Yuan is a tough player, she finished last year with 4 consecutive finals and moved from 150 to 73 in the rankings ... I wouldn't call this an extraordinary upset ... it was a close match
You’re joking? Sloane is a grand slam champion. If Sloane plays to her potential she should’ve have easily won this match.
@@Smartkid2387 Stephens won the US Open in 2017 when she was 23 years old. It's now almost 7 years later and she is now 30 years old. She has peaked in 2018 and her record since has showed that she has been a top 50 player if she could even stay healthy through the whole season. That's her potential. Don't get me wrong, I root for Stephens too, but i think it isn't a surprise that her losing to a younger top 50-100 player in first round matches.

@@Smartkid2387 You are perfect for a job as tennis commentator. Stuck in the past and not wanting to let go.
@@andyhung424able her potential is not losing in the first round to a player ranked 73. She is still young and as far I can see hasn’t lost anything in her game physically. Her problem is executing and motivation. Problems that could still be turned around.
Wonderful win. Congratulations to Yuan.
Sloane lacks that true fire and intensity required to win these matches. It’s like she’s playing in the park somewhere 🤦🏽♂️🥹
Loving yuans retro socks
Sloane‘s consistent will always be her inconsistent…
I can’t help but agree. Sloane could and can be a great player, but no conviction on her part, lazy and seems to give up too easily
@@user-cf8sn3nv5b She's not the only one. I've noticed many players who can't seem to get it together, maybe because they're lazy, having a bad day, or don't want it enough.🥱
Lazy is a racist term. Congrats!@@user-cf8sn3nv5b
Girlfriend just disappears in matches 😂🙄🙄🙄🤣
@@23Echeo From what I've seen a lot of that is happening with players who've been around for a long time, girlfriend.😂😅😅😭
2008 called, it wants its 720 resolution back. Time for an upgrade!
NO MORE FAVORITES ODDS TO YUAN YUE THANK YOU
That is a BIG win for Yuan. That has got to be huge for confidence to start off the season. Wow.
this is a small win, Slow & Out of Shape Sephens hasnt been relevant in almost a decade
@@kevinpatrickcarey3741 The tiebreak in the third begs to do differ. As stated earlier. This is a BIG win for Yuan, and will really help her confidence to start off the season. Beating a top 45 big name player will always help motivate a lower ranked player, especially in the first round.
very high quality match, congrats to yuan! i miss prime sloane 😢😢
Yuan Yue has been on my one to watch list for a while now, i hope 2024 is her breakthrough year
Alas, prime Sloane is way in the rearview mirror. She plays just well enough to stay in the game and pick up paychecks.
Slow Stephens hasnt been prime in 8 years
Based on the highlights, this was absolutely not a high quality match
Sloane has been on the tour for 15 years now, so she's got some emotional, mental and physical miles logged in. Maybe she's winding down her career and can't bring herself to just walk away. Very well could be dealing with health issues that she's not sharing (I hope not!). Could be a number of things, but the fire isn't there like it used to be. Still pulling for her. Hope her "Act 2" is enjoyable. (Imagine, being just 30 years old, wealthy, and already put in enough years in one career to start something new! Must be nice.)
tbh it's great that sloane takes some losses versus hungry opponents. she needs to figure out if she wants to put in 100% or 0. this 30-50% effort she puts in matches just isn't going to cut it. it's also unprofessional to give such low effort especially considering how much she gets paid in these tournaments for early exits. i really hope she decides to rededicate herself, because she's a great player when focused.
Congs to Yuan
So many breaks of serve, wow
I don't understand why play tennis if you no longer put in the effort. I was such a fan of Sloane because I seriously felt that she had what it took to win another slam. Thank goodness there are other players to cheer for.
Sloane has become a part time player, if she’s not going to take it seriously she ought to retire. She’s clearly out of shape and lacking practice.
I actually think Sloane didn’t play bad. She started off a little slow, but that’s slow. We have come to expect that about her. But overall, she didn’t play bad at all. Some of the Shots she needed go in her favor. Great match!
Good win for her.
"Extraordinary upset?" lol... Who the heck isn't beating Stephens is what I want to know. Stephens is one of the most inconsistent female players I know. of.
You speak of consistency like as if you have won several titles either on WTA or the ATP. I am highly certain you wouldn't be able to win a measly ITF title playing an eight year old.
@@AshutoshSingh-bw7hi Butt hurt much?
