EVERY Country The Simpsons Visited & Offended - FULL BREAKDOWN
Big thank you to @phantomstrider and @JJMcCullough for joining me to chat about how The Simpsons represented their home countries. 🌎
In this video I break down every country The Simpsons have visited - what countries banned their episode, who loved theirs and how they represented the countries' people and culture. This was a super fun video to make, so if you'd like to see me break down every state Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson have visited in the USA, let me know in the comments!

Thanks for inviting me on the show, Lydia! It was such a memory trip looking back at all the countries Simpsons have visited over the years.
Hi phantom!
I live in Australia too
Hi
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I wasn't expecting you to be in the video or comments. What a nice surprise
As an Australian, I've never met anyone who didn't like the episode! It's a classic. It's one of my favourite episodes! My kids and I always quote it and of course I call dollars; dollarydoos 😁
If I'm ever given the privilege to interact with Ozzie currency, you bet your Bendigoan Cube I'll call it "dollarydoos"!~
@@jansenart0 Sounds great mate!
That's a bloody outrage that is! I'm taking this all the way to the Proime Ministah
I'm surprised that they haven’t made a whole episode in Mexico, the dub made here is really popular, especially in the 2000s it has huge, still is but not as much as then
the dub is popular in every country
Is it weird that I like watching these while playing the Simpsons hit and run or nickelodeon kart racers?
No. It's expected and accepted.
No
Perfectly normal. It's aided by the fact that Lydia's voice is pleasant when added to most soundscapes. All of her videos are in the spirit of good fun, too, so you're not gonna ruin your good time. She and PhantomStrider are probably the best KZheadrs to watch alongside other activities because of their pleasantness and quality content.
That honestly sounds like such a vibe
Nick Kart Racers is a decent karting game
Kudos for saying Tanzania, and not generalising Africa like it's a county 👍
You mean New Zanzibar? Or should I say, Pepsi Presents New Zanzibar?
But then playing the South African anthem during the Tanzania part lol. Does Tanzania not have an anthem or does it just not matter because it's Africa right? 😒
country
@@babyramses5066exactly!
Or should you say… *Kodos* ?
One country you forgot to mention was Micronesia, when Homer was running away from PBS, he got sent there as a missionary. I was hoping to hear what your take was going to be on that.
My Favorite was when they visited Austraila I wish we Americans had a leader like Prime Minister Andy. Thanks Lydia, Phantom Strider and JJ for sharing your Homelands with us.
Ye as an Aussie some of it is actually funny that episode it’s just slightly annoying. My least fav part tho is the beating I only know 1 person that gets beatings at home
My home country of Northern Ireland was seen in the same episode where the Simpsons visited Ireland. But it was only a short scene of Marge, Lisa, Bart & Maggie at the famous hexagonal basalt columns of the Giant’s Causeway.
Was about to comment the exact same, I remember my parents laughing at the fact that while Homer is in a pub in Dublin, and then Marge suddenly takes the kids to the Giant's Causeway and back in two seconds
@@Yamezzzz I think I remember the punchline for Marge and the kids' subplot was that Ireland had less material for the writers to riff on compared to all the other countries (in terms of famous landmarks, culture, or stereotypes).
Fellow Brit here, and I liked the London episode. I liked it when Marge thought that every taxi 🚕 had its own butler 😂 I also liked the Australia 🇦🇺 episode "dollarydoos" and "chazzwozzers" when Marge said they call them bullfrogs, both made me laugh 😂
As an Aussie I just laughed at it. It's a bit of fun and The Simpsons is based on stereotypes. I can confirm no one drinks Fosters beer and kangaroos aren't transport for people haha 😂. Great video, Lydia! ❤
Yeah I heard that Aussie's dont drink Fosters often. It's more popular in the UK
@@TheSimpsonsTheory fosters beer is only sold in Melbourne. So you won't find it anywhere else in Australia 🙈
Although the politicians in the show do more than our actual politicians
@@23heltar you have a good point
Us Aussies love the Australian episode 😂
I'm surprised they didnt go to Germany yet. Considering the amount of jokes about German people. Been waiting for it! I mean, the country of the best Beers and Homer? That would be a blast for Homer!
