There is definitely a hacker stereotype. Dr. Tim Summers wants us to flip the pervasive idea that hackers are criminals and do not create positive impact. In his talk, Tim draws on both his research and personal experience as a hacker to let us in on how hackers think and how understanding the "hacker mindset" might help all of us be more creative and prepared to solve today's and tomorrow's vexing problems.
Dr. Timothy C. Summers is a hacker, professor, and consulted expert on the theory and practice of hacker cognitive psychology. Tim is also the Founder of WikiBreach.org and the Director of Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Engagement at the University of Maryland, College Park, in the College of Information Studies (iSchool).
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

  • Wow, such a different and unique way of looking at it. I pray for the day that we, as hackers, are not ALL put in the same box. Alot of us simply crave the challenge of making the world a safer place! This mindset is what drives me every single day. Thnx for the talk.

  • I was a public speaker. Never laugh at your own jokes. Never laugh at your own ideas. People will not take you seriously.

    • Who do you think make sure that your bank account and money is taken? That's due to pentesting and hackers making sure that your bank's software isn't being breached. Don't let the stigma cloud your better judgment. I hack for government sites that pay me to make sure that the security of their site is maintained. So before casting judgement do research first because if you don't you will continue the stigma that is protecting your personal information

  • you may be an enlightened one or a scientist like every colleague topping the issue know that you just selling and generate confusion to the already resolved problem, the way is not by betraying and mind the own business as best as possible, even if it's not immediately "fixed" we are in Good hands and please the best is to start keeping your body in shape instead of coming to TED, your abusing its rights with this stuff
