To have this much appreciation for the experience and co actors who are now life long friends speaks volumes of his character and sense of perspective. How many of us grunts and nobody's would respond to getting written off, fired in a sense, would react this way? When you hate a character in a film that much you have to realize how powerful their acting is. Much like Dwight Yokum in sling blade. Every person who saw that movie wanted to personally do what Billy Bob did.

  • Bernthal's story about wanting to go and say goodbye and just watching them crack on without him is really relateable to me right now, having just left my first real job which was bartending. Obviously they are two different jobs, acting and hospitality and two different worlds, but I identified with that feeling of suddenly realising that now youre back on the outside. When you work at a place for a significant period of time, especially your first proper job you get it into your head that you are sort of indispensible, and one of the family. The people you see everyday for a good long while, for better or worse they become your whole world. You make friends there. Maybe you find yourself with a little workplace crush. You become embroiled in the drama and the banter and the workload and that becomes your identity. And then when you leave everyone is really sad and its all hugs and goodbyes and "make sure you come back to visit!" and you become convinced that this place won't be the same without you and that you've left a mark that was as significant as the mark it left on you. But then when you do go back, you see that life goes on and people are keeping on at the job without you. Maybe you go back after a week and people are happy to see you and say they miss you, but now youre a guy who USED to work here. Youre not really one of the crew anymore and that can be a pretty tough pill to swallow.

Plus they wasted most of their season budget on the prison battle with the Governor so the next 8 episodes were characters walking around in the woods. S 5 tho made up for it I guess most of those episodes were really good

While I loved Shane, he left at the right time and his death made sense and the character was complete. Better than so many other TWD characters that stayed on way too long and became stale or just had arcs that just kept going in circles.

Everything fell apart for Shane with Rick showed up alive. Still, Shane was the one that had that survivalist mentalitality. Rick was a bit unhinged and later on, he went full on crazy. Shane had to do what he did because there were two alpha dogs in the group and you can't have that. He took the challenge and he died for it.

    • I never do this, either before or after TWD, but I used to watch the episodes twice if they were the good ones, in the first three seasons. The show was good until S6, but I never did that after S3. I recently started watching S9 after I quit in S7 (S8x01 was last I watched, so I picked up at the end of that season.) S9 is actually pretty good even after Rick left and feels more grounded even though it's way more scifi, which is weird. I said I was just going to watch it until Rick left, but now I find myself enjoying it again. Maybe I'm just desperate for something to watch, but I'm enjoying TWD for the first time in seven years. It will never be as good as those first three seasons though, but I missed this universe for some reason. Darabont just set up such an interesting universe, it's too bad AMC almost killed it. If HBO (pre-2010 HBO) had produced this show, it would've been one of the best ever made.@@buffnipz
