When I say “The Walking Dead” What’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it the recent seasons? The earlier seasons? The logo? Alright, what if I ask you to name a character from The Walking Dead? Probably 95% of you just said, Rick Grimes. The other 5 probably said, Daryl.

  • I feel like people think Rick always wanted Negan alive, which is obviously not true, but Maggie and Daryl act like it. He wanted him dead the most. It wasn't until he literally cut his throat that he didn't get peace, and he realized Carl was right. He didn't just do it for Carl. He did it for the future. Rick was ALWAYS the one who made the hard decisions. Not Shane, not Carol, not anyone else. Rick.

    • Wow that’s such a gold comment. You are so right, despite reading Carls letter multiple times to let it sink in to his brain and even though Carl expressed his wishes Rick still didn’t comprehend cause his wrath prevailed above everything. But it’s not until he cuts Negans throat and he doesn’t get peace from it, that’s when it finally sinks in. That’s why he says the words “My mercy prevails over my wrath” I didn’t want Carl to die, I always thought he was the future. I always thought Rick would die at the end of the show and Carl would continue the series in a spin-off or whatever. But to me it always made perfect sense to kill Carl, cause Rick needed something life changing to make him do a 180 and change his mind/point of view towards Negan, and spare him.

    • “Though Rick does at one point become very similar to Shane, Rick always possessed a shred of humanity that Shane did not. Shane could've never been the leader that Rick was”.-@TheModernPioneer Rick was worse than Shane in season 5 and for good reason, he’d lived longer and went through more to become that way. That was the whole point of season 5, him losing his humanity and trying to get it back to fit in at Alexandria since he lost trust. Are we going to forget that Rick wanted to kill Pete so he could have Pete’s wife Jesse or that he convinced his followers to sneak into a camp and slit the throats of a group of people in their sleep that they had never met? He was practically a hit man at that point, a gun for hire. He killed those people so Hilltop would trade lifestock and other supplies, in exchange for killing their enemies. Even Comic book Rick lost his way but he was never as bad as tv show Rick. I felt a lot more for Rick in the comics than I did in the show. A lot of what happened to him and his people I felt was deserved because they were just as shitty as the Saviours group which is a big problem I had with the show. Walking dead is only decent and close to the source material from season 1-4. That’s when the show was at its best and was a top show with only Game of thrones to compete with. The comics new when to call it quits but the show did not. -me

It for Daryl if anything it was smart going after them first being on offense because of what happened in the past(Governor)

      @zCREz@zCREz8 ай бұрын
    • @@zCREzThe reason he doesnt count because RJ wasn't raised by him and took on nothing of his father except genetics. Even Judith was at least raised by him and then raised by the people that took on Ricks ways and were lead by him. His leadership and his legacy really only lived on through Carl and Carl was meant to pass on what hr learned to Judith. But the killed Carl. Judith is the only thing left of Ricks legacy and it wasn't much. Because Judith wasn't raised completely by Rick. RJ is pretty much an Orphan nobody raised that kid. So he don't count and he can't carry on a legacy he never knew.

He faltered at times but he was never malicious or cowardly in the way Shane was. And Rick was never about sacrificing people out of fear. The closest he came was Michonne in season 3 when the Gov asked for her. Shane was always ready and willing to sacrifice anyone in an instant. Rick always tried to help. Shane didn't.

Fear is mankind's most primal emotion and is neck and neck (yet probably still ahead) with love. Just pointing out Rick and crew and everyone in the show has acted out of fear to varying degrees including killing the living.

    • @@itgbeatmakerz3709 Episode 6x9 where the Saviors were about to kill Daryl and Co, which shows that the Saviors always made the first move on some of Rick's crew... Of course ALL characters at some point have failed to measure what they do and what they deal with later due to their decisions, however, it must be stressed that when it comes to wars and conflicts, they start once there are threats and attacks involved. (That's why my replied stands about saviors making the first move). Regardless of whether they acted out of fear, (which is something all the characters in the series have done at some point as you said, that "fear" is mostly based on what would happen if they don't do something about the situation and what would befall them, that's why they rely on acting out of "fear"), however, it doesn't change the fact that it was what drove them to do what they did. There is no reaction without there first being an action that incentivizes that reaction in the first place.

