@@bangtanforlife2216 Agreed. Some of these pics are not correct in the context they're presented. Idols are people and their weight fluctuate do to various reasons. But definitely not accurate to say this is how different they are on video vs on stills.
Idol starvation is the reason why so many variety shows give out food as prizes and idols are so excited for it.
I've noticed that too. Huge red flag It's so sad how emotional they get about it
Especially if they loose…but there are times when they’ll get the prize anyway. I remember one show where half the members got to eat, so they shared with the other members (on the “loosing” team)
this is so true!!! I want to comment this one too!!! the losing team are so sad 😭😭😭
Omg so true. I always thought "but they are millionaire aren't they? Don't they eat that at house? Why the excitement?"
that is just sad and horrible . they do make a lot of money but have to win to have food.
I don't know what's scarier : the industry that make them diet like this or a good part of kpop fans that think most idols are not underweight but "naturally skinny".
I think both are problems, and of course if you point it out those fans starts to saying that it's not true and they all are naturally skinny
I think the fan delusion is a bigger problem. Corporations are always going to exploit idols. If it sells, they aren't going to change anything. If fans thought more critically about the information they're getting, they might come to reasonable conclusions. Instead they pretend their idol is the bestie and that their bestie would never lie. Like, these people aren't your friends. Anything that publicly comes out of their mouths was put there or approved by the label. Idols are commercial products designed to appeal. If fans stopped buying products from certain groups in protest, that might change things. Corporations only care about their bottom line.
Lol, also, thank you for mentioning the 'naturally skinny' phenomenon, isn't it such a coincidence that almost every idol is naturally skinny? Wow, what a funny coincidence /s

saw blackpink at coachella this year and the amount of people around me that commented on how skinny they are was INSANE. it was like a real wake up call to just how fucked up the standards are. at that point it’s not even bodyshaming - it’s genuine wonder at how they’re still alive.
Someday, I am wishing there will be a movie of what's really happening behind all the glamour of Kpop. The truth, I want the truth not the masked beauty. I want to know if there are forbidden or inhumane things the management forces their artists to do/eat etc. Coz how come they are very energetic on stage? Are they taking energetic pills which I don't know if there is something like that, or maybe energy drink? And sometimes I wonder how the girls legs are the same sizes all skinny, when compared to GG of other countries some are skinny some have thick legs. And all identical face shapes when in fact Koreans have round faces. I was shocked several times when I saw Koreans in our city, young girls or teenagers most have round faces, the shape is almost perfectly round, and when compared to women in my country they will have a round face if they are fat or older, but these girls has normal body shape but round faces.
When people call idols lazy sometimes I feel like they just don’t have the energy because of whatever it is they are doing to maintain their weight. Blackpink opening night in Seoul and when people said Wonyoung was doing NJ choreo lazy on purpose come to mind. I think this all the time though that they probably look even skinnier IRL.
Fat jealous westerners bodyshaming. Usual suspects
Lisa has gained significant weight throughout the years, whole rosé has answered to skinny shaming comments about how it's hard for her to gain weight but she's trying. Jisoo was fat shamed alot because of her wider rib cage when in reality she's just as skinny as the others and Jennie has lost of lot of weight this year.
I remember when Blackpink just started, Rosé was so pretty, full of health, and some people calling her "fat" that time. But she really looked great. And what now? They did awful plastic surgeries to her and she's awfully skinny. Also Jisoo looks much skinnier than before, and Lisa with Jennie too. Wtf? It's hard to watch on them. When i see them i think about concentration camps and it makes me sad.
It's not surprising, stylists give idols clothes that focus on their curves to make them look more appealing. But when the same idols wear everyday clothes, their real figure and skinniness comes out. Also a lot of female idols are severely underweight cause they're not allowed to gain the muscle needed to make up for the lack of fat and that's just as unhealthy as being overweight
I would think they want the girls to gain the muscle weight so they have better stamina and are healthier for their taxing tours/performances… it’s kinda scary how thin some are…
Sorry but this is a shit!!! The lisa one were two different years lol, in public was in 2019 she was so skinny back then, while in fancam was 2021 in her solo where she gained alot weight and muscle this year and become so healthy and she was literally fatshamed this year because the weight she gained!!! That's why #SistarBodyGoals
Agree. Though I don't know why she's getting "fatshamed" tho cause like, I actually honestly prefer her now than the skinny her. I'm not saying she wasn't charming or beautiful before, but you could clearly see she became more vibrant and cuter when she started gained weight(I love her cheeks) plus, she looked healthier. I mean, she didn't even deserve being fatshamed and nor does anyone. As a matter of fact, bodyshaming shouldn't *even* be a thing. As long as you're healthy physically, emotionally and mentally, then you're good. What's the need of following netizen or society's idealistic standards for celebrities when the price you have pay for beauty/perfection is your health or worse, your own life. Sure, visuals can sometimes be a must when it comes to appreciating beauty but that's like, *just* temporary. It's not permanent. We all get old. Like flowers, we bloom and then wither and die. What's more important is the beauty within. Not just the smarts, but the empathy, the humour, the charisma and the heart of a person: that's what real beauty is. Sigh

