Benavidez is no defensive genius but his guard opposes a bit of a problem. It's always protecting his body and he does a decent job at parrying. Although, he does expose himself from time to time when he's seeking heavy shots. One big flaw I noticed in Benavidez is that it takes him some time to reposition himself. He turns like a semi-truck. He is also quite stationary and shows no interest in using foot work for the benefit of creating angles. I don't think Caleb was far off the target when he said he has a higher boxing IQ than Benavidez

People are sleeping on him bc of his resume but remember nobody wanted to fight him then people say he lacks defense but people are just saying what other people are saying. If you paid attention to his past 3 fights he’s definitely stepped his defense up.