Tho one time Homer heard about Germany and just imagined cheesechocolatebeer land, LMAO
The Germans came to them!
@@alexeidarling Guess the best we get is Uter but Germans don't count Bavarians as Germans. And in the German Version Uter is actually Swiss lol
@@ReeN1995 In one episode the Germans came to them (Burns Verkaufen Der Kraftwerk). In another episode Homer was the blob and has eaten some Germans. There is not only Uter.
Bonus of the "die bart die" gag
As an Australian the Australian ep is hilarious! especially the part where Homer asks for a giant beer
You should do a video about all the states the Simpsons have visited or made reference to as not being the state they live in. Then you could possibly narrow it down and figure out what state they do live in.
It's Springfield Oregon
@@Chiefs_fanMichaelDiedrich Most likely that’s where the name came from, but canonically the location of Springfield isn’t known.
Just got your book as a birthday present im looking forward to reading it. The quality is amazing
That’s so nice! I really hope you enjoy it
I've always enjoyed how Australians seem completely immune to this effect. Every Australian I've met (only a handful, admittedly) has been able to quote the Simpsons as well as I can, and absolutely LOVES the Australia episode. Seems like they've got a great sense of humor.
As an Australian, I definitely still say dollarydoos whenever talking about money. I love the Australia episode, it's a classic! 🙃 🙃 🙃
@@TrainWreckYT even Australian cartoons reference dollary doos (Bluey)
I'll never understand the people mad about it because the Simpsons itself is a show making fun of America. To some people it's okay to make fun of America but not their country. Double standards. I mean me personally I find it hilarious when I see a well written texas or America parody even if it's not accurate. As long as it feels like everyone else is getting equal treatment
@@crazymusicchickWhats ya favorite colour, blue? What's ya favorite hobby, Sport?
Thanks for the video! I'm from Finland. Tho they haven't visited here in the show, they have couple of times confused Finland with Sweden.
As a Brazilian, I'm most offended by the Geography mistakes (Rio is VERY far away from the Amazon, and the animation looked more like Pantanal than Amazon) than the stereotypes
I guess the Simpsons sometimes frustrate viewers like us because it gives an impression that lots of people are just plain rude to nice guys but at least not every Simpson frustrates me because there are always some good jokes especially the movie references.
24:59 I don't think Blame it on Lisa was banned for this much time in Brazil, apparently it aired in cable tv in December 8, 2002 (I don't know if it was the normal delay at the time) and in Globo, the biggest network tv in Brazil, in July 5, 2003. Also, the line about Brazil in "The Wife Aquatic" was changed in the Brazilian dub.
Wow this is an amazing video Lydia... I managed to cook breakfast wash my dishes clean my room wake and bake and now off to walk my dog and I'm barely on the halfway mark. Kinda nostalgic watching these classic clips so many memories that fade around the Simpsons.. I still to this day catch myself quoting certain classic dank episodes.. keep doing your thing my love 💋
You put a video out on my birthday. You guys are too much, thank you, lol. This video was great, and it also shows how they have so much money to travel everywhere?
Happy birthday Daniel 🥳🎈 I'm guessing Homer gets a trickle of money through his ownership of Denver Broncos haha
I was just thinking about this. Thx❤
To be fair to China, I can kind of understand why they'd take offence to Homer strangling the baby panda, it did seem much more hostile to Chinese culture than the way they wrote about Irish/British/Aussie culture which seemed more like a friendly jab.
i really enjoy all the little references to Canada throughout the shows entire run 😂
The whole drama with Apu is the biggest case of "don't speak for a minority, if you're in the majority" because in truth, most Indians loved the Simpson's and they loved Apu. All the accusations of Apu being offensive are from Americans, not Indians. (And before any of you guys say you're Indian and you find him offensive, five bucks says you live in America and spent most of your life there)
Well said!
