As a current teacher, this is a LOATHSOME trend. How are guns *in school* safer than, I don't know, limiting access to firearms? Schools are not prisoners. Teachers are not prison wardens, nor are we the military. I teach music for crying out loud. If my state tried to issue me a gun, I would refuse, and if they fired me for it, so be it. I will not be party to this insanity.
If only the majority in the US still retained that sanity.

It's not really.a second job. Unless school shootings are a daily occurrence at every single school in the state, most of the time, it just means carrying around an extra accessory to work. Also, it's not mandatory.

Thumbs up if you went through the public school system, and can think of at least one teacher who should absolutely not have legal access to a concealed gun.
I went through private k-7 AND public schools 8-12 , there were people in BOTH types that definitely shouldn't have guns.
I'm a teacher in a public school in a rural area where most people own guns (we even have classes in school where students shoot shotguns at clay targets, called trap-shooting), and even I can think of coworkers who shouldn't be armed.

mine were nuns - armed with 18 inch METAL rulers. Definitely should NOT have guns!

I am an armed security guard. In order to get licensed I have to go through 68 hours of use of force and firearms training. I have to pass an accuracy test and a mental evaluation every year to renew my license and complete another 8 hours of firearm range time.

Where I live, it takes 18 MONTHS for all that including 24 WEEKS of firearm safety training BEFORE being granted a license for a hand gun in any security position.
Mike Johnson’s courage in allowing The full House of Representatives to vote on a bill may even surpass Mike Pence’s courage in not violating the Constitution and overriding the votes of the citizens of the USA. I'm saying this right now, I am FINE with my taxes paying for gun safety classes and mental health tests. For EVERYONE, NOT JUST TEACHERS. If it stops someone from having a gun who shouldn't, I am HAPPY!! Make this a national law if it means the well regulated part of the second amendment finally gets applied!!

One of the teachers in my junior high was arrested because she threatened some students and had a loaded gun in her car. To say that I am apprehensive about arming teachers is a huge understatement.
I am a teacher and I would not sign up for carrying a gun in the classroom because that would be batsh*t crazy to have a gun in the classroom.

It wouldn't be an impeachment, just a vote to remove him from that position. That said, several republicans are going to attempt it. Without democratic support he stands no chance. As she passes him to hand back more test papers, how long do you think it will take before the teacher’s concealed weapon is found and taken away? @@tjjames9846 Your little fantasy scenario makes no sense because you misunderstand the law that was passed. It doesn't make it mandatory for all teachers to be armed. It allows those that wish to exercise their 2nd Amendment right to do so. There should be no way any student would know whether any particular teacher is armed as they will be carrying their firearm concealed. Concealed means hidden from sight or secret.

It's not required of teachers either, unless they want to be armed at school, which is a no gun zone.

My airline ticket was literally just downgraded from business class to premium economy because they changed the plane they are using. I was told I could only request compensation after my flight. I really hope they pass this law requiring refunds around air travel. I saved and bought a business class ticket, not premium economy

What if a teacher passes all those tests and gets a gun but then later their mental health declines or whatever, will they take the gun away from him? What if he doesn't want to give it back?
The screenings are only required to carry on school property. Off duty, none of those rules apply and they're the same as anyone else.
The real concern, is how they handle a kid removing their pistol from its sheath, are they trained for that scenerio???

@@ForAnAngel That's a pretty big assumption considering the lack of common sense among NRA-owned politicians. Having said that, the guns would be required to be concealed carry. That, of course, means little - the kids will know who is packing and who isn't.

Better late than never. He was swimming upstream against internal opposition and he started from going the wrong direction to begin with. If the US governments are not gonna implement gun training requirements, I think they should offer free gun safety courses.
Many folks here wouldn't bother taking them, they already *think* they know enough.

