The most criminal part about all of this is the fact that elected officials are allowed to take “donations”(AKA bribes!) and that they are allowed to invest in companies that they can directly influence the performance of(ie: arms companies, when they can vote to keep funding a war with tax money and those arms companies make more sales because of those wars being funded by tax dollars!)