Most Indians loved Apu? 😂 I have never met an Indian that loved Apu. I don't think they find him offensive persay, just a cheap stereotype
23:44 as far as i know here in brazil the episode is pretty loved and i watched as a kid. also when lisa mentions brazil as the worst place she visited in the brazilian voice acting that line was replaced with "lisa:this is the worst place i visited bart:you really think so? lisa:if i say so is because i think so"
Yeah I remember people liking it
Fun fact, since we here in Italy we don't have any English (sterotypical/cartoony) accents (like Scottish and Irish, we just have the standard English), we resorted to give to characters like Willy and Winchester (You: "Who?"; Oh, right: I meant Wiggum) Italian dialect accents: so Willy has now a Sardinian accent and in various episodes he claims to be from Sardinia (could be like intended that he went to Sardinia, but something he talks about it like he was born there, even tho he's still pretty much Scottish). FYI, Wiggum (aka Winchester in Italian) has a Roman accents. No added backstory of Rome or whatever, just a Roman dialect. It's not the only time we did this: like, in Super Paper Mario there this character, O'Chunks, that speaks with a thicc Scottish accents, in Italian he had a thicc Roman accent. Or in Puss in Boots 2m Goldie and the Bears have the "mafioso" accents from Naples in the Italian dub.
Always brighten my days greetings from Ecuador
62TH! Awesome new video lydia! (I subcribed to Lydia loves timelines btw!)
I love your videos. I too am an extreme Simpsons fan, but not just the Simpsons, I love all the animation shows old and new. I had a wild idea about a theory I have and this was the only way I could message you about it. Have you had the chance yet to,watch the Bob's burgers movie?? If so, I will continue, if not, I don't want tomgive spoilers.
best narrator and voice on youtube by far
I can watch your videos the whole day
29:34 Now that's good research! That's Tivoli Gardens, with their marching band dressed as Royal Guards. They perform daily, and in fact, I've been exactly where Marge is sitting. The Chinese Pagoda and the sailing ship which is also a restaurant are also accurate.
They've visited my two countries (Scotland and Italy) and I don't mind how they portrayed both at all tbh. That scene in the Italy episode where Homer is eating the salami off the machine always makes me really hungry for one of those sausages as they are bloody delicious lol! Really can't say I blame Homer there 🤣
I love your channel, Lydia
"Dollery-doos" sounds like something Ned would say 😆
Worth the wait haha
I love strider’s channel it was actually one of my first channels I subscribed to
You must be very young then. What about all the og channels? From the early days
@@gwrydd no I started watching his videos a few years ago
Hey Lydia ! Great video idea, you should do. A video of how many times homer and others have died during the series.! Especially with all the bodies homer has had over time I would love too see how many times he has been killed on screen!
Always great to see PhantomStrider! He's a fun dude ✌️
13:00 This is one of my favorite jokes that I remember from when I watched the show as a kid the '90s. All three questions by literally asking the same question three times just warning it differently.😂 I completely understand why Apu was so pissed about that But my goodness wasn't funny to say and hear Homer say that.😂
Would you DO a video on every state they've visited? I think that'd be ab even longer video lol (maybe MUCH longer) considering they've visited so many other states people were able to figure out they live in Oregon haha
wonderful video! also, i found a fun um, easter egg? i suppose an easter egg in the episode “The doh’cial network” (s23 episode11) at the VERY end there is a peek at a treehouse of horror thing that is in the 33rd season! (the treehouse of horror ep)
I was right about what this one would be! The English teeth thing must be so frustrating for you! It definitely doesn’t help anything that Hermione was described as having buck teeth by J. K. Rowling in Philosopher’s Stone. To me, that was another reason that people have that stereotype because of enjoying the books.
English teeth are disgusting, though.
"I see you've played Knifey Spoony before" To be honest as silly as The Simpsons England episode is it still beats out a lot of other shows set in England (they also didn't use London Calling by The Clash, which while a great song is possibly one of the most overused 'shorthand to tell you you're in England' needledrops).
I'm so sick of hearing 'Londons Calling' in movies and TVs show haha
@@TheSimpsonsTheory The Clash are awesome but it's superlazy. Another thing that hacks me off are the bad food jokes. Nothing beats Seppings sausages!
You should make a part two Which include your other countries category
Hey Lydia, great video as always. It's actually pronounced scoon
nice video. They didn't travel to Norway but we live next to Springfield in Ogdenville
I love that conversations like this could be had and we could get perspectives from people living in the countries that are getting depicted with stereotypes and how they feel about that.
