Watch as a Victor Hedman shot hits Anton Stralman in the head. Stralman actually chose to take the puck off the top of his helmet but it still caused the Panthers' player to get cut pretty badly.

    • @@tynao2029 it could be bad to the point that he breaks his jaw, is concussed, and has his career ended, or he could be cut with a concussion that sidelines him for a couple months. It's never going to be good, but it could be worse

  • Nice to see the refs blow the whistle after the hit. Maybe Calvert's injury paid notice to the NHL /Refs to wake up. Unfortunately it had to be a bad injury before it happened. Hopefully he will be ok.

    • Anna Roberts Lmao, wished they had figured that out before Bishop got hit in the neck with a puck during the playoffs last year and the refs just let the Blues score while he was writhing in pain and grabbing his neck on the ice. Good job NHL /Refs!!!

    • @@lawconic1 Yes True. Didn't something like this happen this season to Bishop. I find it hard to believe as soon as a ref gets injured they stop immediately.

    • @@lawconic1 for an older example you can look up when werenski got hit in the face and was bleeding on the ice and the play went on and the penguins scored. But the second crosby is ever hit there's an immediate whistle

  • In my day of playing the puck was metallic and my head was a magnet. The slo-mo shows the puck hitting him on the top of the head. It still hurts.

    • Most likely just the transfer of energy from the puck to the helmet then to his skin that cut him. That or either part of the helmet broke or cracked and cut him.

    • There's no such thing as a "good helmet". It's just like the NFL. You can put whatever you want on your head, but if your head gets smashed by a puck or a 250 lb. linebacker, you're just going to die a slow death rather than an immediate one. Some people would rather die immediately than go through what head injuries will bring

  • And I will ask the question for the billionth time: WHY TF DONT NHL PLAYERS WEAR FACEMASKS. It doesn’t even have to be the metal ones that obstruct vision, just a clear vigor that extends down further. It would prevent plays like this. It doesn’t affect their play. I don’t get it

    • Visors are more for the sticks flying around. A slapshot could easily crack a visor upon impact.

    • pikkisful I don’t think he even saw, much less had time to move his arm. He at least had the time to look down. Not even goalies see it coming half the time, It’s mostly just predictions. Lowering his head was much faster.

  • Duck! Wait, this isn't Anaheim... His helmet did its job perfectly. He was bleeding because in cold temperatures the salt in sweat makes the skin brittle as it dries and then rehydrates, dries... I'm not sure if I would have kept the helmet as a memento, or given it to the other guy as a trophy.
