Dragon's Dogma is a game that I see mentioned a lot in comments on my videos so when Capcom asked me to play and make a video reviewing the sequel, I took the plunge. These are my thoughts after a few hours of play on the PS5 version of the game.

I could definitely see the game have some potential for challenge runs. If you really want to torture myself, one that comes to mind is whether or not you can beat the game with only throwing items such as boulders, enemy corpses, etc.
So you're telling me that if you eat spoiled food out camping, you'd be ill in tent?

Can you beat Dragon's Dogma 2 "normally" when?
One time playing D&D, the DM decided that during a caravan trip there was going to be an ambush. Some gnolls, an ogre, and a goblin or ten. Well, me being the barbarian, I charged up to the ogre and thanks to a lucky crit cut him in half with one attack. And now I'm not allowed to play wizards, rogues, OR barbarians...
I also remember something like that. The group stood in front of a door, obviously magically trapped. Dwarven Logic: Our Vampire is magic resistant. Let's throw the vampire against it and look what happens ;).
Play war domain cleric. Show them what real damage looks like
I feel like a challenge run with no magic is the most immediately difficult challenge run but also the most obvious

What I've learnt is that DD2 is very frontloaded. It can fizzle out fast if you think too much about some of the design decisions.

I made an ogre walk off a cliff as a trickster. And yet people tell me this game is bad.

Soulsborne games ran that way until the PS4 Pro.
Honestly, "if you liked Dragon's Dogma 1, you'll like this one too" is basically the gist of it. It's more of the same game, both the good and bad. So far I've been loving it, and while there's a couple of annoyances that I have to reacclimate to, none of it has been frustrating to me. Overall, it's a game that isn't for everyone, but if you can get into it, you'll have a lot of fun. That said, PC players beware, there's a few technical problems on the PC version at the moment. Whether this is because of the Denuvo drm, or just generally poor optimization, it is an issue. I'm playing on PS5 though and haven't had any framerate problems or crashes thus far, but I've heard quite a few PC players have issues in big cities for sure. Other than that, be aware that just like the first game, fast travel is very limited, and there's only one save file. Despite what some people are claiming, you can manually delete your save, but be sure you have cloud saves off when you do so or your system may just redownload your save, (and if you do it too often too quickly, the PC version's drm may have issues). They are planning on adding in a new game option to the menu in the next update from my understanding though. One other thing I've seen people complain about a lot, is that there are microtransactions available in the store page, and I will say flat out DO NOT BUY THEM. You can get everything in there in game very easily with one exception, (a placeable fast travel waypoint that is a bit rare in game), and there is absolutely no reason to buy them unless you just really have no patience for playing the game. The items available from the delux edition are very minor and there's equivalent versions available that are only slightly less functional. In short, again, there is no reason to buy any of the microtransactions. It's just Capcom being Capcom and sticking pointless stuff in the store for people to buy if they really want to waste their money. They do that with every game they put out these days.
This^^ the PC users BEWARE part of your comment is honestly a good touch. I can see people playig it well on PS5 but there's so many known issues for PC users that they should either hold off on the game or just don't play it at all if they know their pc can't handle it (like me because my rig is mid and upgrading is too expensive for me to be able to just play one game lol). I'd also like to add that there was a known ban or suspension I think of someone manually deleting their save file on PC so people jave to be aware of that too... Imo PC players, if you really want to play the game, just wait a few more months so they can patch everything. Sadly gonna be a waste for paying full price, unless bought on sale, but that's the nature of gaming lately especially for buying new game entries.

