT BE repaired, should be replaced with the genuine part,door pillars,sill's can't be repaired, should be replaced etc.etc.At the end that car will be spongy, wouldn't touch it with the six foot pole..

There are two REASONS a motor vehicle is considered a 'write-off': 1) The repairs on the car are worth more than a certain percentage of the replacement value of the car (each insurance company has a different percentage), 2) When the accident is severe enough that the vehicles capacity to absorb another impact is significantly diminished even if all structure is straightened! For those that have not studied engineering here's a quick overview of material mechanics: Metal has three important deformation values.....the 'Elastic' Limit, "Proportional" limit and the 'Plastic' Limit - these values are presented on what is called a Stress-Strain curve for a given material such as steel. The Elastic limit, as the name suggests is when the material can deform and completely return to its original shape ON IT'S OWN and it can still sustain its maximum design load. The "proportional' limit is when the material is deformed a little further, i.e. past the Elastic limit - the structure returns to 97%-99% of its original shape on its own but it's ability to sustain its maximum load is slightly diminished but still considered acceptable. When the Plastic limit is reached, i.e. when deformation is so great that the structure cannot return to anywhere near its original shape on its own.....that structure - no matter if it's straightened, will never be able to sustain its original design load without additional structure introduced to compensate. In order to repair damage to a vehicle that's undergone PLASTIC deformation of its primary structure, requires a stress analysis to determine the necessary repairs which is an incredibly expensive task. This vehicle is unsafe!

Probably correct, but what are the chances that the same car will take an identical hit again? Corrosion protection seems a more relevant issue to me. For the right price, I wouldn't mind driving that car.

@@mike_oe Given that most vehicle accidents involve impact of the front of the car the probability is quite high. He does strengthen the structure however it would need an analysis to make certain it would sustain another hard impact.

Actually, the metal will be stronger after impact and repair. When it is cold worked it "work hardens". This is why you can't bend a pipe back straight with your hands after you bend it because the bent area is now harder than the other unbent metal. Assuming he performs welding correctly the vehicle should be just as good as before. I wouldn't hesitate to drive one of his repairs. On the other hand, there are probably a lot of shady repairmen who don't do it properly.

jib rahil ошибаетесь. Такие повреждения невозможно скрыть полностью. Думаю там достаточно открыть капот, и сразу будет видно что кузов варился.

707 707 По моему с такими машинами "разбита в тотал" нужно запретить все регистрационные действия. т.е. в ПТС вносится запись о том што тс восстановлено и владелец (тот што был на момент аварии) не имеет права продать машину, сдать её в аренду или осушествлять пассажироперевозки. Тогда у перикупов и дгугих мошейников будет гораздо меньше шансов за копейки купить утиль свежего года "заклеить его изолентой" и впарить доверчивому человеку со словами - смотри по ПТС я владелец, крашена? да это я перед продажей решил обновить штоб не стыдно было за машину. Мастеру респект и уважуха!

I agree but so many cars are very light damaged. For example with airbags intact or without frame damage. One year ago I bought Nissan Altima on Copart which was totaled (total loss). Total loss was only because the Insurance Group took away car after accident. Airbags, frame and suspension were ok, without any signs of damage, even though car was totaled..

Seriously. There wasn't a panel, reinforcement, or piece that wasn't tweaked in some way especially on the front end. Damn, that was some hit it took! Props to him, I probably wouldn't have fixed it, just looked for a less bent chassis. He is pretty meticulous in the world of body men. I've done my fair share and worked in a few shops. Some of these guys are crazy with ghetto repairs and a ton of filler. This guy does the work correctly and with the metal filler rod you don't even need spot putty from the looks of it. That repair will last a lifetime.

With a respect to his great job, this car should go direcly to scrapyard after the crash. All for safety important parts are just bent back and straightned an made looking nice. By such a heavily crashed cars should be the VIN deleted from registry, so nobody can repair it and sell

You can buy vin and papers from imported car when it's going to be parted, or if its crashed or burned. Even in your country there are some crashed or burned cars which still have not-deleted vin. There's always some way to pass law.

I know bodymans in LA who doing cars like this and this cars was sold with title branded as "salvage" or "rebuild". Different question, how much bodyguys can make it mm to mm with car-o-liner body specs.

