Woman Living on a Charming Tiny Houseboat in All 4 Seasons - Full Tour & How It Works
Kate has been living full-time on this super charming tiny houseboat since 2020. In this video, she shares a full tour of her home on the water, as well as her experience as a liveaboard in a marina, including some of the challenges, the monthly expenses, the incredible community, the renovations and maintenance, how the systems work, and more!

The house boat is approximately 550-600 square feet, and includes the main level and the loft bedroom. Kate's houseboat is connected to city water and hydro electricity, and she has a septic tank for waste. She also has a high-speed internet connection at the dock which allows her to work from home.
Living on a boat year-round in Canada is not easy because of the harsh winters so to prevent ice from forming around her home, Kate has several bubblers installed around the pontoons that prevent the water from freezing. She also has a heat trace line to prevent her water line from freezing and she heats her home with a mix of the wood stove and electric wall heaters.

I've been loving the idea of a house boat or house on water, but could you maybe do an episode on the potential risk of extreme weather's effect on house boats? Like if I'm buying one now is extreme weather and the rising sea level going to be a problem down the line? Great video as always.

Yah, I wouldn’t be surprised if this cost just as much as a typical suburban McMansion
A google search for marinas in Toronto will give you a good idea of costs. Usually, costs are per foot or slip size, whichever is more. I lived on a small sailboat for 12 years.

You know the old saying…if you have to ask you can’t afford it. I’m guessing it’s astronomical. I couldn’t afford it. Love my doublewide trailer on 10 acres in the high desert. 😂❤

I think the owners playing Russian Roulette with their lives by letting them roam freely wherever they want. What did she say when she opens up the door and they go wandering outside stay safe, I hope you survive!?!

I love how subjective the word "small" is... This houseboat is huge!! The kitchen and bathroom are either same size or larger than most of the Copenhagen/Oslo/Stockholm apartments :D Understanding subjectivity is very important...

I was thinking the same thing. My condo apartment, in Mississauga (abuts Toronto) is smaller than this houseboat. As you say, everything is relative. This home is lovely.

Lived on a Sundance housebarge (42 x 16, 2 br 1 ba) in NY for 8 years, until our firstborn was 3 and we had another one on the way. Loved the community and the fun of telling people about it. Do not miss the ramp from the parking lot down to the docks, particularly in the winter while pregnant. This is beautiful!

We lived in a very similar houseboat in Sausalito. It's so funny, Kate's even in a different country, different climate & everything she said is exactly the same as our experience. We have been there and the neighbours are close but they are respectful to give space and privacy. We were looking to live there but nothing was available when we looked. We found all the owners are friendly and kind that they allowed us to walk through. I wish we had better luck to have a home there.

That deck is absolutely amazing. Almost in the trees with lots of plants, the cat loves it as well. I have a garden with a tiny house in it and I would like to have a roof terrace on it but I still have to save some money for that project 😉 It looks very cosy with the outdoor patio set.

Beautiful little houseboat. I could 100% do this if it was on a lake with no one else around. I could never have any kind of house in that close proximity to other houses. I like people, I just don’t want to live with them. I’ve lived at least 60 of my nearly 80 years on acreage in the country or in the mountains. But that is an absolute darling of a houseboat, and your taste is impeccable.

Not an inexpensive lifestyle, but so charming. I used to have the exact same style table that folds out and seats a multitude! So convenient that it folds up so small. This is a beautiful small home!
