JANE AUSTEN ROAD TRIP (PART 1)// Hello lovely people, We're so excited to walk in the shoes of Jane Austen today and share a little Jane Austen road trip in Hampshire with you. We visit places like Steventon where she was born and grew up. Her father was rector at St. Nicholas church and we were so lucky that the church was open! It's such a beautiful place!
After that we visited Deane where her father was rector at All Saints Church and where you will find Deane House, a beautiful country house where Jane visited often to see her friends, the Harwoods.
We will also share the tiny village of Ashe where the Austens became friends with the Lefroy family who moved into the rectory there. It was Madam Lefroy who inspired Jane to write.
The highlight is our visit to Chawton House where her brother Edward lived and where Jane would go whenever he was there. She lived at Chawton Cottage with her mother and sister Cassandra. Chawton Cottage was her final home and here she wrote 6 of her wonderful novels, the exquisite 'Pride & Prejudice' being one of them.
We hope you will like this video and we can't wait to go on a second Jane Austen road trip to film part 2. Have a lovely weekend. Kirsten & Joerg

  • PS Many years ago I possessed a lightweight white summer dress that I delighted in swirling, just as seen here. This brought back lovely summer memories. Young women who have never experienced such a dress can’t imagine the enjoyment such a thing can bring. Simple joys.

  • Yesterday, the KZhead algorithm recommended this video to me and ever since I've been binge-watching your videos from the last years. I just wanted to come back here and tell you how much I adore your channel. As a German who studied English Literature at university, it is just wonderful to see you explore the countryside, talk about the differences between cultures and give us viewers a glimpse into life as an ex-pat in the UK. Please keep up the good work! (And, hoping to not be rude: It's also really inspiring to see both of you pursuing your dreams even though society tends to make us believe that we have to have everything figured out in our Twenties.) You've definitely found yourself a long term viewer! Sending loads of love across the English Channel! Liz

  • I live two minutes away from the house where Jane Austen spent her final days, in Winchester. Sadly it's not open to the public, it's owned by Winchester College and used as a residence for staff, but it does have a plaque. I really hope you both come and visit the cathedral, it's lovely to see my neighbourhood through your eyes :) Living somewhere for a long time you forget how beautiful it is, I've been to all these villages or passed through them, but watching your videos really reminds me to appreciate my home county more :)

  • What a Friday treat! I am such an Austen fan and loved tagging along with you guys. I LOVE old churches. Hardly a comparison but years ago when my kids were small I worked as a secretary at an Episcopal Church and I was obsessed with the beautiful old building, the gardens, the kneelers, the pipe organ, etc. I would wander through the graveyard (is that creepy?). How wonderful to be in such a historical church. I really needed this after a mandatory overtime work week. LOVED the skirt twirls! Thanks for sharing! Much love to you both! ❤️❤️

Although it is beautiful , it does lack the charm of the English country side with its churches ,manor houses ,tea rooms ,country lanes , green fields ,in fact l really miss all of it . • France is very beautiful also & there's no doubt about this. It has it's own special charm & it's own unique beauty, which Great Britain does not have in the "exact same" manner. I remember being in Paris in the late 90's & the stunning architecture everywhere & perfect symmetry, the amount of romantic & pretty wee Cafe's was so wonderful. The city is "not" as haphazard as London architecturally. Paris, many beautiful bakeries abound, filled with great produce too. The bread & Eclairs, 2nd to none. The gorgeous Cafe's, they were everywhere & today, so many have been closed, or have been taken over by foreign business owners. Paris was one of the most incredible European cities, but these days, as awesome as it still is, it's lost a wee bit of it's amazing charm, although the amazing Parisian architecture will never lose it's appeal or beauty. Notre Dame Cathedral (prior to the catastrophic fire) & Sainte-Chapelle, totally jaw droppingly beautiful! Even with all it's crazy quirks, Paris is still very beautiful though. There are many lovely parks around & many lovely walks to be had, passing by countless amazing historic spots, all worthy of a photo snap. Even the doors around Paris are praise worthy & are great historic masterpieces. We just have to open our eyes & look carefully @ all the amazing details abound. Many knock France & Paris specifically & i always say, it's most probably bec of human jealousy. All the negative comments, it's not true. In fact, we were in London in 2018 & some parts of London these days, are still very dirty & it's unfort growing dirtier. Your country has so many natural attractions, the most stunning Chateaus, which the UK doesn't have. Britain has wonderful castles, but they're not all on the same level as France's very best Chateaus. Palace of Versailles is super incredible, both the palace & the entire manicured grounds. You have many incredible historic farm houses, beautiful countryside & you afford the insanely stunning alps. Great Britain does not have the Alps. You are comparing chalk & cheese really, bec both countries are beautiful in & of their own right. To compare is of no use, but we can say that both countries have their advantages/disadvantages. France to many, is one of their favourite countries & Paris, to this day, is still the world's most visited city. Unfort, bec of Covid-19, global travel has been seriously halted. If you are French, then you must be very proud of your country, as most, if not all French people are.

  • That telephone box! Such a lovely idea. I do love history and I love it when people reinvent ways to use historical things that are no longer required for their intended purpose rather than just discarding them. Your narrative is so gentle...such a delightful couple.

    • The telephone box is opposite the driveway of the house once owned by a client of mine. Quintains. It dates back to the 17thC.