As an Irishman I watch the Ireland episode with pride
16:54 "Knife Goes In, Guts Come Out" Probably my all time favorite Bart Simpson quote
This is going to be one Hell of a List you know they are probably banned from Hell too because of The Donut Incident lol. Respect and keep up the epic work.
As someone who was born and raised in Australia and grew up watching the simpsons this was easily one of my favorite episodes I still quote it to this day and 99.5% of people instantly pick up on the quotes 🤣🤣
You never mentioned! The Ireland episode also included my part of the UK. They go to Northern Ireland for a few seconds (the Giant's Causeway)
I so badly wanna hear how long this took to write, but all jokes aside this is amazing 💖
As an Australian I find the Winter-Summer Misconception %100 accurate since when the USA has winter we have summer and vice versa even with spring and autumn
While not another country, I always liked the episode where The Simpsons went to Boston as a native Bostonian. They spend a good amount of time mocking the Pats, they hired a couple native Bostonians for voice work (Rachel Dratch at least), and there was a deep dive in the background when they're in the hotel, a sign advertising "The Movie Loft" a very local program that no longer exists (well, program is a strong word, they basically just hosted movies). Though it's weird they portrayed Lechemere as a mom and pop store instead of a defunct local chain of electronics stores. I think it being a cartoon made it just surreal. They filmed a LOT of Free Guy over here, and seeing our real world in a fictitious video game was also weird.
Woohoo great video
I'm Australian and I loved the Australian episode. Every episode The Simpsons makes fun of the USA and that one episode they treated Australia to the same satire. It wasn't all of us but it was some of us. I enjoyed seeing Phantom in this video who had a similar point of view. Societies improve through challenge and feedback. If you can't laugh at yourself then you're lost.
Hi hello there.! I always enjoy your videos, they are so much fun.. 🙂 I just have a teeny tiny comment on this one; At the beginning of each section of this video, you played the anthem of the country to be discussed, nice touch.. BUT unfortunately you made a mistake with Tanzanere, the little piece of anthem you played was that of “Nkosi Sikelela iAfrika” (Meaning God Bless Africa), witch is the national anthem of South Africa, NOT Tanzanere.. - Still a good video though… 👍🏻🙂
Thank you, and yes I slapped my head as soon as I realised. I must have accidentally used the wrong one while editing. D'oh!! 😫
Great video thank you keep em coming please
Ur litterly the best Simpsons theorist I've seen I've also watched like every episode lol
I’m surprised the Simpsons didn’t have a full on episode about Mexico and it’s culture.
The petition to change Australia's currency to "Dollarydoos" is genuinely hilarious. I'm upset that this petition failed, it would've been amazing.
There were actually also scenes from the simpsons in germany (in the war flashbacks, since in some abe is portraid in a theatre with a certain dictator), in argentina (in the Australia episode bart also called argentina ig, since there were some old facists shown in the portraid Country and many of them escaped to argentina, so I just assume, that was the portraid Country. Also, in the brazilian world cup episode, Brazil played against Luxembourg, which was then also shown (snake robbed it)... ...I know that all of those apearences were pretty short and therefore maybe Not considered worthy of a mention, but still I wanted to mention them
The only problem with the Irish episode is them going from the Blarney castle and the giants causeway in the same tour. But let’s be honest they haven’t really done well with depictions of Northern Ireland lol eg orange leprechauns and ira etc
You're right, I was going to mention that. They are around 5 hours away from each other haha
@@TheSimpsonsTheory yeah I know it’s daft trying to apply logic to the Simpsons but yeah lol. Though I’m glad you didn’t mentioned the Irish stuff that got episodes banned and edited over here
🌹Happy Mothers Day!💐🧸❤🙏
Im English and I love the episode when they visited London even though their English accents weren’t great but it was a great episode to watch especially the roundabout scene
I’m Canadian and I completely forgot about the episodes that were in Canada. Over the years there have been known predictions on that show. I totally forgot the predictions of legalization of weed in Canada, that didn’t happen until 2018. The first time that the Simpson showing it was legal was 13 years before it happened, lol.
