I Came back after three years its good that the nostalgia is still here
dude its a name change not a over-do of everything they ever were. Its for good reason too they changed the name, the creator of the name “Black Plasma Studios” who was also the main leader of the group, was exposed to be a child groomer. After being exposed he tried to run away from the internet, so he was evicted from black plasma, and someone else took over
Rest in peace Black Plasma Studios. Feels weird to say after so many years. I am proud of you for starting it all, D16.

As someone who's been watching this channel since 2015, I will miss the old name a lot...but that won't stop me from being excited for this new era. I am very excited for future projects you guys have planned for us!

Even though Song of War won't be continuing, we still can watch the fan made animations that were done by the other side animators of Squared Media. The story is basically the same but the animation styles are a bit different.
I would like to say a few words about it: I've been following Black Plasma Studios, Squared Media at this point, for a long time. I remember the good times and the bad ones and I was always impressed with the creativity and care you put into each of your animations. It's a shame that Sam and Thomas left this scene, they both deserve a big thank you for everything they've done. I think they will remain in the hearts of the whole community. Black Plasma Studios is not just any KZhead channel, it is a channel where sad and happy stories from the world of Minecraft come to life, which can excite the watchers and listeners and make them feel that they would rather be in the animation and stay there forever. I'm so glad that even though Sam and Thomas left, the rest of the team stayed and didn't give up on that amazing dream. I look forward to next animations and stories you create together in the future, either together or with other creators. While it's a sad moment to see the OG days leave the community, it's a beautiful start to something wonderful that I hope will be a success. You are a team that sticks together and has great ideas, be brave and please keep making your amazing animations. Personally, I will try to support your work as much as possible, although I don't have many ways to do it. And I'm sure the community will help you as much as they can. Together we will get to the top of mountins and we will stay there! It's a big change, but I'm excited to see what it brings. 😁

It's been 2 years since I've visited this channel. I started watching in 2017 and ended up loving you guys and your work. I'm gonna miss the old name and you guys like Arbiter, Sam, Thomas, Roa, and Derp brought us great memories ❤
This took me on an emotional roller coaster. I was so happy when Songs of War was mentioned, just to have my soul crushed again when learning they werent going to continue. I am sadder than when they first announced no season 2
Sad to see the old name go, but I’m very hopeful for the future of this channel and I’m sure any changes you decide to make will only make things better!

As someone who’s been a fan of the channel since before the Minecraft animations started, it’s a bitter sweet thing for a rebranding. But I understand that with new leadership comes a new direction for the channel too. I’m happy that the team will be creating more animations on a more consistent basis as well. I just hope that everyone is doing okay after the transition to a new era of the channel. It’s gonna take some time for me to get used to the new name but I’m excited for the future for this channel! 😄
It has been already a decade of memories for Black Plasma Studios. It only felt like yesterday. Wishing the best for the Squared team. (hopefully you guys bring back sow someday)
It's sad to see my Childhood fade away, so many things have changed. Ever since the cancellation of Songs Of War Season 2/3, I personally think that the Channel slowly died. Sure, the Steve and Alex series and some other animation was a banger but it seemed like after the cancellation I didn't think any of the animations were that much of a hype anymore. Songs Of War is still and forever will be one of the greatest animations I have watched, the Music and Scenery is too beautiful to be true. But anyway times have gone by fast and I wish you all the best for your upcoming development of this channel and community.

Update on 20th September 2023: On 3:33, We can see that there were a remaining 8 animation projects left and so far, currently 3 projects had already finished before the new upcoming animation movie in high school series at 3:36. Which is amazing! I am very excited for the upcoming animation series in high school. I hope it is related to songs of war

I have known your channel for a very long time... I was very pleased to watch it. you grew, grew. more and more. I also found a black plasma studio and most often I watch the video “Songs of War”. I really, really love this animation and every time I watch it, at some moments tears come, sometimes it’s funny, and sometimes I understand that this is your best animation for me. thank you for all these years of effort and work, thank you for everything, black plasma studio! I actually didn’t think that someone would leave your team and you would change the name of the channel. all this is big news for me. I'm sad that when you were called black plasma studio, I didn't appreciate it. Now I want to go back in time and tell myself: “watch them, watch them every day, while they are called that, before no one leaves their team, because in the future this will happen and you will miss that atmosphere. I want to say thank you guys again for everything! I know that you are trying very hard for us, and if you ever leave KZhead, I will go to your channel every day and see if there are new videos?
I'm shocked, I came back to watch Songs of war again, to see that Black Plasma studios is now Squared Media, I'm sad that some of the team left to continue solo, but honestly really excited to see how the future plays out for Squared Media, and glad that everything before is still up today. Black Plasma Studios was better, Squared Media sounds like and even looks like I just copied that from Google images + name found in wikipedia
True. Black Plasma Studios sounded more original, Squared Media sounds too much like Square Enix and sounds too corporate. At least Black Plasma Studios had the word "studio" in it and "Black plasma" sounds like something in a fantasy/sci-fi story.
It’s just a name, overreacting. The name Squared Media makes sense now that they don’t make just animations anymore which is why it’s called Media.