Not even curvy to be exact, besides the thighs ( which I live for it 😳 ) she actually got a standard k idol body, and that is still thinner than the average. Our beauty standard is crazy, like, if your weight is heavier than the last two digit of your height in metric system, at least one-third of people will consider it fat
She has the perfect body, thin with curves

Something that always crosses my mind is how 'fragile' these idols can look in real life. We all think they're really powerful on stage, and they are! But there is also a reality of them looking extremely skinny and fragile, sometimes it may just be in their genetics, but most of the time it is probably from the heavy work-load of a kpop idol and the extreme diets these people have to go through in order to fit the beauty standards. I just hope that these girls may be healthy and happy in their bodies, and I hope that the beauty standards can change from 'skinny is the only option of beauty' to 'your own beauty is what matters'.
i honestly don't appreciate the "skinny:fragile". honestly even beauty standard don't exist. they're still a dancers. they need to stay skinny for their choreo. strict diet is common on boxers, dancers, ballerina, and athlete. boxers have it worse than idols tbh. beeing skinny is essential for idols and lot of profession. also how are they fragile when they way more stamina and muscle than us tho... they probably can run 2 hours and not get tired. i read somewhere that they can do 100 pushup and not dying with exhaustion
@@merry6539 I can do 100 push-ups and run 2hrs without ever stepping a single foot inside a gym. I’m also skinny like them, and agree that skinny does not equal fragile…but some of them are definitely fragile. Also, you don’t have to be skinny to be a professional dancer. It depends on your own body muscle and endurance.
@@merry6539 no offense but you dont have to do all that to not die from exhaustion after 100 push ups lmao
@@merry6539 you don't have to be skinny to be a professional dancer... I'm not skinny but still a professional dancer...
@@merry6539 Comparing idols to boxers, ballerinas, and other athletes makes no sense. These professionals bulk up (i.e. build up muscle) and them being slim is a result of their low body fat : muscle ratio. Idols, on the other hand, especially female idols/idols whose concept is cute don't bulk for their career, and actually can't look muscular, because of the beauty standards and ideals of what women and "cute" looks like. I don't understand where you're coming from that "boxers have it worse than idols", because boxers (and it differs between the styles) make muscle and maintain it at a high rate, whereas idols actually aren't wanted to have visible muscle, but it's just a side-effect of their active careers. Because of this, if idols don't have enough muscle to support their physicalities, or aren't training them properly, their muscles with atrophy, and this causes so many other problems. Boxers (and other martial artists) slim down before a competition to enter a certain weight category, but that's for a week's duration and for burning excess fat accumulated during their off season. Idols are constantly expected to maintain a dangerously small figure, and they can't even go holiday periods without media updates of them being photographed, and this leads to them being constantly criticised online. Unless you actively compete as a boxer/martial artists, that's such an ignorant, ill-informed comment to make "tbh". I honestly don't appreciate the comparisons, when you've just complained about the comparison of skinny = fragile, which isn't what the commenter meant, despite all of them being skinny (which is such an out-dated, offensive term) not all look fragile, just that without the camera and other stage effects, their bodies look fragile. Being fragile in this context isn't offensive, they physically look weak, because they have no energy or muscle to support them. Also, having no body fat means that their joints would be so weak, because there's little cartilage to support them. That's what people mean; natural features of an active person are not visible on them, and that's extremely concerning when they're so active and their bodies are constantly demanded of something.
starving your idols is actually genius from a company's pov. not only do they stay skinny, they also lose their period so they find it easier to be active. also it's harder to get pregnant if you're severely underweight, so pregnancy scandals are also out of the way. i feel like a lot of companies use this strategy. scary.
Almost like an animal farm.
They dont treat idols like humans..
That's dumb lol. Literally just put them on birth control. What medieval strategy involves just making the woman emaciated?

