Calling Jake Heenan's terminally ill mum a fucking wanker and making a racist comment about not being his brother? Horsing around at a press conference before the RWC final? For people outside the sport the way this guy is lionised within it is everything that's wrong with rugby. Sanctimonious, hypocritical, if the bloke was a footballer we'd be going off on him.

  • My dad's family is named Marler. They lived in the US (Missouri and before that, Tennessee), but were originally from Norfolk, England. The "marler" spread the marl on farmer's fields. Marl is a soft rock which "sweetens" the soil. I'm sure they were also farmers themselves, my dad's family were. There are Marlers throughout England, probably. Joe Marler looks like my fad's family, big and burley and very funny. He reminds me of us. Love him!
