Estrogen Balance with DIM: bit.ly/2q2QO1m
In this video, I want to explain the deeper root cause of acne and the fastest way to get clear skin. Most people make the mistake of scrubbing their skin and damaging it. The skin layer is filled with millions of friendly microbes that protect the skin. Cleansing the skin sterilizes it, thus causing acne to come back due to the wrong bacteria. Taking antibiotics is not a long term solution because it develops resistant bacteria. Medications like Accutane can also have some serious side-effects.
Understanding the sebaceous gland is key. There are 5 things happening:
1. Inflammation
2. Plugged pores
3. Excess oil or sebum and bacteria
4. Enlarged sebaceous gland
5. Excess skin formation
The sebaceous gland is very sensitive to two sex hormones:
1. Androgens
Androgens increase the size of the gland and oil production. This can come from PCOS, which I believe is really excess insulin. Insulin resistance is the real cause. An increase in a certain enzyme can also turn testosterone into DHT (a powerful form of testosterone), which can cause high androgens.
The best thing to take may be:
• Vitamin A (virgin cod liver oil)
• Vitamin B5
• Zinc
2. Estrogen
Estrogen dominance (excess estrogen) can also cause hormonal acne, which is connected to a menstrual cycle. Typically the liver can not clear excess estrogen. This causes a build-up of acne. Certain medications can also cause this. The enzyme aromatase, which converts testosterone into DHT (a powerful form of testosterone) can be triggered in excess due to liver dysfunction. If this happens, add more cruciferous vegetables or, better yet, DIM, which is a concentrated form of cruciferous. Stinging nettle root is a great plant to add as well. I combined DIM with cruciferous vegetables and stinging nettle root in my product called Estrogen Balance with DIM as listed at the top of this description-check it out.

  • My daughter had a weird acne that covered her whole face. They were small little dots and an esthetician said it was not regular acne but more like a rash. However, the Dermatologist called it Acne and treated it with retinol and it caused her skin to really break out. Went to an other Dr and he took a urine test. There were 8 bacteria in her urine that stomach acid usually kills and you never see it. He said he stomach acid was too low and when he put her on a regimen of HCL and Pepsin her stomach acid killed the bacteria and he acne disappeared.

This mixes with other fluids in your stomach to make gastric juice. It is very acidic which helps denature proteins and kill bacteria. It also boosts the enzymatic activity.

    • Thank you for this information for everyone. To share my story briefly about acne, i am now struggling with acne for more than a month now for the first time. I have always had clear skin and usually i only get 1 or 2 pimples before my period but my acne this time didnt even start at that period. And as i invrstigated on this, i theorized that it might have been caused by my chronic stress recently (4 months of heavy duty at a project with overtime. I felt so stressed and acted bipolar over time. So I resigned from my job to heal myself. ) that might have destroyed the good bacteria in my gut microbiome (it wasnt only on my face btw, it was all over my body too. My arms were covered in red bumps. In retrospect, i might have been having an autoimmume response.) So i decided to take some yoghurt, and it honestly worked like a miracle. After eating 1/2 cup of plain yoghurt flavored with some cocoa powder and honey, i noticed my acne didnt feel inflamed anymore. Theyre still there but they dont hurt when you touvh them. So now i eat yoghurt regularly. My acne is still here but not as bad as prior to taking probiotics.

    • Just cutting out dairy is sometimes not enough. Especially if you're consuming sports products or any snack bars or breads/rolls etc - almost all of which has whey protein (from cow milk) or milk solids - even the healthiest smoothies and shakes can cause acne. You might be thinking you're having the healthiest diet but it depends how your body reacts to it. For instance, if you have high insulin or insulin resistance but dont know about it - an innocent morning smoothie with non-dairy milk and fruits can trigger bad acne because of fructose and sugar in that smoothie. So its really important what you put into your body. Or it could be toxicity of the food, or other hormonal imbalances. Also, it took me 3 months to see improvement in my skin after quitting all dairy products, so it's not an overnight thing. it takes long. Same if I eat something with cow milk - i will break out couple of days later. And I'm not milk intolerant and all of the allergy tests were negative, yet still I react on cows milk. Read Lara Briden's blog on milk and how it triggers acne.