I understand that it is a preference in SK for women to be very thin. But for those who are not naturally very thin this preference is dangerous. Is it a crime to have some fats? What's wrong with being medium sized? The next time you see an idol being criticized for being fat ( when they're clearly not) please defend them and remind them that them being healthy will always be what's most important.
Medium in Korea is anorexic in the rest of the world. It affects reproductive health.

“They actually find it hard to gain weight.” “It’s genetics” No… it’s not. This is how the industry is. They starve, work out more than 3 hours a days, and eat ice to be this skinny.
They're skinny, but some videos are old an example is IU and Yoona. Yes, they're are skinny but we know that IU has an eating disorder and she is healthier now, so is Yoona. Some idols have trouble gaining weight, Sunmi said she usually eats fast food in order to gain weight, but it's difficult for her. Even when she gained weight her fans said to her that she was fat... so it's very sad how standards are in Korea.
True
omg
but you still can’t deny the fact that some idols were born skinny, even when it don’t look like it.
Well, genetics play a part, but definitely not as big as everyone thinks. There are many people who wouldn't have debuted if they haven't become the size they're now. Some of the videos are old, but dieting and standards are definitely a problem, a lot of girls not only lose weight, but menstruation, receive migraines and anxiety. Actually my mother is as tall as most of them and weights the same, she's been doing absolutely fine for decades, but now loses stamina faster and was found a stomach demage dating since her teenage years. I've personality lost my period due to malnutrition and extreme lack of sleep (another problem idol trainees have)

Some of you in the comments are trying to "normalize" these idols' weight. Well, I love these idols too (very much) but I have to be honest and say that this is not healthy. Listen to what Amber Liu has to say about this topic, or how many of them are put on extreme diets by their managers, how most of them do only "liquid diets" (where they basically don't eat anything solid but only consume bevarages, bad bad bad for your health), how Jiyho from Twice was bodyshamed very publicly during a shoot because the photographer thought she was "too fat"....idols go on diets because they HAVE TO (these are the industry's standards) not because they WANT TO and this is by no means their normal or healthy weight. This goes for male idols too. And let's not forget the number of times idols have collapsed during performances because they were too overworked or on extreme diets or both. We must protect them, not agree and conform with the system that's destroying their health.

@@georgeoust I’m also naturally that way. I had to be given weight gain solutions growing up, but the original comment is correct. There’s also this thing called “ hip pads” used to make their waist look small and hips round on stage
Its make them look more like a woman instead of a nasty guy 💅, they also wear alot of bra pads and bottom padding (alot of it) for the same reasons since Far East Asian women naturally have TINY hips and bottom and bra size, so extremely flat that even MEN are curvier than east asian women ☠🚪