In regards to this, from what I recall, the post talking about that got misshared quite a bit in one regard, in that the person who had gotten banned had deleted and restarted their game several times, (if I recall, it was at least five times), in a fairly short time span. This caused the denuvo drm to falsely flag it for one reason or another. Still worth keeping a mind about, but it's unlikely to affect most users. I'll also say that while the PC version definitely has issues, I do have several friends who play on PC and other than framerate problems in big towns, they haven't really had much in the way of real issues. Regardless, if you're on the fence about the game, or have an older model computer, it's definitely a good idea to hold off a bit until bug fixes come out to help the performance. Then again, that statement being true for most "big" game releases on PC these days is a big part of why I tend to get most games on console and only bother with older games or games I intend to mod for the most part on PC.
I was a huge fan of the first one and the sequel doesn’t disappoint me

I was hoping for more, not just more of the same. The combat with flying enemies- I’m looking at you, harpies - is still terrible. Camera, when battling large enemies seems even worse than the first game (because of more trees?). The overweight mechanic is also still 💩 I hate it when games actively encourage you to collect everything, and then ‘punish’ you for it. The graphic improvement means that, at least in the forests, there’s more clutter, making enemy corpses harder to find and loot after a battle… I’ve also had ambushes where by the time I can find an enemy, the pawns have pretty much dealt with it.

I've heard from a reliable source that this game is aggressively monetized, has stability issues, lacks a second save file and Capcom isn't showing much interest in fixing the issues. Like a lot of games, probably not going to touch it unless it happens to show up on game pass.
They're going to add a new save but idk about them addressing stability yet

There is no "aggressive monetization" most of the stuff you see as a microtransaction is found in game or earned. Those were put in there as malicious compliance by the devs because corporate wanted a way to milk money.
@@bladedude40 Yea, that is aggressive monetization. Either they intentionally keep the drop rates painful to push you to spend money on a single player game, or they are preying on uninformed people. There is no upside on this, that isn't malicious compliance. It is profiteering plain and simple and should be prosecuted as such. As consumers, we should not put up with it.
@@gaberielpendragon Yea no you have no idea what your talking about nor know what dragons dogma is. Everything they have as a microtransaction is easily earned in game. Rift crystals are earned when someone hires your pawn. The rings are easily found in shops found them in about 3 hrs. Ferry stones and port crystals being hard to find is par for the course because the game encourages you to walk everywhere. The ones you buy for real money are one time purchases a single ferry stone is nothing and an extra port crystal when the game gives you 10. Got three for just doing story missions. This is nothing new for Capcom games the microtransactions don't mean shit you. They offer no advantage. If want to have a dragons dogma experience without buying 2 get Dragons Dogma dark arisen. That still holds up to this day. Do everyone a favor and get off the hate train

Does it still cost to create a new character?
It still costs to edit it, even though it's free at a certain point in game so it's baffling for the dlc to even exist.
no mention of the microtransactions? like pay real money to fast travel, or the pay to change character creation?
They're inconsequential since you can buy everything in game with in game currencies.

The game's not so bad when it doesn't crash 14 times on a character creator and another 10 randomly... I would say that If I got past the tutorial without it crashing as well. I have no idea how to properly rate it since my experience with this game was not even past that so for me, not recommended.

@@DingoFlexa Dude, it's the current gen pc and it still crashes.
@JacobTheCroc I've only got a 3060 ti and a core i7 , no crashes, and runs at 60 fps except for in the capital where it'll go to 45 due to large npc count. Optimization is definitely an issue, but there's most likely some steps you can try to get it running, if you haven't already. Id suggest looking some up. Make sure it's on an SSD and that you've optimized the game before attempting any character creation or gameplay. Do not exceed the dedicated memory in your graphics card. There is an indicator in game that tells you what you're at.
@@DingoFlexa if a game makes me have to fix it myself, then it's not great, you know. It just shows that the Devs didn't put much care into it at all and it keeps on crashing no matter what. Look at the reviews, similar problems.
@JacobTheCroc the devs put alot of care into it. Crunch time and dead lines are imposed by higher ups, so don't fault the devs who clearly put a lot of love into this game, I understand you can't play it. So you've yet to see that. But it is most certainly a labor of love that was forced out early by the holders of the I.P. And to be honest, 95% of the people who can't play it likely have hardware that has no business even trying to run the game. I have 4 friends who play it as well, and none of us have crashed or had issues aside from a minor drop in frames in the capital where all you do is accept quests. Just find it funny how 5 people with varying hardware have no issues.
