  • absolutely freaky how everyone acts like this is a daily occurrence at their school holy shit. the officer is literally the only one to realise this is serious. it freaks me out everyone acts so calm including the shooter himself. it breaks my heart to see how this happens so regularly, hope the boy who was shot is okay however.

    • Unfortunately in a lot of American public schools kids are pretty desensitized to this kind of thing, they were obviously decently frightened and in a more initial and silent state of shock, but when I was still in public school, in a very small low crime area, in a small little town in Indiana, we got days off every now and then because of bomb/shooting threats. There were also a decent amount of fights between students I’d say every month or two. We also did shooting drills a lot and knew of students and classmates that had weapons and posted photos of them online or sent pictures of them too friends and we’re definitely capable of doing something like that. Just based on hearing you would think it was in a big city, high crime, rough area, but again this was in a suburban little town in Indiana with the town right next to it being ranked one of the safest in the entire country. Whenever that stuff would happen it would be scary for a minute and yea you’d be on edge, a couple kids wouldn’t come to school, but we’d move on, and it often got to the point where kids would celebrate when we’d get days off bc of bomb/shooting threats. We become so desensitized to the idea of it happening to where a lot American students don’t really react to it unless they hear repeated shots and see blood. It’s very sad but unfortunately very true. It becomes almost like a tornado warning, you know in a lot of places you get them all the time and you go to your safe zone and it passes and then you go home, reality doesn’t really set in until you start hearing screams and see the roof coming off your classroom. Because of how sadly common school shootings have become here, a lot of students are very desensitized to the idea.

    • People being calm doesn’t mean that they don’t think it is serious. On the contrary, the fact that they aren’t acting hysterical can be the result of wanting to maintain composure to not impede the situation from being handled, as well as shock over what happened. I don’t know why everyone is saying that the officer is the only one who thinks it is serious. It’s really not uncommon to witness this behavior when something shocking happens. As someone who works in a school, I can tell you that in my experience both staff and students would take this very seriously, as they have when comparatively much, much milder situations have occurred.

    • You are trained to remain calm in tense situations, being calm in a bad situation is not the same thing as being okay with it. Would you rather have all of the staff being hysterical and freaking out in this moment or would you rather they be level-headed and calm so that people can collectively solve any problems and unknowns about the situation?

When will ppl learn that government cannot give ppl justice. Either live without government in chaos and be free or live as a slave under government in a failed attempt at safety. • He didn’t think they were going to let him go. He stopped shooting the first shot and surrendered. He could have shot at the officer , he could have shot at more people, created much more confusion… but he has a conscious, and clearly was not well. I’m disappointed as a juvenile who clearly is able to be rehabilitated considering DURING the crime he realized how wrong his actions were. Someone who is truly ‘psychopathic’ (anti-social personality disorder in the DSMV-V, that’s not a real diagnosis), would not be able to come to any kind of conclusion of conscious , especially during the crime as they feel a rush. Note that, our idea of a sociopath, and a psychopath , are two different things, but both are ASPD with differing symptoms. I don’t think this kid is either. I think he’s in shock at what he did in the video which is why he’s so flat. Who knows though ? I don’t. Its just natural to want to believe the best and wish the best for any young person. Either way , I feel sorry for him for whatever he went through to become this way, and I feel equally bad for the person shot. They’re both victims, though of course he’s thr only one who did wrong, and there’s no excuse-only an explanation. He clearly understands that.

You may think this opposite to what should be done in an "explosion" situation, however, lockdowns involve plans for escape and staying put. So initializing a lockdown puts the entire school in the "Ready" state. Also, how the fuck did he get in? I work in a school district, when I go to school buildings that I am not known in, I check in with the office per SOL. However, I get stopped CONSTANTLY, and am asked "Who are you?", "Why are you here", and "let me see your badge" (Badge is my school ID, it is what they call it). These people suck. They didn't do anything they should have, no sense of urgency even. We have had lockdown situations and every staff member is 110% at the ready, performing duties as they go not waiting for some one to hold their hand.

When one student has been shot in the ankle and a shotgun was laying in the hallway and still no lockdown has been called, I'd be willing to call that negligence on the school faculty's parts. Even if they still thought it was an "explosion", because that's what the police were originally called for, why would they not lockdown or evacuate the school? Their inaction could have easily cost countless lives, the only reason it didn't was because the shooter fortunately didn't go further than one shot.

Obviously this video is old, and all i can hope is they’ve got a better system going

      @bluepicklesin@bluepicklesin3 жыл бұрын
    • @Julian Wright He's right. It's just how the school system has mandatory drills for fires, tornadoes, earthquakes, and now school shootings. Teachers should be prepared for situations that endagers the school, which includes school shootings. I'm not saying that they should all have pistols and bullet proof vests etc. But training for situations like this and being educated on what to do and what not to do in this situation would be beneficial. You saw the teachers in this video, they were all just standing there, guaking,not knowing wtf to do. Banning autorifles might cause the mass shooting rates to go down, but it definitely isn't going to get rid of it completely. The blackmarket thrives off of gun sales and there are plenty of copycats. People will do crazy shit if they have nothing left to loose, epecially if they don't care about their life or other's.

I am absolutely not excusing his behaviour, he still taught about it and started the execution of his plan to shoot out a school, but I feel some type of disgust and empathy toward that kid. I am frustrated by his action, but happy he realized right away he was wrong. I truly hope more kids would be aware of this and search for help instead of coming to that point. That situation could have been avoided if he talked to someone about his feeling and come forward about the type of environment he grew up. • @Veris I can't really argue that. My theory is that he got tunnel vision trying to cope with the situation and kinda lost sight of the situation, which put him more on edge worrying about other shooters. He told a few people to secure the gun after he had been told it was secure IIRC. But a kid had been shot and the situation was fairly confusing so I can't really fault anyone too much for handling it poorly. Based on the way it played out, I think I would never have believed he was alone and it's hard to rely on something being somewhere if you can't see it, just like the shotgun. I dunno if he was just assuming the worst about everything until the situation was resolved or if he was unreasonably upset. Can't really call it.
