  • Yuan is a tough player, she finished last year with 4 consecutive finals and moved from 150 to 73 in the rankings ... I wouldn't call this an extraordinary upset ... it was a close match

    • You’re joking? Sloane is a grand slam champion. If Sloane plays to her potential she should’ve have easily won this match.

    • @@Smartkid2387 Stephens won the US Open in 2017 when she was 23 years old. It's now almost 7 years later and she is now 30 years old. She has peaked in 2018 and her record since has showed that she has been a top 50 player if she could even stay healthy through the whole season. That's her potential. Don't get me wrong, I root for Stephens too, but i think it isn't a surprise that her losing to a younger top 50-100 player in first round matches.

  • Sloane has been on the tour for 15 years now, so she's got some emotional, mental and physical miles logged in. Maybe she's winding down her career and can't bring herself to just walk away. Very well could be dealing with health issues that she's not sharing (I hope not!). Could be a number of things, but the fire isn't there like it used to be. Still pulling for her. Hope her "Act 2" is enjoyable. (Imagine, being just 30 years old, wealthy, and already put in enough years in one career to start something new! Must be nice.)

    @ltrotter636@ltrotter6364 ай бұрын
  • tbh it's great that sloane takes some losses versus hungry opponents. she needs to figure out if she wants to put in 100% or 0. this 30-50% effort she puts in matches just isn't going to cut it. it's also unprofessional to give such low effort especially considering how much she gets paid in these tournaments for early exits. i really hope she decides to rededicate herself, because she's a great player when focused.

It's always amusing when someone makes a fairly reasonable comment and then some simp just says "you couldn't do any better", this person doesn't have to, we aren't professional tennis players. For Sloane and company it is literally their profession so of course they should do better.

    • Nobody wins a grand slam on a fluke. Her game was outstanding then, has nothing to do with now. At least be sincere enough to give credit where it's due. Today, seems like her mind is on other things and she's just clocking in to work like a lot of folks with "regular jobs" just clock in, keep a low profile, and collect those checks. If she has the skillset and strength to stay in it that way, her choice... not fun to watch, but her call.

Don’t get me wrong I love her but after she got married she’s become even more laxed. After you get married people don’t want to be working their fingers to the bone like that. She needs to retire.
