I think they need to get another goalie, I think Woll would be a good fit for starting and Dennis Hilldebey as backup but in case that doesn't work out or Woll for some reason isn't ready for starting goalie they should get another goalie during free agency. PS: I don't see Samsonov coming back, the Leafs should let him go tbh

This was great. 3 different GMs and a multitude of coaches have taken the heat for Shanahan's decisions over the last 10 years. They have answered all of the questions day in and day out. They have lost their jobs. The fact that Shanahan is still there is shocking.

But by your logic, no one should have been fired to this point. It was hard for all of the coaches and GMs who work/have worked for Shanahan. They all have been held accountable, either by losing their jobs or by speaking to the media daily.

My biggest takeaway from that press conference is they are saying the right things, whether they do them or not? Who the hell knows. At this point I’m just tired of the excuses, I want to see change. Real change, not just lipstick on the pig.

In all honesty, most millionaires are where they are because of hard work, blood, sweat and tears. I've seen very little of it from people sitting at home on welfare complaining that they aren't rich, popular or powerful. There are certainly some millionaires out there that are pathetic, but most of them are on Instagram or onlyfans and are simply milking a market that is willingly throwing money at them. Don't paint with too wide a brush.

What I have learned of my time wirkung in Marketing IS... Never trust anything someone of Marketing IS saying 😅🤷🏻♂️ The decision to keep Shanny IS mindblowing to me. IT Shows you, in my opinion it is Not about Winning... The sentence about "WE are Not here to sell tickets ..." Is just smart marketing
I'm just really unsure of what the point of having a GM is if Shanahan is only going to greenlight moves he wants. Even when Dubas (who everyone apparently hates now) wanted to move off the core, Shanahan not only prevented that but actively worked against it and fired him. When Keefe was wanting different pieces to build a different toolset for utilizing different systems, he was given more of the same. Both Dubas and Keefe had to go, but let's not act like they were getting the moves they were asking for. Shanahan has to go. Don't replace him. Let Treliving go wild and a new coach force a new culture onto this team unimpeded by an overseer. Pelley can make sure the numbers make sense.
The Staff and Graph podcast talked about how Dubas couldn't get in touch with Shanahan during trade season, leading to the Leafs losing opportunities to make trades. The more we talk about this, the more upset I am that everyone else is a scapegoat for the Shanaplan. The press conference hanging Dubas out to dry was unnecessary and feels particularly egregious the more we learn.
I dunno why Dubas gets all the hate. His style didn't work out for Toronto, but how much of that was his moves and how much of that was management behind the curtains? I'm not sure we will ever get the full truth of it until all parties involved are out of the mgmt sphere.

Lets not pretend he didnt openly muse about quitting for the sake of his family, lets not also not forget he said it was Toronto or nowhere and then days later moves to Pittsburgh. He had that gig in his back pocket and made a power play for Shanahans job and Shanny said nah. He was the author of his own demise, and the fact that Shanahan should have been canned at the same doesn't make Dubas any less culpable for his own firing. MLSE should have cleaned house.

I just wanted to thank you for giving shelter to so many hockey fans out there. I yell and swear illogically at the TV like any other infuriated hockey fan, but my girlfriend says that at least I don't get as worked up as that guy from Toronto. 🤣 You may not know it but you're helping a lot of hockey fans manage their outrage at their teams and officiating, and how their non-hockey fan girlfriends and wives regard them.

I recall several identical news conferences from the Maple Leafs in 1984, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1999, 2004 when I stopped being a Leafs fan. 2024 news conference - blah blah blah.

The Bruins couldn't Move Coyle because who in the world want to pay 5.5 million for a fourth line center. Same goes for Marner, what team would be stupid enough to pay someone 11 million for two 30 goal seasons. The Leafs are stuck with him for the life of his contract, unless they buy him out. The major problem the Leasf have is 52% of their salary cap it tied up in 4 players. So it the 4 players do not produce, there is no supporting cast to back them up.

I'm surprised Shanahan is still employed there. It's been 10+ years. His fingerprints are all over this team. His influence has allowed this culture to continue. If he isn't fired, then the Leafs will not move on past the "failures" label that has been put on them, by their own actions.

If Berube has any Common Sense he’ll stay far away from the Leafs organization. The Leafs are as disfunctional a team as you can possibly get in hockey thinking they can win a Stanley Cup with a team built like an NBA roster with a core 4 taking up almost half of the salary cap. No coach, not even one as good at motivating and getting the best out of his players as Berube could win with a team constructed this poorly. I say it every year that the Leafs roster is flawed in design, yet the Leafs are content beating this dead horse into the ground year in and year out with their core 4.

