Best of Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X in Rallying 2012 - 2020

The last edition of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution wasn't only based on a new model and platform, the technical side of the car was almost completely new as well. The 4B11T engine replaced the 4G63 which was a part of the Evo since the very first car. The Evo X never came close to the success of the previous versions in rallying and remained a comparatively rare sight on the stages.
Enjoy the pure sound of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 with anti lag system! This is part thirteen of a series of compilations, every Saturday we will take a look back on a specific car in rallying. The series will go on until the restrictions are lifted and rallying in Central Europe is possible again. Stay home, stay healthy and enjoy the incredible amount of rally footage on the internet...

    • @@jmj5150The Lancer Evolution is a man’s car, the stripped down gritty top rally specs. It’s proved that only with a capable driver coupled with an equally capable car does the Mitsubishi Lancer perform at its best. An STI is the car I’d give to a sixteen year old. Mitsubishi only has four titles in Group A, and one WRC Sole Manufacturer Title. It’s funny because people think of the EVO IX, instead of the actual winning VR-X type Lancers.

  • Everyone in the rallying community knows that the Lan Evo and the Impreza used to be kings in rallying. Honestly, their fall from grace has to do with the rise and maturity of European rally cars, which are mostly hatchbacks. Hatchbacks have many advantages over sedans in rallying, thanks to their small size and good amount of balance. If you look at the Evo VII and its successors, they were noticeably much bigger and heavier than their predecessors, which was very disadvantageous in rallying. The same goes to the Impreza, which started out as a very small first gen model, subsequently becoming bulkier and heavier through the next generations.

    • 100%. To expand on what you've said, I think European Manufacturers have that big advantage due to their market demographic specifically. For a rally car to qualify, X amount of production cars of that model must be sold before being able to enter it in WRC. It's not necessarily that having the hatch in and of itself is a game changer over a regular trunk from a sedan or coupe design (although as you mentioned it does help the overall balance), but also that hatchbacks, given the extra hatch space can be made with a more compact size with smaller wheelbase and still be practical enough to sell to the masses, whereas a small wheelbase sedan or coupe, given their design would need to sacrifice practicality to achieve that smaller wheelbase, ultimately creating a car that wouldn't make sense for the masses to buy. A good example of this is the Subaru BRZ vs the Hyundai i20. Their wheelbases are 5mm apart, virtually identical, but the i20 is a far more practical and sensible car for the masses and can easily sell the required amount of production vehicles whereas the BRZ is a full blown entry level sports car because nobody would buy such a car if it wasn't. Japanese brands also do not really have a big presence in the EU compared to their German and Korean counterparts (Toyota being somewhat of an exception) which ends up really exacerbating the first issue. Most of their international presence is in North America, and North American buyers simply do not want to buy compact cars. Europeans on the other hand, will absolutely buy subcompact hatchbacks, hence the i20, Polo, Yaris, etc being sold there. Smaller wheelbases are the name of the game, without it, you don't stand a chance. With that said, if Mitsubishi ever wanted to return to rallying, they are kind of in a unique position over Subaru in that they are pretty much the only car manufacturer left in North America with a subcompact hatchback in their lineup (the Mirage/Spacestar). They could probably enter it in no problem, although I doubt they would be willing to take on that venture purely for cost related reasons. Still, one can dream lol

    • I reckon it was just a cheaper spare or more easily available. Definitely an Evo under that wing ;)

      @Woifeh@Woifeh3 жыл бұрын
    • So that wing that’s commonly known on the evos is an extra add on customers were able to get from the SSS package (Sight, Spoiler and Sound) at the dealerships but the mid wing was also an option available best way to differentiate from lanevo and lancer are the wide body flares in the rear and the shape of the gas cap (lanevo = square, lancer = circle) keep in mind exhaust doesn’t always determine a lanevo and lancer because the ralliart has a dual exit exhaust compared to GTS