@@AshutoshSingh-bw7hi I'm a huge Sloane fan but your argument here is weak. It's always amusing when someone makes a fairly reasonable comment and then some simp just says "you couldn't do any better", this person doesn't have to, we aren't professional tennis players. For Sloane and company it is literally their profession so of course they should do better.
@@tysontwenty Well said. Not often I run into someone who puts facts before "feelings". Thank you.
Let’s be honest - we stopped betting in Sloane after that fluke 2017 US Open that was gifted to her by Madison Keys.
It was Safina Or Dementieva who deserved a grandslam comparing to Sloane.
The RG final the next year, and WTA final where she beat Osaka, Kerber and Pliskova on the way. The problem is she was too lazy to improve her game, or at least try her hardest in every tournament like some girls do.
she's not lazy i think she struggles with mental health a lot
its funny also the AMERICAN player ONLY GS was the US Open lol lol
Nobody wins a grand slam on a fluke. Her game was outstanding then, has nothing to do with now. At least be sincere enough to give credit where it's due. Today, seems like her mind is on other things and she's just clocking in to work like a lot of folks with "regular jobs" just clock in, keep a low profile, and collect those checks. If she has the skillset and strength to stay in it that way, her choice... not fun to watch, but her call.
Happy holiday Sloane!
Wow Sloane still playing on the WTA!😮
Sloane hasn’t improved her game since winning the US Open, i get the feeling she just competes for the money these days, she doesn’t seem interested in improving
Both players remarkably calm. Nice to see, compared to screaming Sabalenka or angry Ostapenko 😂
Yuan wasn't exactly quiet. She's too loud for my tastes.
Not a surprise at all 🤷🏿♂️
Never heard Yayuan before
Her name is Yuan Yue and she got to the third round of the US OPEN in 2022 then unfortunately got injured which disrupted her momentum
The mighty Sloane ? Chile am I missing something ? When has she ever been mighty ? lol
Why is this an extraordinary upset? Is there a guilty party somewhere or one that deserves less than the other?
gotta hype the diversity
Sloane plays for fun she does not have it anymore to win! Lets be realistic
Slug Stephens is keeping the losing record alive, maybe if she spent her time getting her fitness in check she'd win at least a couple of games, certainly won't be winning any tournaments.
glad im not the only one who notices how out of shape Sloe Stephens is
ouch
I think i could return Sloane's serve. She never really goes after it consistently and is immediately on defense most of the time. She needs to be more offensive minded like the younger players to keep competing....
And it’s so frustrating because she could easily hit 110-115mph
Unfortunately I have been watching Sloane during this comeback in the last 6 months and it looks like to me she is just playing tennis these days and no longer competing with too many 1st and 2nd round loses. She looks sluggish on the court and her serve no longer is a weapon.
comeback? like a V Williams "comeback"
The "marvellous Sloane Stephens"? When? 1946?
Sloane hits like a girl who comes out of school and play at her home backyard. 😂😂
Sloan stephens love you. Keep up with the sport❤
Time to retire Sloane
prob hang around in her 40s like a has been ghost like V Williams
God i hope AusOpen court surface is faster than this crap 🙏.
After covid lockdown she never recovered her championship form. Oh and she married tge football player.
Someone already said in the comments, Sloane is a part time tennis player. At this point, she should just retire. Very uninspiring to watch her
I’ll just put all the comments to rest here. Sloane’s style of play changed after her one time win at the US Open. Don’t get me wrong I love her but after she got married she’s become even more laxed. After you get married people don’t want to be working their fingers to the bone like that. She needs to retire. The newcomers are better and the style of play has changed.
*_Elina Svitolina has left the chat_*
This is such a boring match. Break after break after break😢
Well done Sloane 👏
sarcasm?
lol lol Slow Stephens just needs to quit and shes on the pancakes & corndogs heavy!
Where did Stevens get so much fat from? She's twice the weight compare to when she won the slam prix.
No one problem solves like Sloane, but she also creates her own problems 🤐
Slow Stephens......
It is so frustrating to watch Sloane waste all her talent. No reason why she shouldn’t be a top ten player.
I’m still wondering why Sloane Stephens has not joined the ladies band wagon of having a baby yet. That’s where she belongs right now. Her career is practically over, she’s just hanging in there.
Sloane needs to go sit down, be with her husband, and make some babies. Stop wasting everyones time with this nonsense. Just losing to anybody.