In the comics, Rick seemingly having given in to Negan, he's actually formulating a plan for pay-back and spies on them through Jesus. This would've added so much to his character, the leader who doesn't let things slide. The group didn't need to know, even the audience didn't need to know till before All Out War. They felt like the world was theirs and nothing could stand in their way. And when he meets Negan it’s like a reality check. Like “you think you’re all that? You think you’re the man? Guess again”. Negan and the Saviors were bigger and badder and Rick had no chance unless all the communities banded together and even then it was still slim chances. • @@IIIISai i agree they extended that arc for wayyyy too long. It started since season 6 and ended in season 8. That was 2 seasons and a half, 2 and a half years to tell one storyline. It was definitely dragged to make the show longer and keep milking money out of it. Same as the whisperer arc, that shouldn’t have lasted 2 entire seasons, they just keep milking the show for every penny they can and it ruins the show. I don’t agree with making Rick cry more about Carl than Glenn, after all even though Glenn is like family, Carl is actual family, it’s his son. Imagine someone making you cut off your sons arm just to prove a point. That’s twisted af and would break any man. Rick did cry when Glenn and Abraham died but his mind and focus weren’t on mourning them it was on revenge which is why Negan knew he hadn’t broken him. He also didn’t want to fight Negan for the first 8 episodes of season 7, the other 8 were him preparing to fight Negan. And contrary to people’s beliefs. I of course didn’t want Carl to die and always believed he would be the future of the show. Like Rick would die in the end but Carl would continue the show in a spin off or whatnot. But Carls. Death made perfect sense because Rick showed a hatred towards Negan wayyy deeper than in the comics so sparring his life (like in the comics) wouldn’t have made sense unless something drastically and life changing changed his point of view. Hence Carls death, his last wish was forgiveness and mercy to prevail over wrath. Once Rick slit Negans throat and he saw that he got no peace from it that’s when Carls words finally sink in and he spares him. I just think the pacing wasn’t great but that was due to the fact of extending the story arc just to keep milking the show

  • I always found carls transition from season 7 to 8 very outta left field, because as far as ik carl was all for negan dying and taking down the saviors, he literally went to the sanctuary to try and kill him and he kept pressuring the saviors AND trying to tempt rick to start fighting and then for season 8 to start and Carl is being a lil pansy like “oh we dont need to fight thats not gonna change anything” like bruh were u not like top 5 people tryna persuade rick to fight back??🤔make it make sense. Ik scott gimple and chandler riggs were in an outing at the time and he was writing his character out but like in universe it just made no sense to me, and they shouldve done the old man carl story instead in my opinion. Keep judith yeah but i feel like carl could’ve been a great defacto leader with his father away

      @IIIISai@IIIISai Жыл бұрын
    • You are 100% right! Scott literally admitted they killed off Carl to give Rick a reason to have a change of heart about Negan. That's it. They wanted to give Rick an excuse to spare Negan because he was a fan fave already and they didn't want to write him off. It wasn't deeper than that. It was just ratings-bait and fan service, the same as lot of the Daryl stuff was.

  • How do you feel about Tyrese? His character was so important in the comics and his legacy with the show was that he was a “weak character” when he was far from it. They gave all of his stories away and then didn’t kno what to do with his character so they killed him for shock. Even when Carol started feeling guilty for all the kills she made, Tyrese was never mention even tho exactly what he said would happen, happened. She felt the guilt and couldn’t live with it. Its just like he never existed.

    • Ty was the prime Victim of Daryls Fame. I would have loved to see Ty knocking out Rick, getting great character development, but oh no than we couldn't have Daryl Boy be the main man. I really hate what they've done to many characters just to put Daryl in the spotlight

    • @@norbertbluhm6999 Agreed. Tyrese could have easily become Rick’s right-hand man in the show just as he was in the comics, all while keeping the brotherly bond with Daryl in the show as his left-hand man. However, they wrote him in such a way after his introduction as being nothing more than a background side character, paying more to the show’s fan service more than anything by leaning in to the untouchable sacred cow.

I think he did get a big ending and yes he's great but don't blame Daryl. Daryl has kept the show going after Rick got hurt. So leave him alone. Plus Norman Reedus and Andy L are such good mates.

  • I liked TWD until Rick's departure. And I didn't take him as good person. Since terminus he became villain but in our eyes he was always Right. Look at it from perspective of Alexandrians from start. They were ok everyone happy no problems, he came and problems started rolling. But much better example was saviours. They attacked them their fathers mothers kids. They were in their eyes like bandits. Even Negan mentioned that. What he should have said to his people about Rick at that point? Yes Negan wasn't the nicest person but he was keeping it together one way or another. Working system inside. Rick was the one who was always agrresive. Whole series was great from start to finish

  • When I hear the 'The Walking Dead' my first thought is just the prison season, specifically Hershels execution, don't know why it just felt so signature within the show overall, even the later episodes have some really solid moments similar to that but the reason we know our characters aren't safe is primarily from Hershels execution, just a thought in the wind.
