Today, I'm diving into my Mercedes 190e 2.5-16V, a car that I've owned for nearly a year and the last few months it's been running like a bag of s**t. So I'm off to see the team at Jtech Automotive - fingers crossed they can pinpoint the issues without breaking the bank.
But that's not all! My Macau Blue E30 M3 convertible needs some TLC too, especially its interior that's seen better days.

Getting rid of the CIS and going ITB + Standalone was the best thing I ever did. The total cost isn't actually that far off what you could throw at the CIS to get it running right anyway! My 16v starts hot or cold. Idles solid as a rock and makes more power. Appreciate the values of these might stop people going down this route but technically it could go back to stock should you wish. Glad you've got this one sorted!
I almost did EFI on mine but opted for stock refurbishment for value later. Runs like new (mostly) still have 2 new pumps to go on and new BOSCH fuel accumulator
Honestly efi has a lot of advantages like knock detection etc. If one wants to, the best thing about it is, that you are able to even keep the cis optic...my 103 2.6 will get an efi too
most people who build na engines do efi straight away, it shouldn't be no difference with these. I know allot of the mercedes engines from this era see good power increase with EFI

My 2.5-16 had the same issue. Mercedes had my car for 3 weeks, got a bill for £980, didn’t really get to the running that well, that was 15 years ago. I mistakenly put super high octane petrol in it. Completely different car.

Mine was the same, complete new refurbed CIS was the key, the fuel distributors are finicky, bit of crap in there and runs like shite.
That wasn't a good cold start. It struggled then started. It should be a crisp clean start.
Change sparkplugs, fuel acumulator, ignition leads, cap, arm, air flow potentiometer, valve steam seals

I sold one last year , it had tank sorted and fuel pump etc This thing needs a older Merc tech to go through it . I made £4000 on mine and only bought it with profit off a e34 M5 I made a big pile on . Understanding a recession may be coming I put the money in the bank and couldn’t help it I bought a free cosworth Sierra and now I couldn’t care less about the economy I’ve got a free Cosworth 😂
If its cutting out at idle when your coming to junctions and you have to keep blipping the throttle to keep it running. Change the throttle microswitch at the end of the throttle cable it tells the ECU your foot is off the throttle and to keep fuelling the engine. You can get them from Mercedes and its a easy job worth changing the throttle cable at the same time another easy job. I did this on both the 190E's i've owned one being a 2.6 manual the other a 2.5-16v like yours but in 199 blue black.

Indeed a knob he was🙈 Watching this reminds me of my buddies 190 AMG here in south Africa..its an original car and no.50 of 50 Its a 2.3 8v When i sat in it for the 1st time i was surprised by the power delivery..lol definitely not a fast car..but still good
Haha… that driver definitely was a proper knob! These cars were quick in period but not by modern standards. Nonetheless, an enjoyable drive 👍🏽
Flat face alloys are the only wheels for a W201. Forget AMGs :((
blue smoke means valve seal and piston rings issue...not so cheap repairs sadly
Not always rings or seals. A good tune up , and oil service , new breathers, often gets rid of blue smoke.
throw that 16v sht out and put m104 3.2. Mine hasnt failed for...13 years since swap which actually baffles even me, basically all costs I ever had was changing fluids! And I have been daily driving it and been on track days many times!

I don't think there are any mechanics local to us who could have got this car running right (and we know quite a few)!
Change the colour of the gaddi yaar😂
Ayrton Senna and Niki Lauda drove the 2.3 version in the same colour back in the 80's making it an iconic car ... changing the colour would be sacrilege!

BTW that Fiat driver at the island thought you were going around the island because you were in the right hand as if going around the island BUT you turned Left into the Right lane... So he/she wasn't aas you cussed "A Dickhead".!. Turning left should be in the Left inner lane going into Left lane. So come on...no need for the unjustified GUSSA.!.😊
Thanks Bal - btw the A312 is a dual carriageway with two lanes joining from the roundabout. I was in the correct lane as I was not indicating to go right - common practice on this roundabout. Even if I was going right this driver would still have cut me up. No GUSSA... just clarifying my position 😊🤣

You've had the car for a year....change the engine soundproofing hood pad already. Looks ugly with the hood up.
New soundproofing ordered and will be fitting it very soon 👍🏼