I never expected this to happen. In ways I am very sad (very small change can be hard for me lol) but I'm also very happy for everyone on the team! I want to thank you guys for all the work put into your animations, they are so fun and entertaining to watch and they deserve much more than given. Can't wait to see where all of this will go! Now I need to get used to the name lol.
Appreciate the optimism :D I think it will take a few people a bit to get used to the new name, especially cause of nostalgia for the old name. What we have planned should be awesome though to see unfold. Matt’s a great choice to take over, we’ve already seen a much more positive and productive work environment, so that’s a good start for us. Lot of cool stuff coming :)

UPDATE again on 27th April 2024: I know it is a bit outdated, but here we are. You know on 3:33, we can see that there were a remaining 8 animation projects left. As of this year, currently 4 projects had already finished, with 3 seemly new animation projects had also finished before the new upcoming animation movie in high school series at 3:36. We still haven't seen both the "Axolotl Battle" and "Sniffer" animation, nor have they finish the Agent Derp Animation. So, for the new high school series. I really do not know when or will it happen. I just do not want they will end up like the cancellation of Songs of War incident. Hope for the best in this new High School Series. Still so excited for that.
This is super cool! I was worried the channel was sorta slowing down and might shut down like so many other minecraft channels have. It's so nice to hear it's staying around for awhile. I'll miss BPS quite a bit, the old icon was sick, but things do need to change sometime or else nothing gets better! :D

I remember watching things like that old machinima of the blood blade being a scientific revolution... or Rise of The Spartans... those two are by far my most memorable, I was almost certain BPS would be dead. But here we are with some videos getting *Hundreds of MILLIONS* of views... good goin black plasma! Really looking forward to that minecraft animation tutorial. I wanna get started with animating myself and thought about doing a blender course but that would include so much more and seems a bit intimmidating as a whole. Maybe getting started with just minecraft in focus isn't a bad idea.
I know this isn't much but , if you may i'd like to get an update on what will you do with the series of (songs of war) . I am not bragging for you guys to continue it , but, That series has touched me and nothing stops me from ever missing that amazing series that you guys have created 💚

Hi, I'm from South Africa and the community has inspired me to work on my own minecraft animation series, I am also next year applying to the Animation School University of Cape Town, where I can further my animation experience so thank you so much for this comeback. For the past years I have been working on a series similar to SoW in terms of setting and using the channel's methods of animating and storytelling, love what yall do and excited for the future.

I didn’t realize the change until someone said that one of your vids was “Black Plasma’s” not what it is now. I will keep saying BPS because it’s what I’m used to and learned to love, but this is good to know.

As an old veteran of this channel, I'm sad to see the name of the channel go, back before I even had an email and KZhead account I was watching the old Halo 3 machinima's, that's how long I've been around this channel, and I want to just say, thank you for the long but amazing ride to this day, its been an absolute pleasure and seeing the channel grow and go to new places makes me smile, take it easy gentleman, I hope the best for all of you❤

Can still remember when this was a Halo 2/3/Reach Machinima and Game Night KZhead channel that had 25,000-50,000 subscribers. Don't really watch the content here anymore, mainly subscribed for history purposes, but it's fascinating/feels good to see this growth since the switch to Minecraft. Sad to see Arbiter leave though and the channel rebrand. Doesn't really feel like Black Plasma Studios anymore and more so other people taking it over for the subscriber count. Nothing lasts forever though and everyone moves on to new things. It's just nice to know the original crew has done well for themselves while pursuing other projects they're passionate about and that they'll be keeping their legacy alive by handing the keys over to someone else to keep it going.

Most of the crew although not OGs of course have been around for 3 years or more and we all seem to love our jobs, so I wouldn't say taking it over for the sub count. Striker and MichaeL are the only 2 "new" directors who have been here for about half a year. Matt I can vouch for being around since 2016, possibly earlier, so still some good roots to build from between all of us. But for sure it'll be interesting to see how things go. Damn this has certainly been a chapter all right. Hell thing that first brought me here way back when was the first release of "Rise of the Spartans" back when y'all primarily focused on halo machinima. Then the unsociables, and how Minecraft animations. Doesn't matter what you call yourselves these days, the thing that always stuck with me is that creative spark and heart that you don't see too much anymore that y'all had then and still do now. With everything changing as it is these days, please don't lose that will ya?
We are keeping the creative flame burning bright more than ever, we will do our best not to lose our sense of 'indie creator team' and bring content to the channel we are super passionate about :)