@@Area_GnC is not that I want to hurt them in any possible way. @@Gabriela-ir6zy I was not serious dude. I was just kidding.
I can’t even imagine what Somi looks like off-camera since she looks frighteningly thin on-camera. I didn’t think this was going to generate so much conversation but fine, let’s talk about it. Somi is a public figure by her own choosing; part of that is going to be discussion of her appearance. My comment isn’t malicious. I don’t place any “blame” on her. I know that this kind extreme restriction/extreme exercise is normal, publicly acceptable, and privately encouraged. She’s not the problem. If you compare her group photos to her solo photos, she lost a considerable amount of weight. If I knew someone in real life whose weight changed so dramatically in the same short amount of time, especially if they achieved it through three bananas a day? That would be legitimately concerning. I would be concerned about disordered eating. Y’all are almost certainly not old enough to remember Karen Carpenter, but the idea that it’s nobody’s business when any of these female celebs go from slim bodies to near-emaciation? It’s absurd. It’s dangerous as well. If your body looks like Somi’s, it always has, your doctor is not concerned about disordered eating or underlying medical issues, and you are healthy overall? Great. You deserve no comments or judgments from anyone else. But that’s not what goes on in Kpop and we all know it. Who was it in Twice who said they ate only ice and thought they were going to die - y’all that’s not ok. And I’m sure plenty of you have seen those compilations of managers grabbing food from idols. I am not attacking Somi as an individual with the right to pursue a career as she sees fit, just as any idol male or female. I would also love to see the actual portions of those meals of steak and wine and chocolate or whatever that she claims to eat (in between suggesting that people eat a acorn jelly because it’s the least gross no-calorie meal). I will never forget one of the passages in “Reviving Ophelia” when a teen girl dealing with anorexia told her therapist that she ate pizza and ice cream for dinner the night before, only to be immediately corrected by her mother as having eating one slice of pizza with the cheese scraped off and one teaspoon of ice cream. Again, not a personal attack on Somi as an individual but a rejection of the acceptance of things like when Park Bom was called the “Lettuce Genius” for openly crash dieting by eating little more than iceberg lettuce and POSTING IT ON ME2DAY. Off-camera photos like these are important in order to lift the veil and show what women on extreme calorie restriction and intense exercise regimens look like without the hip pads and stage lighting. I was a kid at a time when models were expected to look like junkies (no, this was literally the aesthetic of “heroin chic”), so any of y’all saying it’s rude to comment on an idol’s appearance? Maybe what’s actually “rude” is constructing an extremely misogynistic entertainment industry that reinforces these behaviors in the first place.
Agree, but at least she has a six pack/actual muscle
She said she's happy with her weight and very healthy, can we stop commenting on it negatively, I can't imagine how she feels
Let's not forget that she's super tall so it contributes to her skinny appearance.
she has the perfect body, much better than scary overweight bodies like demi lovato!
@@lilo3310 Because she said she was healthy doesn't mean she's right. Lisa is shorter than her and weighs more than her. Check the BMI calculator to see if it's healthy. Somi was very healthy during her debut, not now. Sometimes you can even overdo it with exercises and it is unhealthy for organisms. If the fact that she is underweight is called healthy, then how are we to call people who have a good weight? Are they fat? It is not without reason that there are limits of weight that are called healthy and unhealthy. Starving yourself can even lead to d3@th I don't like watching idols who are suffering. Since she has muscles, she should weigh more, not less.
The camera does add 10 pound as they say, I remember an older actress saying actresses and female idols in general are like sticks when you meet them up close. I can’t even imagine what they go through on daily basis

Wonyoung seems to be very underweight. She’s taller therefore she needs more weight on her body. She can’t be the same weight as the shorter members, it puts her bmi in the underweight category . She just doesn't eat meat and snack, and doesn't try to supplement the lack of protein and carb in her diet. This actually makes idols' worries about their weight make a lot more sense to me. I've heard so many times an idol expressing that they want to or should lose weight and I always think "you really don't, you look skinny to me" but seeing this, they really do look not-as-skinny on stage because of the lighting, camera angles, etc in relation to how they actually look in a normal setting. They must always have that fact in their minds and make a mental note of "I need to get my weight to where I think it should be, and then a little more" because of it.
At 0:43 she looks so underweight. There is no definition to her body at all it’s scary
Yoona needs a hug and all the reassurances that she will always look amazing and that her diet was made by people who don't know her body nore own it.
IU's story about her body figure is really sad too, she was literally refused by the companies when she was just starting in the music industry just because of her body figure before
I've always thought how this could impact their lives as women. I often think about if they even get their periods, or if when they're older and want to be pregnant all of this underweight stuff when they were younger wouldn't affect it, or if they would have trouble gaining weight afterwards. Ashley who was in Ladies Code said in the podcast Get Real that she didn't get her period for a year while being an idol, because of the diets and stress it gave her. One thing that I noticed, besides how scary that is to a lot of people: 1. Fancams are closer, not at a distance. Things get bigger the closer they are, obviously. 2. They’re not dancing. In a lot of those dances, they’re putting their knees closer together, pretty much touching or crossing. That will create an illusion as well, considering they’re not standing still. Some of these aren’t just being skinny, they’re actually scary. And I don’t want to judge or bodyshame, and I’m not a medical health professional who can definitively say it’s unhealthy, but it seems like we’re just looking at a dangerously low weight, even for their body types.
Dude, c'mon, I understand you're not trying to bodyshame, but calling someone a "skeleton" specifically the K-Pop idols you “want to support” is just the rudest thing ever. You know it’s the oldest thing in the body shaming book, so why would you call them that? There are so many better ways to tell people about them without using words that are specifically made to harm them emotionally, so why didn’t you use those words instead? Not to mention, it’s extremely harmful to their mental health. They’ll go by "one extreme" to the other in no time if people like you don’t watch what you’re saying because of how judgmental society is today. There’s no issue with saying that someone looks unhealthy, but saying that "they look like skeletons/a skeleton” is just harmful and terrible. I know you’re trying to promote healthiness, and I’m glad that you’re advocating for it. But what you’re really doing is promoting insecurity among K-Pop idols (as if the industry wasn’t already cruel enough) and masking it as "concern." Please, please word your comments better next time, I beg of you.