  • VIDEO SUMMARY (note-taking; writing this for people who have difficulty focusing on long videos like this) A. Mistakes 1) Scrubbing your face with cleansers. DON'T SCRUB! 2) Antibiotics. It kills off the good bacteria along with the bad ones, creating evil strains for your skin. 3) Accutane. Too many side effects. Risky. TIP: Find out what's really causing the problem B. Sebaceous Glands Situation #1: Extra tissue being formed. A little flake. Dryness. Situation #2: Plugged pores. Situation #3: Inflammation. Situation #4: Unfriendly bacteria feeding off of the oil called sebum Situation #5: Large gland It's very highly sensitive to hormones, specifically Androgens and Estrogen. It's estrogen-related when: 1) During menstruation, it gets worse. The ovaries pumping out too much estrogen. C. Androgen One form: Testosterone Pumping out too much Androgen produces so much sebum and increases the size of the gland. Causes: puberty, PCOS, menopause Common symptoms for PCOS: hair loss (alopecia), acne, deeper voice What causes PCOS? - High levels of insulin (insulin resistance). - Too much of a certain enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT. One major reason for this is: Vitamin A deficiency. TIP: Take Vitamin A in the form of extraversion cod liver oil. Other Vitamins: 1) B5 - works well with Vitamin A; helps reduce acne, another remedy to solve the "certain enzyme" problem 2) Zinc - powerful for getting rid of acne D. Estrogen Causes: Liver dysfunction (not eliminating the bad estrogen), high blood pressure medications, antibiotics, alcohol, heartburn medications, anti-depressants REMEMBER: These situations may not be isolated from each other. You can have insulin resistance that's causing the liver dysfunction. SOLUTION: Start eating healthier! 1) Cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, kale, garden cress, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mustard plant and similar green leaf vegetables. 2) DIM, a super concentrated version of cruciferous vegetables. 3) Stinging nettle root, a plant.

How do you deal with it in any other way? Sometimes there are not many things left to do. I was really sceptical starting Roaccutane regarding every video, article and study I've read but I simply cannot keep going with every cream doctors suggest me without realising how sensitive my skin is (and I don't have any idea why the creams from the pharmacy not only don't work for me but made me a lot worse)

    • @@alice3548 I get it, because I experience the same reaction, and I am happy that it is working for you. The thing is I am vegan, and I don't use sugar for years now. I followed dermatologists I went to a couple, the only thing that has worked for me, that I haven't had a reaction to it, is Paula’s Choice liquid exfoliant. Even though I have super sensitive skin, it worked, and it's the one that I can put without causing me more sensitivity and irritation. My dermatologist, however, told me it's too harsh, and shouldn't use it. She prescribed me a cream from the pharmacy. It made my skin four times worse, and I am not even exaggerating, she was surprised, and she told me to try another one. It didn't make me much worse, but it didn't make me better either, and they both were for sensitive skin. Because I had a second bad experience, I am taking Roaccutane now. Sometimes things don't work, my skin has an irritation to everything from the pharmacy specifically, I started using my Paula’s Choice again, for a while, and it did some damage control, but I can't say after everything I read and everything that I saw that I regret starting the pill, simply because I cannot have a roller coaster experience with my skin for months, while I am seeing a dermatologist and especially when it makes me much worse. It is overwhelming, and all the pills have side effects so you should be careful, but if it gives me a fresh start I am here for it, simply because I cannot keep going to a dermatologist, and come back only worse, because of the products they prescribed me.

  • great video Dr.Berg. You are a blessing for all of us. After following your videos, I can now say that I am fully acne free. However, I do have one request for you; can you please recommend/guide us on what to do to reduce the appearance of scars left behind from Acne? I had a lot of acne as a kid and that acne got converted into a scar due to my own negligence.

I've been looking for an answer. Somehow Dr. Berg's video came on feed. I saw Antibiotics under 'Mistakes' and knew it! I've been sick and had taken so many antibiotics. Man.. but thank you Dr. Berg.