I've never posted a comment here, though I'm here since some years (I discovered Black Plasma Studios through a friend in 2019 and I'm subscribed since almost 3 years). But I think that I can't stay silent after this, because for me this rebrand will kill the channel. This won't be nice to hear I know, but I think that I'm free to give my opinion (btw feel free to tell me yours by replying to this comment 😄). The following development will be long, I'm sorry for that 😅 First of all, putting on the community channel the bloopers/BTS on the community channel is for me a bad idea, because the channel is less viewed so they'll loose money, which means that the animations will be harder to make, so it can lead to less releases. Then, changing the logo (that I find less good than the original one, but this is only subjective) and the name of the channel is source of incomprehension, so they can loose some fanbase and so viewers. The new name, let's talk about this. I have 2 things to say: 1: This is again subjective, but I think that we loose in style in terms of channel name: indeed, "Black Plasma" sounds more stylish for me than just "Squared". 2: The word "Media" makes no sense for me. Ok, they're posting media that is Minecraft animation, but... KZhead is made for people to post media. With the word "Studios", we had a clearer idea of what the channel consists of. Moreover, "Studios" sounds for me more professional than "Media" (again this last sentence is purely subjective). Finally, I seriously want talk about the thing that is annoying me the most in this rebrand: the answer to the question we all asked ourselves, which is "Why are they rebranding?"... I'm sorry but no one can deny that the question was quickly skipped. We only had around 20 seconds in the video reserved for the answer. Moreover, the answer is unclear, too much unclear, not to say that no answer was given. But I can easily figure one credible answer after seeing some elements, those are: - their boss + Sam and Thomas left Black Plasma Studios. - the new channel name is "Squared Media". - the new boss has for any nickname "MattSquared" (2 times "Squared", uh?). => By changing the original and "mythical" name of Black Plasma Studios for a name with a part of his own nickname in it, we can conclude that this is a purely individual, not to say selfish decision. And I'm sorry to say this, but this decision sullies the history of the work of passionate people who have offered us Minecraft animations for several years. So ok, this is cool to want to collaborate with other channels to make Minecraft animations (that could be good honestly). And ok, this is a good initiative to want to get closer to their community. But, this is obviously not with a rebrand that is made of ego valuation and strategic mistakes that this will work. THIS IS NOT TO LATE TO CATCH UP

@@RoANitrox Glad to hear that at least you're not mad about that erasure for a name that sounds more individual... But I'm still confused about the other points I've developed. Don't you think that moving some types of videos (bloopers and BTS) to the community channel, which is less popular and so less viewed by people, will make the releases harder? MattSquared mentionned that BPM is already loosing money the most of the time when a new animation is uploaded, so for me this can only make the problem worse 🤷
Hiya, a current director here. I'll see if I can give some insight into some of your questions. For the bloopers/BTS: Both of these content types are dependant on the animation, meaning an animation needs to be made for them to be created. However, they both are only a few days up to a weeks worth of work at most. Financially they do not perform anywhere near what animations do, so removing them won't effect the channel dramatically. Otherwise they do not effect the amount of animations that come out in a year. With that noted, one thing that Matt is actually trying to do is to remove any underperforming types of content off the channel so that when people go to check the channel, it's JUST animations. Animations perform well, and with videos on a channel performing consistently well, the hope is that plays into suggesting our content more. MrBeast is a great example of that. Monthly releases, with ONLY main videos on there that are built to explode. The bloopers going onto the community channel will of course sill earn money and be linked to, so gotta remember that, they're not disappearing. For the name, I understand that everyone will feel a bit different on this one, especially cause of nostalgia. But yes it is generic. However, that's part the point, to broaden potential for the future. Media was picked cause media incorporates all forms of, well... media. Opens up the company going into games, servers, etc. Studio is just defined as "a film or television production company" which is slightly limiting. But otherwise I understand you may dislike the name, that's fine, but it is what it is now. As for the final bit, it's definitely not an individual change. We all agreed and all felt it made sense (Squared, cubes, minecraft, etc), Sam and Thomas also both weighed in. Currently I'd comfortably say that Matt has been a way more involved and encouraging CEO. Working environment has been great since the change and I'd argue that's a massive win for us, haha. There's both a lot of great ideas and great quality coming from the projects currently in the works. As for why they left, you may need to research that up yourself as that's more serious and potentially sensitive for some of them, but the info is out there if you feel the need to know. Hope some of this helps. We're moving on either way, whether you decide to follow is up to you. Take care Just a quick mention on your reply to Nitrox. The channel itself is not losing money. He just brought up an example of an underperforming video and how we are wanting to strive back with renewed passion and intent.

I only saw views for a short term but you showed me that further your strategy could work by aiming the video referencing by release on the main channel only the videos that are working the best. Hope for you this will work 🤞 For the name I think we don't have the same vision but as I said, my vision is only subjective and I think this is the case of you and the rest of the staff. I will always remember Black Plasma Studios but I think that over the time I'll get used to it. Squared Media is in fact not a bad name, just the fact that I see "Squared" in the new channel name and in the new CEO's nickname I'm a bit confused. Fortunately this is a word that works because Minecraft is made of cubes 😌, but yeah it still looks a bit selfish for me, I think that in the staff I would feel like this. @@Amtiawhy appreciate the comment, thanks for being open minded. While I haven’t talked to everyone who’s worked for us, I really doubt that anyone thinks it was selfish to name it Squared related. Like I’ve said, the work environment with the new changes has been great, so lotta positives going forward and that’s the main thing we’d want to keep up. Matt himself definitely isn’t selfish, he’s been very understanding and helpful over the past few months in most areas, so I can vouch for him. Otherwise, hopefully we let our work do the talking instead of just plain words, so looking forward to seeing what people think of things down the line as everything starts to release or be revealed.
