can i ask something? i know some people are more well-off than others, but how does one even pay for flight training? i’ve spoken to a few flight schools in the past couple weeks and even a few lessons are completely unattainable for me
@@yammmit Unfortunately it's very expensive. Depending on how many hours it takes to get to your checkride, it can be $20,000 or more to get a PPL. You can finance it just make sure you know what that means for budgeting.

@@yammmit Commercial training is a lot more expensive than private, but there are companies that will pay for your training in exchange for you agreeing to work for them for X number of years. Might be worth it to contact airlines and charter companies to see if anything like that is available. In addition, since flight school is, after all, a _school,_ there are scholarships available.
@@yammmitFrom everything I’ve read and seen, the commercial airline industry is desperate for pilots. I have to believe this will open up some creative ways to get the necessary training. Perhaps even student loans similar to those available for colleges are an option or might become so in the not too distant future. I’m a retired baby boomer and know that many of the commercial pilots of my generation got their training by joining the military. However, unless something has changed, you need a 4-year degree to fly in the Air Force, Navy, and Marines. I’m not sure about the Army’s requirement for rotor aircraft. If you really want to do this, make it an unshakable goal and start researching. I always wanted to be a pilot but unfortunately my nearsightedness disqualified me from military or commercial acceptance, as there was no such thing as laser eye surgery way back then. Lol. You've been quite the ambassador for Daher-Socatta aviation products obviously, but also for Southern Florida and in particular, Opa Locka, Fort Lauderdale Executive and Pompano Airpark and the surrounding communities that you've flown over. Many of the viewers knew little about the TBM product line or 850, but now they certainly do. Same thing with the airfields and FBOs your job took you to. We are all indebted to you for the insights you've shared over the last 10 years. Your earnestness, candor and no-nonsense attitude and narratives are much appreciated. You've also exposed us to a number of interesting people over the years. There are many video bloggers on this medium that use aviation as their platform for broadcasting and letting the viewer into an aspect of their private lives......know that many of us are extremely appreciative of the time, effort, and dedication associated with your videos and with letting us share a bit of your life experiences. I don’t usually comment on videos, but I wanted to give you a special thanks. I used to watch your videos at work during lunch, or I’d have one playing in a window on my secondary monitor if I had some CAD work to do (don’t know why exactly, but I found that I can still concentrate reasonably well on design work while listening to classical music or aviation vlogs... everything else is a big distraction.) I think It was the ones where you were flying to the Caribbean that really got the hooks in me, so I finally decided to stop daydreaming about it, go down to the local airport and earn my pilots license. I was 58 at the time and I remember my wife giving me the, “I want to support you, but are sure this is a good idea?” look ; ) I’m not going to lie, it was harder than I thought it would be, and I didn’t think It was going to be easy. Your videos gave me confidence, and inspiration to keep going. In particular your flight to some small island and landing in a super strong, gusty crosswind commenting that it was nothing for the local pilots who flew down there all the time. I’m sixty now, working on my instrument rating, have made some awesome new friends through a flightclub I joined (we fly an old piper warrior so no TBMs for now ; ) Without your inspiration at just the right time I’d still just be daydreaming about it, or worse, just given up on the dream and let it die with all my other high minded plans. Thanks Steve, Keep the blue side up.

What a crazy thing to think about Steve. I first remember watching your videos when I was in flight training back in 2017, and you, alongside with the likes of Flight Chops and others helped motivate me to become a better student and professional pilot. I thought you would be happy to hear that I have now been working as a flight instructor for four years, and gone up through the ranks to the highest instructor grade here in Australia, and recently completed my multi engine rating. What a rewarding career it has been so far, and I am forever thankful for your videos and insights. I can't wait to see whats next for the both of us! Best wishes mate.

I actually sat down with my mom and watched this video with her and kind of explained to her your career and what you've been doing for so long. This is all part of the journey brother! Ive been in your shoes 5 times now in 22 years. Everytime it happened, I stressed over the unknown of what might happen. The last two times, I took comfort from my fellow Avgeeks and thought of the advice id give any of them.. -keep your head up because all things happen for a reason and it always works out. Watching you made me feel like I was back in the cockpit with my dad, the way you talk to us as you run through your checklists and start her up. Your content with 851TB is still my favorite and it breaks my heart that both you and us have to say goodbye to such a special bird such as 851TB. Hang in there Sunshine! After 40 years in aviation, you just put another hat on and keep going! Aviation, companies always going broke, getting bought out, mergers, etc! There are no guarantee's! My retired buddy of mine was the ONLY person I have ever known to be with the same company his entire career! You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than to stay with one company your entire career! You will do fine, this is just a bump in the road! I've watched your channel because I've always dreamed of winning the Lottery, first thing I would buy is a brand new TBM and their newest model! So you were living my dream! Be grateful for the experience!

