2025 Mazda CX-70 review by The Straight Pipes. The CX-70 is probably(It has the same powertrain as the CX90 but no one confirmed the numbers) putting down 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque from a 2.5L phev 4 cylinder and 340 horsepower 369 lb-ft torque from a mild hybrid 3.3L Turbo Inline 6 cylinder (319 hp on regular). We don't have the price yet but would you take it over a CX-90?

  • After selling Mazdas for 2 years I am both not surprised and disappointed this is just a 2-row CX-90. They have the perfect platform to provide a real value proposition in the luxury/premium CUV space and they do this. I also don't understand the lack of investment in like the wagon space. A4 and A6 all-roads, E wagons, V60 and V90 and their cross country versions, and the Outback all are basically impossible to have in stock(Subaru probably the easiest). Mazda's strategy as small company to lean into a more focused luxury/premium market placed them in such a unique niche in between economy and luxury brands and brought them so much attention especially during the pandemic when they fell square in the middle for value. They have a real opportunity with this platform to continue to take business from both sides with actually interesting vehicles. This could've been a killer X5 competitor and now it just feels like their lineup is bloated with cookie cutter cars

    • @@s.patterson5698 I'm positive it has everything to do with playing it safe since they are a much smaller company. Even on the most expensive CX-90 the invoice to MSRP difference is less than $2000 which means they really have to make every unit count for them. I spoke with the team that came with the CX-90 since they did the media debut in San Francisco where I was selling them. One guy was a product engineer on the project and I asked if anything cool would be coming on this platform like a wagon or sedan maybe and he told me "I wish, the market builds cars not us"

      @datuthemechkeynic@datuthemechkeynic3 ай бұрын

      @differencemaker242@differencemaker2423 ай бұрын
    • @@differencemaker242 they don't. Even on a fully loaded CX-90 the invoice to MSRP difference is less than $2000. They build these very close to cost so they definitely have to make each unit matter. However, if it's supposed to compete in the segment below the 200 inch 3 rows (regular highlander, X5, XC-60 etc) the CX-70 is too big. They already make the perfect sized competition in the CX-60 overseas on the same platform. Which is modular btw for this exact reason, to adapt it to different size and powertrains.

But if it's almost identical to the CX-90 with a similar price then I'd rather buy CX-90 and have the third low folded down. At least I have the third low option when I need it every now and then. • All the people crying about this seem to not get that the CX-90 is already on the small side for a real full time 3-row. That 3rd row is more for short trip emergencies, not full time 3-row use. In which case offering a 2 row that loses the extra weight of the 3rd row and 3rd row safety features, but gains a flat loading floor with a ton of extra storage is a great option for many families. Could they have just offered this as a separate trim for the CX-90, sure, probably. But I don't care what the badge says, I care what the overall design is. And a Turbo inline-6, with a double wishbone front, no CVT, with a real transmission, a rear biased AWD powertrain layout with a ton of space, and great driving dynamics is a very unique offering at their price point.

  • What a huge mess, glad I got my CX-5 last week as it seemed to be just the right size. I was thinking of holding out to see if the cx70 would be a true mid-size like a Nissan murano, Honda passport, Subaru outback, Toyota venza, which Mazda was lacking in it's lineup. The fact that all of the above competitors aren't the same size as their three-row crossover equivalent is very telling, as there's a need for a proper mid-size as well as a proper three-row crossover that's larger. I'm not sure why Mazda didn't do the same, so that the second row in a mid-size could be just as roomy as the first and comparable to the competition in its class. The idea is not to have a boat to drive around with your two row mid-size crossover when it comes to parking, even if it does handle better than the competition. Totally happy I got my cx-5, and it was partially on listening to Yuri's justification for it when he got it for his family.

    • Mazda CX-7 ? I never knew Mazda has that on their SUV line up before. All I know are CX-3, CX-4 (China region only), CX-5, CX-8 (Japan and some Asia region only) and CX-9 for sure. After they launched the top of the line new CX-90, probably they gonna make an ultra luxury which is CX-100 next. Who knows.....

      @henrichandrew@henrichandrew3 ай бұрын
    • @@henrichandrew yep the CX-7 was in production from 2006-2012. I had a 2009 Grand Touring Model with torque-split AWD. It had the same turbo 2.3 LTR engine from the Mazda speed 3. The early CX-7 with the turbo had a few issues. The had recalls on the AC compressor seizing up. Also there were known issues with the turbos in these SUVs. I blew 2 turbos in 1.5 years they replaced them without issue under warranty. Then a year later after the second turbo. My engine trew a rod through the crankcase in front of my job. There was a whole in the engine block. Mazda replaced it with a brand new engine out of warranty. I only paid $400 in labor cost and they paid the rest of the $6800 bill. I called corporate to make that happen.

    • @@bobcat18us that was a unforgettable experience. Anyway I come to remember the Mazda CX-7. I was wrong, the CX-7 was also launched in my country. The first family member of Mazda CX line up. Back then, the CX-7 was a very good design and attractive looking, I suppose it also still seen as that now days. The first Mazda SUV with Turbocharger engine, but the issue was the fuel consumption. In my country, the CX-7 also know as Mazda RX-8 SUV version, since both their design very similar. This Mazda CX-7 quite successful, so Mazda made his big brother CX-9 and powered with 3.7 L V6 engine. The most successful historical milestone of CX series after they lauched CX-5 with Skyactiv first generation engine. This's how the Mazda CX series story began. And now Mazda's evolving and becoming luxurious car maker Brand with their new generation of CX series.

  • the fact that only the top-trim Turbo S models have lane tracing is such a huge oversight on Mazda's part. even if they are a "driver's" brand, 1. this is a boat of an SUV and doesn't handle all that better than anything else in the segment, and 2. lane tracing/centering is still a feature that all of its competitors have standard, and many vehicles that cost tends of thousands of dollars less also have standard

  • I see LOTS OF CX70 vs. CX90 comparison videos coming in few months. I’m curious how different will it drive from cx90. This could also be a chance where Mazda can give CX90 a soft suspension and more comfort and give athleticism to the CX70 to set them apart from each other in some ways. One is a fun family hauler and other is a fun sporty version with more personality and fun colours.

It will recognize me, and tell me welcome, but won't actually change to my profile. I was told that this is a known issue and they will be fixing it. It has been a few months now though.
