Dandie

A peek in to a young Grizzly Bears life.
After observing grizzlies for several years, it's amazing to watch how these animals behave and learn from their mothers.
In the United States we have less than 1500 grizzly bears remaining (down from 50,000 in 1800s).
Disclaimer:
No matter how cuddly they might look, grizzlies could be very dangerous to humans, and in any circumstances we should avoid encounters with them at all times and take precautions not to interact with them. A mother grizzly with cubs will be specially aggressive and will defend her cubs from any threat.
Please be kind and respect all animals!

  • Bears do not have vets in the wild. They get bee stings and bug bites. The manure is gross to us, but it is smart healing for bears. The texture makes a poultice. The bile has a salts effect like Epsom salt. The mulched up alfalfa and grasses have nutrients that aid healing and condition skin and fur. Indians use mud instead of manure for healing. Your videos are simply the best. Hope you make more. Have a wonderful week.

  • What a wonderful surprise on a hard Monday for me. Pictures of Dandie mowing up the dandelions. Your beautiful videos sooth me in a way few things can. Thank you so very much for sharing the bounty you live on. He honestly did look dejected after the horses chased him from their pasture. Looks like he sort of threw himself into the scrub and pouted. Can't blame the horses, that is their pasture. It didn't hurt Dandie to much, since he came back to mow more dandelions down. Glad I got to see Nanny too. Thank you again. Blessed be. J in Oregon

  • Dear Honeysada, What a joy to see your little "Peaceable Kingdom!" Dandy is a gentle grizzly -- what a pleasure to see him eating all your dandelions! Who needs pesticides, when you have a dandelion loving bear?! lol It is always inspiring to see your videos! If the world of people approached Nature the way you do, this world would be a better place. Nanny looks like the Queen of the Corral, making sure everything is okay! Your horses are lovely, and smart enough not to let Dandy can simply throw his weight around to claim more dandelions! These videos are such a balm to the spirit! I'm sure it is a lot of work to maintain your "Animal World" and property, so there isn't always time to film. Do you get some stunning sunsets? You are such a gentle and loving person towards all the animals in your area. What a blessing you are! May you continue to enjoy good health, prosperity and joy in your life! Warmest wishes, Dianna (Southern MD)

  • Dandie is a handsome fellow and he and I share something in common. A love of Dandelions! They are very nutritional for Dandie. His mama taught him well! Aside he and other creatures, Dandelions are nutritional for humans. They are packed with vitamins and minerals and can be eaten raw or cooked. But, do not eat dandelions that have been sprayed with weed killer. Even better, don't spray them at all. To see a meadow or yard dotted with beautiful, bright yellow Dandelions brightens up the green grass they grow in, like little suns! (This has been a public service announcement for those who only see Dandelions as weeds.) Thank you so much for sharing with us a part of your lovely and breathtaking world. I enjoy your videos immensely. You are blessed!

    • I completely agree with you. My husband and I (rest in peace darling) bought his father's place, so he could retire to California. He had an immaculate lawn that he spent hours on weekly and vast amounts of weed killers and bug killers. No weeds, all perfectly edged and blindingly green. I was taught to garden organically from my Grandmother. I let the dandelions and the clover come back. I pull and dig out the noxious weeds, but I leave the beneficials alone. When my father in law comes to visit I can see that this really bothers him. I just told him that dandelions are sometimes the very first food that awakening bees can have, clover too. He has slacked up on telling me how to garden. He gets concerned when the grass browns up here and there. I've told him that I would rather conserve such an important commodity. He used to water every day for 35 minutes. What a waste of water!! I water by hand and only the potted fuschias get water every day. These toxic chemicals are poisoning our water systems and our children. It is time to change the idea of "The Perfect Yard" and what it should look like. J in Oregon

  • Dandie is a subadult bear. He did run... but the horses had to work as a team to demonstrate & mark their territory. When a bear turns and runs he is not giving up. He is showing that he had chosen he does not have to fight this battle, only a confident bear can back off from a fight and show his counterparts his vulnerable side, his backside. He is a maturing strong bear who is master of his choices and territories. That was a good negotiation for all.

I would never be able to watch a grizzly this close, especially the shots at night. Smart bear, dandelions are loaded with nutrients. The horses look beautiful and so healthy, I love them. I was nervous when Dandie got over the fence. They are very brave horses. Thanks again for sharing!

  • Your videos always put a big smile on my face. Watching Dandie gulping dandelions was like watching a little kid in a candy shop. Sweet video, thank you.

  • I love that Dandie wanted to make friends - I hope he will try again year and the horses will say yes.
