  • I've been in northern Minnesota when the temperatures get below -30ºF. Locals are advised that it is too risky to keep the snowplows working because if there is a breakdown they can't count on being able to get anyone out to help them. People are advised not to go out unless they have a serious emergency. The stores are all closed and about the only thing that remains open is the hospital. Most people actually do stay home. I also learned that propane even stops flowing at around -40º so you need to have an alternative source of heat.

    @bobmcghee3116@bobmcghee3116 Жыл бұрын
  • The train shot actually was average. There wasn't even enough snow on the track/ground to even warrant putting on the snow plow car in front of the engine, and those snow plows come in two different types, wone with snow blowers in them, and ones with simple blades on them. the wones with blades on them can get HUGE, the blades stand around 12 to 15 feet high, and that not measuring their height when they are on the rail truck wheels just the blade height. Some of the older models, which are still in use in some portions of Canada can reach twenty feet high. These snow plow cars were and are still used mostly in the Rockies, Eastern Canada has been known to pile up snow higher than what the mountains in the west can have, simply because the nature of the Great Lakes region for precipitation. They are by no means unacquainted with massive snow falls.

  • I have a friend who drives semi-trucks on the North Slope in Alaska and he says that your engine won't freeze up in a blizzard unless the air filter gets clogged with snow. The way to prevent that is to take the air filter element out of the air filter box and put it inside the vehicle. The engine will suck in any snow that gets in the engine compartment and it will just run through the engine the way humid air will. In a blizzard there is no dirt to damage the engine so removing the air filter won't harm the engine.

  • That "blizzard" was not much of one, it was barely more than gale force winds blowing the snow around, I've been in blizzards that dropped four feet of snow on the ground in just under three hours, so more than a foot of snow per hour, and I was caught out in that in my car, and still made it back home, I had to hang my head out the window to make sure I stayed on the road and drove very slowly and it took me four hours to get home in a drive that normally takes 45 minute to make in normal driving conditions. But we made it back, but it was night time and you couldn't see any further than three feet in front of your vehicle. Fortunately the snow flakes were Huge and falling slowly, so it could have been much worse, we were actually thinking we would have to stop at a road junction and sit out the blizzard but I had no desire to let my car get buried in a snow bank that would form around it if we didn't keep moving.

  • The person operating the train is the engineer (or driver), not the conductor. The engineer is the one operating the horn on the locomotive. The bells and lights as the crossing operate automatically. This is not the first train-related video you've done where you mistakenly call the person operating the train the "conductor."