However, I think many people getting their first gun, or a new type of gun might take interest in a free gun safety course if it included something else. Maybe they could include some free time at a shooting range, shooting lessons, or gun cleaning lessons. Those are just some ideas.
@@JuanMPalacio All of those things are included in a course to get a permit. It's hardly free though, neither is the paperwork. The wait time for an appointment down here is quite long as well. In hindsight, since we dropped the requirement for a permit I'm guessing it's a lot quicker.
Problem with that is the gun owners who need training the most, will avoid taking courses.

I am also from Tennessee. Can't stand Trump and I'm pro Ukraine pro choice. But this one I gotta say I don't have a problem with. I don't think it's a bad idea for some teachers to receive training and be armed in case. I also don't think everyone should be required to take classes because the teachers are. Just saying I complain a whole lot about our politics but I don't see the issue with this one
@@S-tank_oh I don't know....I'd ask a law enforcement Officer who has had his weapon taken ....and used against him. In my case...I know of several instances....in one the Officer....died. And having witnessed several pretty violent fights in school...it's a matter of time. Wait for it.

But the number of people that would be willing to come in and forcibly take it from a teacher and use it against students can't possibly be larger than the number that would just get one from somewhere else. I don't think trying to take one from a teacher would be their first option. So in your example I have to think the benefits would outweigh the potential consequences.

@@jlbueno0611 Breaking News: Repeal the 2nd amendment: The process for repealing or changing an Amendment is outlined in Article V of the Constitution, and basically requires at least 2/3 of both Houses of Congress to agree on the change, which must then be ratified (approved) by no less than 3/4 of all the states.

So, lets say you have a hostile student that loses his or her control and decides they'll go for the teachers gun. Now you have two people struggling for a gun in a classroom where there should be no gun.
A long time ago, a history teacher at my junior high school (yes, a long time ago) told all of his students to get down on their knees and worship him, because he was annoyed that they weren't paying attention. Yes, he was removed from his duties that day; but imagine if he had a gun?

As someone who has a permit in a state that doesn't require it, I agree with this. Everyone should have to have a permit to carry, however it should apply to all states.

Everyone and every writer has been exceptionally capable of articulating nuanced opinions about everything, except, why we absolutely SHOULD purchase peace through the Arsenal of Democracy. I would rather pay $1,000 to buy peace over there, than buy it with 10 lives of American boys from here.

Yes, peace. Because the cultures involved only respect strength and action, not bowing and capitulation. Obama gave Russia the reset button and they tried taking Ukraine, first by politics and then by proxy war in the East, and then by an invasion they lied and said would never happen.

If you don't understand how providing military aid to Ukraine promotes peace, you aren't paying attention.
I think most sane people find supporting Ukraine to be acceptable... Aid sent to Israel will be harder to find acceptable.
Yeah, this topic was handled very poorly. They made it sound like the aid to Ukraine was wrong somehow, but it's old military equipment and a loan to a country whose babies and old people are being shelled and which is making WW3 less probable. Ukraine is a linchpin. If Ukraine falls, there's no guarantee Africa will get its grain, which might mean unrest and hunger (and even more immigrants to the U.S.) There's no guarantee the Middle East will gets its grain, and I don't need to tell you what that means. Russia will have potentially more courage to attack Europe. Europe will be scared and ramping up military production at the expense of other sectors, which means problems for the world economy. China will have more courage to attack Taiwan, which means problems with the microchip market, which basically means the world economy making a nosedive.

Well, you know the old adage. "Si vis pacem, para bellum.", or in English "If you want peace, prepare for war.". Not helping Ukraine or Taiwan would help authoritarian regimes grow in strength, and everyone knows how peace-loving those dictatorial types are.
Also, those kids in Tennessee better not talk back to the teacher from now on... ya never know if they might be carrying and a teacher going postal on a class is way less fun with bullets.

How many jobs teachers do at the same time? They don't only teach, they educate children where their parents failed and in Tennessee they are now unpaid security guards.

If you don't think giving aid to Taiwan and Ukraine promotes world peace, think of China taking over Taiwan and Russia occupying Europe and what "peace" that would look like. And, after 50 years as an educator, no teacher I know wants to carry a gun in school.