This is pure madness. I'm wondering what remains of the original chassis and bodywork structure integrity after this so called fantastic and spectacular repair. You would be suprised. It is not good as new but also not a death trap as most of you think. It depends on how it is welded. Artur overlaps parts. So cuts and welds are not at one place as is usual for cheap repair. That is death trap. I creates week spot If you do it correctly, than structural integrity is good.

welding make metal weak, that's why it is prohibited in aircraft construction for example

Welding does not make steel weak. it makes metal around a weld strong but fragile. Risk of cracking could be lowered with heat treatment. Aircraft is something else. You are using aluminium. Aluminium welds could strong just as 20% of original material. it is bad material for welding. Thats why are mostly used rivets. Even car industry use rivets for most of joints for aluminium body.

Артур молодец! Золотые руки! Это как раз тот случай, когда получаешь удовольствие от того, что смотришь на такую работу. Сам, как и многие, отрицательно отношусь к деланным автомобилям, но после тебя можно смело брать и не переживать - все надежно сделано! One of the signs of a great bodyman is his ability to understand the mechanism of crash dynamics, how a impact occurred, and the ability to reverse the damage. You hook your puller in the right spot, and you can just watch the panel almost magically reverse itself. Its amazing how you can take such twisted junk and turn it back into the beautiful car it was before. Sadly, here in the united states, cars with even a fourth the damage this has is considered totalled by the insurance companies and given a non repairable title and taken to scrap where its cut up and melted down. Labor is so expensive here and the nation's mentality is "ah, I'll just buy new" is why even junk yards are slowly disappearing. One of my favorite ones now just crushes what it gets and ships to a foundry. Of course, are cars are cheaply made econoboxes unlike the BMW you are lovingly restoring. Keep up the great work, Arthur.

I totally agree with you Dave. This is a lost art here in the United States. It's just easier to slap a junk sticker on a car like this and put it in a salvage yard for parts. Arthur is truly an artist. I love that he rescues these cars and puts them back into use, instead of it's ultimate demise in a car crusher.
Don't kid yourself. Unless you are buying a low production car or an exotic almost every OEM does what it can to cut costs and corners when it can. It's all about the bottom line these days. That's not to say some things aren't well designed or built but in general when they can get away with it the cheaper option is usually preferred unless there is a reason to do otherwise. An example would be an OEM introducing a new product line or brand to a market. In many instances the fist generation of that product will be well built and designed so as to establish a reputation of reliability and quality. After that though it starts going downhill until they are forced to boost the products image back up. Power tool manufacturers are especially guilty of doing this. Also just to jump in as a mechanic if something is repaired properly there is no reason why you shouldn't buy it. Want to know how you maintain the disposable consumer culture we live in? Stating things like that. Why should I fix your stuff if you are going to tell me that despite doing my job correctly it is now unsafe and dangerous?

Cars have been always a deathtrap if you dont drive them how you supposed to drive them. Paying attention to the road not your phone and paying attention to your surroundings. And following street signs. If not then you fucked up.

Nice work,good panel beater,10 out 10,BUT what he's doing totally illegal where I'm living...For good reason.All those creases weakened, not safe,next hit,goodbye to all the occupants..Rails,can NOT BE repaired, should be replaced with the genuine part,door pillars,sill's can't be repaired, should be replaced etc.etc.At the end that car will be spongy, wouldn't touch it with the six foot pole..
Also in Italy this work is totally illegal.You have to substitute each parts of chassis which had hurted

There are two REASONS a motor vehicle is considered a 'write-off': 1) The repairs on the car are worth more than a certain percentage of the replacement value of the car (each insurance company has a different percentage), 2) When the accident is severe enough that the vehicles capacity to absorb another impact is significantly diminished even if all structure is straightened! For those that have not studied engineering here's a quick overview of material mechanics: Metal has three important deformation values.....the 'Elastic' Limit, "Proportional" limit and the 'Plastic' Limit - these values are presented on what is called a Stress-Strain curve for a given material such as steel. The Elastic limit, as the name suggests is when the material can deform and completely return to its original shape ON IT'S OWN and it can still sustain its maximum design load. The "proportional' limit is when the material is deformed a little further, i.e. past the Elastic limit - the structure returns to 97%-99% of its original shape on its own but it's ability to sustain its maximum load is slightly diminished but still considered acceptable. When the Plastic limit is reached, i.e. when deformation is so great that the structure cannot return to anywhere near its original shape on its own.....that structure - no matter if it's straightened, will never be able to sustain its original design load without additional structure introduced to compensate. In order to repair damage to a vehicle that's undergone PLASTIC deformation of its primary structure, requires a stress analysis to determine the necessary repairs which is an incredibly expensive task. This vehicle is unsafe!