Now you should do a look at at states/cities the shows mocked. The two big ones off the top of my head are, new york, Florida,
I'm from Brazil and I always thought the reaction to the episode was really weird the way we got offended since most of things are actually pretty real. I mean we are obsessed with soccer, Carnival is easely the most important hollyday in here, at least four of my family members have been kidnaped before, our swimsuits would make David Hasselhoff proud, our open TV really had nearly pornographic content even on kids shows at the time and Rio actually has a problem with monkeys, so yeah, it was pretty much ''never before have I been so offended by something I one hundred percent agree with''

When I first saw the Australian episode, I didn't realize the guy was saying dollerydoos. I thought he was saying dollars reduced. Like maybe the bill said -$900 and that's just how they say it instead of saying nine hundred dollar reduction, or something, not that that wouldn't be a weird way to say it too, anyway.
As a fellow Brit, before The Regina Monologues aired, there was a small part of me that was hoping The Simpsons were going to stay in a hotel owned by Basil Fawlty who would be voiced by John Cleese. Homer and Basil would then argue and fight over the war. But for what we got, it was really funny.
FINALLY. You made Another Simpson Theory in *THIS* Month!
Haha I wish I can make more but these videos are so time consuming
@@TheSimpsonsTheory It's ok!

16:11 Uh-oh. The sign ends in "Robot Seizure".
For all that Mexico loves the Simpsons and how representative they have become culturally in our country, we have never received much love in the series, however at least the dubbing of the show is very prized.
I think the closest they ever came to visit Sweden was in of the non-canonical Treehouse of Horror Segments, when professor Frink went to Stockholm to accept the Nobel Prize. In something. I don't think they ever clarified what field his invention was supposedly prize worthy for. Having been to Stockholm a few times, I've yet to see a nudist cop direct traffic. And I could barely, after repeated viewings, comprehend Lisa's attempt to say "tack för att ni förärat vår stad". I would actually like to see a full episode on Sweden. Maybe including some jokes about Nordic Noir, our neutrality, our politics, our food culture (mainly our unconventional combinations and pizza toppings), and of course, more casual nudity. (It seems to be the favorite joke amongst both Americans and Brits.) Guest stars could include Greta Thunberg, ABBA members, preferably followed by some other musicians to remind viewers that Sweden as one of the world's leading exporters of music, does produce more than just ABBA. (Sabaton would be great, just for the massive contrast.) It would also be interesting to see Homer bungle the Allemansrätt, or freedom to roam. If the show would want to get more daring, some jokes about our hypocracy in bragging about our neutrality while exporting weapons indiscriminately would be interesting. Not that I've given this a lot of thought. 😇
Huh. Assumed you were Australian from your accent :P Anyway, hate to correct you, but Homer hit Henrietta R. Hippo, not the Queen lol
😂
The Simpsons mocked about France several times & we still love them - Thanks to the french team of dubbing it is a beloved show here. The 2 Actors which are dubbing Homer & Marge : Philippe Peythieu & Véronique Augereau meet on the set & are married since 24 years :)
16:19 The sad part about that was that I'm pretty sure that Porygon and its evolutions never appeared in another episode again after it. The seizures were from Pikachu, not Porygon. R.I.P Porygon even years from then.
Just to point something out. When you started with Tanzania's flag you played the South African anthem
I love the dropbear clinging on the helicopter
There was a quick visit to Sweden in one of the Tree house of horror episodes.
What about when homer, Lenny and Moe spoke Icelandic? That moment for us was big. I remember watching that part with my mom and sister and laughed hearing them speaking our hard language
That moe on beach Steve Irwin reference, aw
11:27 "City of Love" Is said by Isabella in Phineas and Ferb.
The episode about Israrl was seen as very funny and accepted by the people. The misrepresentation of the tour guide was hysterical. As a tour guide I thought it explceptionally funny.
A lot has happened in society during the long life of Simpsons, so the depictions of various countries might have been very different if done at a different time.
I'm a simple man, I see Phantom Strider pop up on a Lydia video I get happy :)
25:32 fun fact: this line was changed in the br dub. - What about Brazil? - After Brazil Was changed to: - Really, do you really think that? - If I said I think that.
