  • The umpire was acting as if it was Nadal’s challenge - it it was Nadal’s challenge, then he would’ve asked for the video replay without asking Berdych to challenge his over-rule - if the ball had been in fact “out”, Berdych would’ve been told his has one less challenge The umpire announced Berdych challenging that the ball was called “out”, but it was not Nadal’s call, it was the umpire’s over rule call To be a Nadal challenge, the umpire would’ve announced the ball was called “in” with Nadal challenging that it was out This idiot umpire covered his mistake by turning it into a Nadal challenge when he clearly knows it was his call “out”;as he so announced that Berdych was challenging Hence, it was an over rule by umpire that stopped the play, with a successful Berdych challenge, and a ball that was returned successfully by Nadal before the umpire stopped the play with his over rule Coward umpire and stupid commentators

      @pauloya@pauloya2 жыл бұрын
    • You cannot award Berdych that point, because Nadal DID hit his shot in. If the ruling of OUT is overruled to IN, the point should be replayed.

      @trwent@trwent Жыл бұрын
    • I don't know the exact rules in this kind of situations, but I think umpires are allowed to use some critical thinking and common sense while making calls. As in this play, its true that Nadal put the ball back in play succesfully, but right after he stopped the play, still before chair umpire had called it out. So once you stop the play the point is given away right? In my opinion its great awareness from the umpire to give the point to Berdych since Nadal stopped the play before the call was made. If Nadal let the ball go and then the call came late, it would have been Berdych point anyways, right? So in this situation Nadal stopping the play right after putting the ball back in play can be compared to him just letting the ball go, hence giving Berdych the point since the shot was in. Not the exact same situation but something similar happened when Carreno-Busta played Nishikori in AO 2019. Its way more harsh in my opinion, but also shows that the umpires are allowed to make exceptions.

    @edlockley2420@edlockley24203 жыл бұрын
    • Novak definitely wasn't - racket bouncing into the stands is dangerous and could have been given a lot worse than just a warning / he's only complaining, in typical Djokovic fashion, about the weather during the Murray match because he's losing. Federer clearly didn't 'mishit' but I agree the ball wasn't hit hard enough to warrant a point penalty.
