  • As an Indian, I can tell you our country is also huge and multi culture and region like china. You find different language, people, and culture after travelling distance of every 150 km in India, Indian rural area is of different level compare to city, India also has large population like china so city area will be bustling and noisy n crowded.. But my advice will please don't travel alone like in china specially in some city and rural area because it's not safe for woman specially in night hours and also in some areas specially in rural areas of North India have very confined and conservative mentality mind specially for woman and some stereotype will see western young woman roaming alone in wild will be seen in very notorious eyes so never go alone in some place in India.. But apart all those India is very beautiful and vibrant country for visitors

  • Welcome to an Indian train, Katherine! That's not one of the premier trains so the level was quite low. The premier trains are better off, cleaner and little more organized than this one, but still a level lower than Chinese trains. We Indians can't do anything without being chaotic and disorganized, sorry to say. But that's how it is. Nevertheless, absolutely love your positivity, down to earth attitude toward different cultures and curiosity. Even though some things were not to your liking, you kept your smile and positive attitude! I really appreciate these characteristics. Hope you get to travel in India more soon and see the varied landscapes that we have here! Wam regards from India and can't wait to see you cycle around in China!

    • @@Mariobrownio1989 When did I comment on her experiences? I in fact appreciated her positive attitude and curiosity. I pointed out the quality of the trains and the chaos that we have in India. Any normal person, no matter how down to earth he/she is would get uncomfortable in such an environment. Looking out of filthy windows, passage ways totally clogged with oversized luggage, open doors on a running train (which is a security issue), could be adventurous to many but that definitely doesn't leave a very good impression on people who are not from here! China is way ahead of all of this.

It's better to travel in groups or with a companion. : It's not good to visit many places after 7PM : Some Past incidents suggest that Solo female travellers can't even trust their "male tour guides". : Being extremely friendly/friendly with male strangers may give them the "wrong Idea". Remember India is a very patriarchal semi feudalistic society and have an obsession with "White skin" girls. Many beliefs white girl are easy/Nympho.They may think you are inviting them to do "activities" with you. : South Indian states are relatively safer than North Indian states. : Anti Chinese racism/hatred is rampant especially in North India. So if your husband is coming with you it may be better to introduce him as Taiwanese or Singaporean to strangers. : Don't celebrate festival like Holi with strangers. Many won't waste a single chance to inappropriately touch/Grope girls : Don't ever tell strangers/ friendly strangers where you are staying. : Better to book only 3 star - 5 star hotel based on review. Same is true for travel agency/trains etc. Never travel in General compartments. Book sleeper coaches or AC, but it is better to go with AC coaches. Heading back into Mumbai had to change trains and it took a few attempts to get onto a train. I guess if you're not physically able and willing to fight for your spot it might be a nightmare. Away from the Mumbai region it was generally ok.

  • I love the trains in France. Once while traveling by train to the South of France out the window in the countryside I saw a young guy running at top speed not train top speed. Lol. He was being pursued by the police and ran into an old shed to hide..it was a mère 15 seconds but like an old silent movie which left you with all kinds of mystery..
