I totally agree with you. To give you an idea, it would be like seeing a Trailer for Star Wars Episode V with Darth Vader telling Luke that he's his father before the movie came out. This scene would be more impactful if they just showed it in the movie.

She is also dressed completely different from the other "feral" humans leading many to believe that she is one of the astronauts from the missing spacecraft mentioned throughout the series. In the original film the protagonist was part of a space mission that got stuck in a time anomaly and they arrived back on earth long after the apes had taken over.

Really feels like a stealth remake of the 1968 film: - An orangutan filling the role of a scholar or a tribes’ wise “man” - One intelligent human with more “modern”clothes amongst all the humans that have regressed and are wearing simple clothing. - An extended scene of apes hunting a human(s) in a field of long grass - Apes being shocked into silence when they hear a human speak for the first time in however many centuries
To be fair the first trilogy was a loose remake based on "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and "Battle for the Planet of the Apes". Now this second trilogy will probably be a loose retelling of the original "Planet of the Apes" as well as it's sequel "Beneath the Planet of the Apes".

She must be an astronaut ( like Taylor was in the original movie) or something like that because modern clothing would not survive that long. I don't know what the exact timeline here is but the original movie, the ape society was 1900 plus years into the future. No way clothing designed to fit a human woman would almost 2000 years. This could be just a gender swapped version of the original planet of the Apes.

It's starting to make sense now. Mae is likely one of those astronauts who disappeared in the beginning. She's likely an engineer, therefore Proximus wants her so she can build weapons for him and he can expand his empire. I just wish they had omitted this until the movies premiere so we can be shocked as well.

This is a remake of the original, i way. When you pause it with the other humans she is the only one wearing normal clothes, she can speak, orangutan smart, her friend is obviously the chimpanzee. if you remember in Rise of the planet of the Apes, They talked about and showed a Rocket Take off Twice, it may seem like background noise in the movie but for them to show a random rocket launch twice? NO that was foreshadowing that this chick is the astronaut. 99% sure. edit: had to google it, it was called the Icarus Rocket, why bother talking about it and naming it?
