Wireless
Bruh moment
To be fair: The ModMic Wireless and ModMic USB are USB Type-A, so they DO work with this laptop... and other laptops without a 3.5mm jack. But we're firmly in the camp of KEEP 3.5mm as a company.
Guys it's the concept don't worry about wireless
I have a touch screen on my laptop and I have never ever used it
For me sometimes it is kinda useful on certain condition
it's the kind of thing that once you notice it and get a need for it, it's really hard to get it a pass...until then you are safe!
I use mine all the time
For real. If you want a touch screen to use on the couch or whatever, just use an iPad. Even a 3-4 year old used one is going to be far better for touch screen use scenarios. Laptops are meant for typing in class, or for use on a desk when traveling, etc. You have a touchpad for the minimal mouse use you are going to need, and a dedicated mouse will be used all other times.
@@trapical you can't code on ipad tho
The lightness of the ZenBook is a big selling point for me. The Dell XPS models are so heavy for their size. That said I think I prefer 16:10 to 16:9.
I bought one of the first gen of zenbook. Build quality was quite good- all metal 10 screws to take off the back cover. Still soldered RAM even back then, and a weird/custom SSD interface. Also mini-HDMI and micro-DP WHAT?. Held up fairly well to 3 years of use, Corners are dented and the hinge loosened up, but the killing issue was the small barrel plug charger becoming bent and non-functional. Nowadays won't even consider a laptop unless it has WWAN though.
I almost went for the XPS15, then almost the Zenbook but eventually settled on what Im using now, the Zephyrus G14
Ideapad 4800U here
G14 is a very nice choice. If only it had a webcam

The UX425 is probably the best everyday non-gaming 14" laptop on the market today. Huge battery, larger-than-usual screen in its class (competitors are 13.3"), very light at 2.6lb, and a great keyboard for its weight class. Alex's criticisms of it (no touch screen, no headphone jack) were minor, and you could just attach the dongle to your headphones. It's better than a headphone jack because there's no EMI noise. The only laptops that are lighter either have smaller screens, a worse battery, or a crappy keyboard and screen, like the LG Gram 14.

Hi Alex, I have commented on TechLinked before on the 'clunky acting' you have when needing to follow a script. This format works so much better for you. Personal and direct. I love it! Thank you for the great review :)
From where I am from, Zenbooks are always cheaper than XPSs for the same performance. And sometimes the differences are quite substantial. So it can be difficult to justify buying an XPS. I have had mediocre experiences with ASUS' laptops though so I would almost always recommend for people to get a Thinkpad instead, even over an XPS.
yeah you're right. Just now, I was looking at the XPS 13 for $800 vs a Zenbook 14 OLED for $700. The Zenbook has way better specs for less price because they go for sale more often. Ironically the XPS was already on sale lmao

That dongle is an incredible DAC. I was wondering why one would mess with the headphone Jack in such a laptop. Then I realized that it is actually a HiFi DAC powered by an ESS SABRE chip. And it sounds great. Very pleasant to listen to. Comparing with other small DACs, like Fiio BTR5 it has a powerful output and a clear sound that match the BTR5.

The issue I have with laptops that aren't Dell or HP is the availability of parts once something breaks. Trying to find a replacement part for something like MSI, Razer, ASUS in the US is very hard once out of warranty. Most are in China and getting it is always a toss up.

Crosscode is amazing.
Man, but how about the PRICE ? For some of us it's a criteria !
Would like to try one in the future, but only when Asus ships it with at least a 5 year warranty. My 2012 ZB model's SSD broke two months after warranty voided, then 6 months later the NVIDIA GPU also broke. So the only way to continue using it was with a Linux install running from the Intel HD graphics. Windows instantly BSOD's on the broken NVIDIA GPU during installation. I also had to de-solder the broken SSD to avoid random crashes. The Asus laptop I owned before that was build from cheap plastic that broke off after only 6 months, voiding the warranty due to (by Asus claimed) in-proper usage. The fact is, a large percentage of my university had that same laptop and probably 95% of us had the plastic casing breaking in the same locations. But that was ignored by Asus. Then recently a friends desktop GPU broke a couple of days before his warranty ended, causing a whole discussion when they only received the GPU at their service desk couple of weeks later due to delayed shipment thanks to the current pandemic. I only have this issue with Asus products, my other branded hardware keeps working even when +10 years old. Just my experiences and opinion ofc.
I went for a Zenbook 15 over an XPS 15 2 years ago as it was $250 - $300 cheaper for the same specs. Very happy with my decision. It's the most flawless laptop I've ever owned. My friend with an XPS of the same size has had a battery over expansion and a dead WiFi card.
How’s it going with the laptop
What asus has failed to mention is that the DAC supplied type-c to 3.5mm dongle is made by ESS, one of the top makers of DACs. It's like the marketing and engineering departments at Asus don't get along pretty well. I bet 99 percent of reviewers complaining the lack of 3.5 jack don't know anything about DACs and ESS SABRE series of dacs. But to me and everyone else that knows a thing or two about audio quality, asus has done a marvelous job here.

"Get the XPS 13, it's friggin' awesome." That may be, but the cheapest version is also over 2x the price of any laptop I've ever seen anyone I know buy, and 20-40% more expensive than my Nitro 5 Spin was, and THAT came with GPU that you can play some games on, is a 2-in-1, has both an M.2 and an HDD, same amount of RAM... The XPS 13 might be great, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class of laptops, but it's a luxury product. Most of us buy a Honda or a Toyota because they're just way better price to performance. If I'm paying upwards of 1200€ (yes, that's the cheapest XPS 13 here) I better be getting MUCH more than a middling i5 and integrated graphics. For the same price I could get a laptop with a Ryzen 7 4800H and an RTX 2060, with twice the RAM. OK, different category, it'd weigh a full kg more. So lets match CPU, RAM, storage, resolution and weight, and I still end up with multiple options at nearly half the price. I could get a Lenovo Yoga for 400-600€ less, and would end up with twice the SSD space as well... The XPS 13 would have to absolutely amaze me for me to ever consider it as a serious option.

You'll see plastic bezels even on premium laptops that have a matte screen. Touchscreen on a clamshell laptop is somewhat pointless (personal opinion). The lack of a headphone jack is somewhat disappointing although I haven't used headphones with a 3.5mm jack in ages. The Lenovo Ideapad/Yoga Slim 7 (depending on region) has more ports, and slightly better specs at roughly the same price or even lower. Asus usually has overpriced laptops.
He's becoming this weirdly funny guy and I'm loving it lol
I think the B9450 might be more interesting if you absolutely want the headphone jack. Also, it has better options :)
Me: Looks across at the Zenbook 14 I bought on sale earlier this year. Overall, I quite like it. But I never use the touchpad-numpad-thingy, and it's annoying when I activate it accidentally. And just like this model, there's zero upgradability. All you can do is swap out the M.2 SSD
Having no headphone jack on a phone is acceptable to me because I always use bluetooth headphones on the go anyway, however I always use wired headphones/headsets with my computers, even when I'm traveling. Having to use a dongle which I would be very likely to lose would 100% be a deciding factor between this and its competition.