He replaced the metal that was deformed beyond limits. And, where he lives, the economy - the relationship between the value of a work hour with that of a luxury car - is different.
Probably correct, but what are the chances that the same car will take an identical hit again? Corrosion protection seems a more relevant issue to me. For the right price, I wouldn't mind driving that car.
@@mike_oe Given that most vehicle accidents involve impact of the front of the car the probability is quite high. He does strengthen the structure however it would need an analysis to make certain it would sustain another hard impact.
Actually, the metal will be stronger after impact and repair. When it is cold worked it "work hardens". This is why you can't bend a pipe back straight with your hands after you bend it because the bent area is now harder than the other unbent metal. Assuming he performs welding correctly the vehicle should be just as good as before. I wouldn't hesitate to drive one of his repairs. On the other hand, there are probably a lot of shady repairmen who don't do it properly.

jib rahil ошибаетесь. Такие повреждения невозможно скрыть полностью. Думаю там достаточно открыть капот, и сразу будет видно что кузов варился.
не грейте голову, авто норм. Купят легко, не сомневайтесь. В раше любят корыта от бмв, правда не знаю, за что. Ремонт корректен, если маляры всё сделают правильно.

Моё мнение если машина разбита в тотал туда ей и дорога( на запчасти ) А если и продавать то только с полным описанием работ и по соответствующей цене но этого к сожалению не будет некогда !!!
707 707 По моему с такими машинами "разбита в тотал" нужно запретить все регистрационные действия. т.е. в ПТС вносится запись о том што тс восстановлено и владелец (тот што был на момент аварии) не имеет права продать машину, сдать её в аренду или осушествлять пассажироперевозки. In this part of Europe is very popular to buy car via IAAI/Copart and then transport it to Lithuania or Poland.
People should understand that the car safety will never be in it's original design. Riding these death traps is dangerous.
I agree but so many cars are very light damaged. For example with airbags intact or without frame damage. One year ago I bought Nissan Altima on Copart which was totaled (total loss). Total loss was only because the Insurance Group took away car after accident. Airbags, frame and suspension were ok, without any signs of damage, even though car was totaled..

Seriously. There wasn't a panel, reinforcement, or piece that wasn't tweaked in some way especially on the front end. Damn, that was some hit it took! Props to him, I probably wouldn't have fixed it, just looked for a less bent chassis. He is pretty meticulous in the world of body men. I've done my fair share and worked in a few shops. Some of these guys are crazy with ghetto repairs and a ton of filler. This guy does the work correctly and with the metal filler rod you don't even need spot putty from the looks of it. That repair will last a lifetime.
With a respect to his great job, this car should go direcly to scrapyard after the crash. All for safety important parts are just bent back and straightned an made looking nice. By such a heavily crashed cars should be the VIN deleted from registry, so nobody can repair it and sell

From what car you want replace VIN when the system will delete VIN after crash like this ? This system could be good.
You can buy vin and papers from imported car when it's going to be parted, or if its crashed or burned. Even in your country there are some crashed or burned cars which still have not-deleted vin. There's always some way to pass law.

This car is goona be good. It looks bad for regular customers like you, for peoples who dealing with cars it not a big problem. I know bodymans in LA who doing cars like this and this cars was sold with title branded as "salvage" or "rebuild". Different question, how much bodyguys can make it mm to mm with car-o-liner body specs.

This is pure madness. I'm wondering what remains of the original chassis and bodywork structure integrity after this so called fantastic and spectacular repair. God bless the people who will use this car in the future and having an accident again. I assume this thing will collapse like a house of cards. It's terrifying.

You would be suprised. It is not good as new but also not a death trap as most of you think. It depends on how it is welded. Artur overlaps parts. So cuts and welds are not at one place as is usual for cheap repair. That is death trap. I creates week spot If you do it correctly, than structural integrity is good.
welding make metal weak, that's why it is prohibited in aircraft construction for example
Welding does not make steel weak. it makes metal around a weld strong but fragile. Risk of cracking could be lowered with heat treatment. Aircraft is something else. You are using aluminium. Aluminium welds could strong just as 20% of original material. it is bad material for welding. Thats why are mostly used rivets. Even car industry use rivets for most of joints for aluminium body.