this is why i like jeongyeon rn, bc she looks so much more alive than the super skinny kpop idols,,, everyone is beautiful tho !
No literally the way people say that “camera adds 10 pounds” imagine how healthy and average she looks off camera omg
@@poopmama Even on camera, she looks healthy and average. If hope she is too off cam
yoona and iu's one shocked me
Bvndit Seungeun actually really scared me
The “real life” one shows them at their lightest state while the “camera” one is the opposite. Cameras can’t change a persons appearance by so much. It cannot make a thigh that is two parallel lines look curvy.
yeah, i agree. to really see the difference between camera and real life we would actually have to see them in real life lol otherwise its just a different camera and a different angle.
A lot of idols wear pads to give their hips and thighs volume. Best example for this is Jenni from BP. The cushions can change the shape from the outside and the inside.
They literally can.
This is the problem with this video, The ‘real life’ and ‘camera’ ones are taken at two different times/ weights for the idols hence the confusion lol
Many people who hv been to concerts have said they r way thinner than they look on camera.
This is just so sad.... These agencies make the idols work so hard even after their brilliant achivements..... It's just really sad
Low key their legs are like twigs, they're freaking me out
They all look collectively equal to 5 pounds in weight after watching this
Moral of the story "don't believe on social media's and celebrities life just appreciate their talent but don't dream to be like them" Edit : I was not talking about their success and their talent. I was just telling this all beauty is make up and surgeries the God who made them is the same God who made us but people after watching celebrities with so much grooming makeup extreme painful diets and surgeries they start feeling insecure about themselves and goes in depression. I always give priority to their talent and their kindness. We should appreciate their talent not their faces. This video also proof the fake ness of the social media. That's my point.
why
why cant we dream to be like them??????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@yaminsalehin7004 Their companies forced them to stay "skinny", they might eat in an unhealthy way. Staying too skinny is bad for your health too! Also, there is something call "plastic surgery" which will make you look completely different, it's not healthy as well.
?? what ??? it's just about weight issues . people said camera adds 10 pounds, so if they want to have beautiful pictures , they have to so so so skinny
@@cloudenee Plastic surgery doesn't make a person looks completely different. It really diff from every person and it's not that bad as long as it is not an unhealthy obsession.
as someone who’s goal is to look like a kpop idol, not me feeling even worse now knowing what they look in real life 💀💀
As if they look healthy in camera
Just be yourself and follow kfashion if you want. Just don't do what these crazy people are doing with their body. EAT HEALTHY and abundantly. Remember korea has really bad standards... Like unrealistic. just be you
You are saying as if they look healthy on stage performance and MV lo
Please don’t, these women are placed under extreme scrutiny and restrictions for what they can and can’t eat and It’s horrible and unhealthy. I’m sure the last thing they’d ever want is one of their precious fans falling into the same boat, It’s extremely unhealthy
The song is by 들고가 Listen Somin - Chung Ha Gotta Go cover.
Those photos are on from their first few years as an idol...