@@ronmatthews2164 It’s not even the players fault that their performance is worse in the playoffs since they are playing against the most elite teams that can designate their top lines often as shutdown lines and still have enough depth to score goals whereas the Leafs don’t have that luxury due to having so much of their cap tied up in just a few players. Everything wrong with the Leafs is being caused by their bloated contracts to their top players and everything can be fixed if the Leafs ever want to by eliminating some of that cap weight to add more depth to their roster.

I had someone point out to me recently that Shanahan probably didn’t fire both Dubas and Keefe last season to keep a scapegoat on hand to buy himself some time.
Good point, but it's the season they finally made the 2nd round, I think most fans were expecting a run back. The contracts, though, were surprising.

Leafs window will close next year but reopen in 2 years. Marner and Tavares will come off the books . Easton Cowan will come up. Treliving will build a strong big d line and get a more physical team.

Willy’s pace was effectively unchanged after the contract, only really dipping when he was moved to a limited third line role towards the end of the season. Mitch knows he isn’t getting extended here - he can facilitate a trade to a market he wants + sign his $12-$13M extension for seven years this summer. Mitigates any risk of going into a contract year without a deal… he’s not going to go through this season without a contract and risk a massive injury or an off season lmaoooo.
I hope the Leafs can extend Domi because I think he deserves it; he plays with a lot of heart on a team that simply lacks it. I also hope they can keep Bertuzzi, he started slow but he gathered steam as the season went along and he's a battler. We need players like that a lot more than we do any of the 'stars' that vanish as soon as the playoffs begin.
The leafs don't lack the talent or skill. They lack in the intangibles, grinding out the boards to win a puck battle, blocking shots, make players scared to gain the blue line, battle in front of the net. If you're soft in all those areas, the other teams don't hesitate, flinch, or even get worn down, it's high end no contact beer league hockey. Good luck winning a cup with that level of Charmin softness.

he LEafs do not have to get VALUE back for Marner in a trade .The VALUE is the Cap space that they gain ( a couple of " cant miss" defence prospects and a 1st round pick would do it ) .As long as we waives and you get his cap hit off the books that is the name of the game .The UFA pool this summer is full of guys that have been absolute BEASTS in the playoffs recently ( Montour ,Marchesault,Stamkos ,Reinhart and Toffoli just to name a few ) One or more of these guys on the Leafs could carry them over the playoff hump

99 and 02 had conference final runs and a bunch of fun playoff experiences from 99-04 until the lockout. Even the Muskoka 5 did better than the par 4. shanny to get an extension for a 2nd round expectation is so lackluster and destined for at best... at best 1 cup run with the best goal scorer of our generation who's a selkencandidate. We're forever fucked if that's the best we can do, with all this $ and culture.

Id love if Treliving pulled this one out: Marner to Nasville (if he agrees to, he might, its a promising organization with at least a few good prospects like Askarov) in exchange for Juuse Saros and Dante Fabbro. I think the problem of scoring in the playoffs comes most notably down to coching, but this could fix the blue line and the issues in net. (Saros and Marner are both entering their last year of contract next season which imo makes this trade more doable for both teams)
Steve Yzerman would pull that out. Treiliving will more likely get fleeced like he was in Calgary. A mediocre GM with nothing to show for.

I knew Shanahan was sticking around when the 1st round pick wasn’t used at the trade deadline.
Shanahan did a decent job tanking, hiring Lou, and bringing in Babcock (before he went bonkers). It went off the rails when he fired Lou to promote Kyle. Kyle and Babcock were never on the same page, and then Kyle went and got Tavares. I love Tavares but they should have targeted a defenseman or 2. Tavares is a great hockey player, but just didn't gell on this team. Also didn't help that Lou punted Verhaeghe who developed into the greatest all-around hockey player. IMO a better coach will usher in a more defensive style of play that wins. Somehow Toronto will have to get a better defenseman.

You know why? Cause MLSE's goal is NOT to have the Leafs win a cup, it's to make money. They look at financial reports and see that the Leafs make a fuck ton of money, and that the ''Core Four'' generates fuck ton of it aswell. They optimize for profitabilty, not to win a championship. That's my take anyways

If the leafs somehow get to rd 3 or finals, then next year exit rd one again, they will see the team lost money from prior year, and then probably try to trade matthews. Until they fire shanny, this is how i feel MLSE runs things. It might be a curse to go deep in the playoffs, leafs need to be run by a different organization. Good luck with that.
