Theft at both domestic and global levels using militarism and financial extortion. Unite liberals, independents and leftists to replace u$a's elites with the socialistic models of public ownership of utilities, core businesses; worker ownership of large corporations, expelling private monies from politics. Make reparations to correct a history of theft of domestic communities and nations u$a has exploited. That's fulfilling the representative govt dreamed of / conceived of by the best thinkers of the day. Corporations are the new church ... and both serve elitism, which destroys everything it touches.

Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION! A shocking sad truth. 😔 In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people. Notorious global cardinal crimes the Christian West has committed, and benefited a great deals, such as Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is notorious Colonization still lingering on, may I ask? 😔

  • I was a teenager during Obama’s tenure. I remember hearing his ideas on healthcare and thinking “why are people booing this?” “Why are people hating this?”. Obama did make some major mistakes during his time, he should have gathered from the first meeting with Republicans that they were corrupted by partisanship and would simply oppose him out of greed rather than principal. He should have walked out of that meeting and made it about how he presented his plan, but they didn’t even want to listen to it to help the American public. He should have been tough on the banks after the bonus fiascos. I respect the man for trying to work with people, but unfortunately people did not want to work with him. And from his presidency, the Republican Party learned that the best thing for themselves (not the American people) was to stonewall everything, yell the loudest, and throw tantrums to get what they want. Hell, the ACA is still here today because most Americans can’t survive without it- and it’s gutted compared to its original scope! Remember when the Republicans said that no God-fearing American would stand by a socialist institution? When they have, and they love it. The Republican Party is not the party of conservative idealism, it’s the party of crony political and capitalist families that wish to rule for the sake of ruling rather than helping this country be the best it can be.

Economically, the United States has acted only egomaniacally over the past 25 years and has in no way borne its international and global responsibility. Only Trump said it. CLinton has given up on Europe and only said that the USA would now devote itself to the Asian market. Only then will a nation lose its position as the 1st economic world power.

    • Lol. Obama failed on everything you gave him credit for. He let ISIS form by leaving Iraq too soon, and he was basically a proxy for the big banks during the financial crisis. And he did so little good stimulus that it held back economic growth for half a decade.

    • Save us from ourselves? I don’t know what you mean. I’m gay, was glad to get marriage rights during his presidency and see myself as an equal. However after 8 years of identity politics I wanted to see moderates in power. Just some politician who could bring both sides back to regularity and agreement over most issues. Instead we got extremism from both front runners. The outcomes of 2016 and 2020 has led to more identity politics and division amongst ourselves. What I wish this country would come back to the middle ground where there isn’t so much division over identity politics. It doesn’t matter who you are when we are one America, united and free in a government by the people of the people and for ALL the citizens as one, indivisible nation with liberty and justice for all. Can we get back to that instead of how many boxes a person checks?

    • how did he "save us from ourselves," exactly? That's meaningless. He's overrated by corporate/centrist Dems, ofc underrated by republicans (but genuinely who gives af what they think about anything?), and rated as extraordinarily mid from the progressives he conned into thinking he was gonna help "Main St." How many Wall St/corporate fatcats did he stuff in his admin? Ppl forget that it was Bush who bailed out the banks, he just did it at the end of his term so ppl associated it most w Obama, but he failed to hold any of those ppl accountable, bc everyone in his admin was from Citigroup. He wasn't as bad at anything as any republican would be, and the Iran Deal was fantastic, but it's not saying anything whatsoever to be better than repubs. He squabbled a supermajority, had he not pivoted to the center and tried to get repub voters, but legislated like the progressive he presented as during his campaign, we'd be looking at an entirely difft landscape rn. He was virtually a republican, at least fiscally.

  • I think PBS missed , deliberately or otherwise, an important plot point that was covered in some other documentary. Obama and Boehner almost had a deal done but then a splinter faction of the Republican Party offered Obama a better deal in higher revenue. Obama jumped at it and told Boehner that he had a better deal. This pissed off Boehner

  • I often wonder about how the presidency may or may not have been a pivotal moment for him in his personal development. He must have known and worked with some of those congresspeople that went all in on him for years prior to his presidency, only for many of them to essentially turn on him in a very adversarial way, likely rationalizing that none of it was _"personal"_ when politics is *very personal* - especially when every jab and jeer is public, it is not your hobby, but rather your _career_ and the way you earn your money, maintain your elite status and support your family.

  • President Obama's leadership proves moving speeches do not make transformative policies. His moving speeches galvanised the nation and propelled the hope for change and progress. His journey from campaigning to governing reveals the complexity of leadership, where soaring rhetoric must be tempered with pragmatism and strategic decision-making. It is one thing to move voters it is another to convince your fellow statemen to serve the nation with transformative policies.
