I cannot believe that an April fools update can be used to reaffirm lore for the theory that Guardians are blocks because there are essentially slab Guardians.
19:50 "this is not a potato" and "self portrait" are a reference to the René Magritte's set of paintings. "this is not a pipe" is officially called The Treachery of Images. Also the 9 differently colored potatoes are definitely a nod to Andy Warhol's work in general. Really nice references to famous painters.

The effort put into April Fools updates each year goes up, and I love it. Never did I think that the Steve Co. TF2 reference joke for April Fools would turn into a massive potato dimension.
I would love it if they put a fraction of this effort into the actual updates.

Exactly what I came here to say. This should show people how much they could do for the game.
They work all year doing the April fools update and do the regular updates as a side thing
with mid textures, mid generation, and just rushed features overall. don't critic that
To me, this shows that they've streamlined the process of adding new content a lot ever since the community started raging about a lack of content in updates. Plus, the custom dimension support added after the infinity snapshot likely made it much easier to make the potato dimension. Obviously they did this without QA, parity, or futureproofing, but if this is what they're able to do in their off-time, 1.22's looking good. And as many others have said, content from this update which is cool (i.e. the floataters and grappling hook) does have a chance to get into future updates, especially considering that prior april fools features have been added to the base game (like the aforementioned dimensions).
Yeah, but they're testing new features here, of course it'll have more content than main updates. Also, it's pretty buggy. They'll refine some of these to add it for main updates though.
it would be cool if they made the April fools updates available as data packs like the experimental features, i would love to mess with the floatater block in future versions of the game

The boss fight room is literally a treasure bastion made from different blocks
The last few April Fool's updates have included some features that acted as prototypes/tests for future real features. Want to take bets on which features here might become the basis of real stuff in 2.22 or later? Frying table maybe? Or a grappling hook? Maybe an entirely new dimension (less potato-themed, I'd assume)?

It's good to see that Mojang is putting effort into Minecraft where it really matters. Thank God they're not taking time from the necessary things that need to be in Minecraft, like side slabs, or quality of life changes!

The devs have no limitation when working for the april fools updates as they aren't official, any normal update requires the approval of Microsoft, even the most minute of additions.

Most of this content isn't actually new, just retextures. We could see the new stuff come into the base game, like the block of coal, or more recently the attribute modifiers for size

When you fall in the void of the potato dimension, you have some end cradits, but weird...
Pro tip: Use the potato elytra and lashing potato at the same time. The lashing potato serves as a booster similar to fireworks.
The potato stem was such a troll for those of us who were really hoping to see some green wood in the game 😅 But for a troll that gave us super ugly planks, I actually really like the door pattern and the green signs.

20:13 this is based on an extremely famous painting. the reason it's not a potato is because it's a picture of a potato and not a potato, therefore its not a potato. The original is "There is no pipe". The self portrait is also based on a real painting.

I actually never thought of poisonous potatoes as worthless. Although they are useless, they felt like a trophy to me, similarly to diamonds once you make all you need from them.
the floatater can move a large amount of connected potato blocks when powered, functioning as a vehicle :)

More content, but less effort
There is a difference between more content, less effort, and literally 10x the content at only 0.5x the quality. Like certain implementations of things usually take a long time, but if we could get that much content at a higher quality by having less updates the I would be open to that. We also don’t know how long they actually worked on the April fools updated if it was like a week then there is no reason for the lack of content if they spend 6 months on regular content. Even at a entire month it still is crazy the amount of content at a lower quality when their have 6 months to complete less content at a higher quality and still manage to not be at a extremely high quality (bugs that have been around for years breaking the game as well as other issues). Either way it is fair to say that a lot of this update simply copies what already exists, but not everything.
@@SalvanimNotch used to add a single feature per week. This could be a new mob, block, or even structure. Granted there is a quality difference is modern textures and structures than back then. Point is the yearly updates have the content of what can be made in half a year.