I’m a flying tragic, Steve. I grew up always wanting to be a pilot here in Australia, but finances and what ended up being my career as a science teacher for 46 years precluded all of that. I should have pursued my dream but I didn’t. Now at age seventy, your videos in particular have given me a window into what it is like to fly a modern aircraft. I particularly love your commentary on every aspect of what you are doing and I look forward expectantly to the next episode in your life. Great work my friend.
Demand for pilots now is high, but not when I was flying. I'm 81 and lived on poverty wages while flying ME engine Charter. Fortunately, I lost my medical and was forced into a paying job. Fun while it lasted though. Didn't mind all that much being poor. Still, I think someone was looking after me. Got married and raised two beautiful and successful daughters.
I'd like to apply to this geezer's consortium! Sixty seven here, solo'd in '79 and then my little local uncontrolled strip closed. Bummer! I even took a ground school at a bonafide airport but the hourly cost was much more expensive than I could afford as a working 20-year-old. Steve and a couple of the other fantastic You Tube Top Guns have been an absolute gift - Vicarious Blue Yonder! Thank you, Steve, and like everybody, I'm eager to learn what's next!
I hear you. I'm 70, did some flying in the late '70's. But was was never in the financial position to get my private pilots license. Take care!

Sir, reading your situation is an inspiration to me because my situation is similar. I've wanted to fly since I was a tike and just couldn't ever afford it and couldn't borrow the money to do it. I also let time get away but fortunately I am now near 40 and i'm going to pursue this lifelong dream. Sometimes I feel too old to be having a midlife change in career particularly where I have been fairly successful in what I was doing. You should at least go fly for fun if you can find a way to make that happen it would be great!

Change is never easy; the emotion is your voice relays the sadness of leaving a trusted (well, mostly) friend behind. You two have had quite the run! But onward and (literally) upward we go. Looking forward to the next chapter and the adventures that await.
Huge fan of your channel. A word of encouragement. In 1998 I unexpectedly lost my job. It took a minute to get my footing but when I did, it led to the most satisfying career move of my life--work that I still do today. I would NEVER be doing what I'm doing now if one of the worst days of my life had not happened. Very best wishes.

I've been out of aviation for many years, but I took my flight lessons out of Signature at St Pete Clw back in the days when Travolta was tooling around in his Dassault Falcon 900. I've been loving this channel for a number of years now because of how it takes me back to so many of the familiar airports you cover and the great production quality of the videos you post. The visuals, the audio, especially the music, all first rate. The conversations you have with the audience from the cockpit remind me a lot of the temperament and the competence I saw in my first flight instructor back in those days. Thanks for the memories and I'm excited for what's next. Take a bow, my man. Just awesome. Onward and upward!

Great to see you again, Steveo. You have been an inspiration to many flight enthusiast, including me. Even though I'm not allowed to work towards a pilot license, due to severe side--effects from a rare form of spinal cord cancer, I can at least live the dream vicariously through great pilots like yourself. Never give up hope. Never give up the dream! I can't imagine how hard it is to leave 851TB behind. That's like leaving a great dear friend! But, I can't wait to see your next flying adventure. I just posted this on Max’s latest video, but I give props to both you, Max and Premier1D for helping me with my flying anxiety. I’d get near panic attacks for years upon take off but I’ve learned so much from you 3 that knowledge of what’s going on during the entire flight helps ease my mind and no longer have the anxiety I used to the. My last flight in June was a no big deal. So for this I thank you. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

As a Captain at a major, I can say easily you’re N815TB was my N1114N….! it’s been 25 years since I’ve flown that airplane but watching your emotions talking about that airplane brought that tail number back to me… I flew freight in that airplane for the better part of two years. 😊 Cheers friend and good luck on your new adventures 😊. Steveo, I started watching your channel about a year and a half ago when I started becoming interested in a mid-life career change to becoming a pilot. I started my training earlier in the year and I'm loving it! Good luck with this new chapter.
