TIPS on removing cracked tempered glass screen protector THEN replacing it (invisible shield liquid)

2019 ж. 21 Мау.

If you’ve got a tempered glass protector on your phone but now it’s broken, this video shows how to safely remove the old broken tempered glass screen protector. Take a knife and lightly work it in around the edge, then continue to go deeper and deeper until eventually the old screen protector will pop off. Then clean the clear glass on the front of your phone and replace the broken screen protector with a new one.

  • Thank you for this tutorial! Glad I had an exacto knife on hand, however I do think anything with a sharp edge would have worked to get underneath. Very thankful for the time you took to film and post this!

  • You shouldn't use an Xacto knife to remove that because there's always the risk your hand will slip and you will gouge the screen. I've found a toothpick works great and you don't risk scratching your screen. Also, if you don't have access to a hair dryer to heat up the screen for a few seconds, place the phone face down in the palm of your hand and press down with your free hand just enough so that the entire screen comes into contact with your hand. Hold it like that for about 30 seconds and you should have no trouble starting the removal of the old tempered glass. I highly recommend starting at the opposite end to begin removal if your protector is cracked. Go slowly and slide the toothpick with gentle pressure. You'll see it begin to let go. Don't rush it and you'll be able to cleanly remove it. Don't panic if it starts to crack more. Just continue with slow, steady pressure. Once it starts coming off, you can grasp it between your thumb and forefinger and tug gently and watch it let go of the screen. The tempered glass is stuck to something like a laminate film that will help hold the shattered pieces together.

  • NO! Lay the glass in position and use the tape for hinges. I use Scotch tape too. Then hinge it open and remove the protective sheet. Drop the new glass back in position and it's done. Everything must be super clean, the smallest dust particle causes a bubble.

    • Well that rules out doing this in my house, your house, his house, and 80% of America because of the usual amount of dust and humidity in the air. Just be careful not to touch and dirty the screen before applying the glass. If you do, no big deal, just peel it off and wipe it again with isopropyl. A good screen protector should be able to peel off within the first few seconds of adhering before permanently setting under room temperature

  • Big things that are shipped palletized often have strapping around the outside; it’s often yellow, but there is some that’s white. Anyone who has tried to cut that stuff can tell you how tough it is, yet it’s incredibly thin. I don’t think I’ve seen any that was any more than about an inch wide. I don’t know where you would go to buy something like this, or what you would pay for it, but for something like this screen protector removal, it would be perfect. You can also cut or melt some strategically placed holes in it and mount it in a scraper blade or razor blade handle. My point is, it is considered trash and coming across some in a dumpster or in with other construction debris is quite common so next time you do, snatch some if you can, because I have found that for some tasks, where you need some thin, tough, non-conductive, non-scratching material, you just can’t beat this strapping, and you can get it for free, but you need it when you need it, and you find it when and where you find it, so grab some while you CAN so you can keep some handy. Just keep your eyes open as you go through your day, and let it be known through Facebook or Twitter or whatever you use that you’re looking for some. I’ll bet you have some in no time.

AFTER you get each corner peeled off you pick your favourite corner and slowly start lifting the screen protector not putting any resistance or strength and it will slowly come off in about 15 seconds with nothing breaking and no glass falling anywhere.

  • The adhesive that kept the screen protector attached to the screen of my phone has dried out. This means it's hard and dry, and when I try to get a knife (or anything's) edge under there, it just chips off hard, powdered pieces of a glass-like substance (probably the tempered glass). How do I get it off? It will take FOREVER to get it off via this method!!! 🤯😱😔

  • Just use dental floss to get the old protector off. Slides right through with no damage or scratch/cut risk.
