The model s handles are shared with range rovers, and I think some luxury kias. The y and 3 handles are from Lamborghini, and x front are just automatic doors, and back aren’t handles. Roadster is from lotus, what’s your point? Mad you don’t have one? They’re all normal handles

As a first responder, the first thing that comes to mind for me is a huge safety design flaw. And that's the handles. Door handles are, for us, an alternative to forcing the door open, if the hinges work and the vehicle is fine. However, with these we have no choice but to force them, damaging the vehicle, even if it's only a medical call, due to design. Another is in the event of a fire. How are we going to do as little damage as possible while extinguishing the fire. In this case, breaking the window. With other cars, we could just force or the door would already be open, but the upward motion is also a hazard.

Lol what? Did you not see how quickly that door opened? Within less than a second of him pressing the handle. Pulling and swinging open a regular car door involves more steps and physically takes longer lol. Maybe by only a second, but still longer.

My immediate thought when I see these fancy modern car doors is all the problems that can occur in winter. But if you don't live north enough for that to be an issue then these do look really cool.

@@hellothere8411 I mean, if you're parked in a garage or something it's probably not a problem. But in Norway, without a garage in -15 to 25 C (5 to -13 F) as a normal range throughout the day, and you wake up to dig your car out of the snow and go to work. You open and close the door throughout the day, some snow crystals gets in there. There's moisture. Its not just the ice on the outside of the doors, it's inside the door handles. Unless it had a button on the keys for "heat up door handle" what am I supposed to do? Bring an extension cord and a hairdryer? And if the battery in the key is low and it doesn't register when you press buttons. What if the cold messes with sensors that makes the doors open with a light touch (as long as the key is within a certain range. My mom has that with her car does have issues with that). It's these kinds of concerns I think of when I see these cool things. I mean, if the door doesn't gave the option for me to put a key in and manually unlock and open the door, that is immediately a worry for me. I've had way too many issues with fancy modern things being very inconvenient (or even straight up a problem) if I wanted to take the car up to my mountain cabin in the woods. These are super cool in warmer climate city environments
They have mechanisms to push on the door to break the ice. They also automatically defrost any doors, mirrors, cameras, and the charging port.

I love how the Roadster 1.0 has the simplest yet sleekest way of opening its doors. All the other ones having moving pieces to them and what not, the roadster, just press a button to unlock the door and pull.

I didn't know that there is four types of handles on Tesla. And was perfectly fine.
I worked for a company who done work for lotus in England.. I was very lucky as we kept all the parts for the roadster before I even knew really what tesla was all about. I remember the car very well as we had the chance to see it before many did. I actually handled many parts for the cars, that's my lil claim to not so much fame. Great to see one again after such a long time, also got to see one of the Evora prototypes they kept in a crate before was released too. 😀

@@shadowII The original tesla roadster has an electric motor that's how they started the brand. That car is based on a Lotus Exige or one of the older models, which has a turbo 4 cylinder and they sound nice
You can enable auto presenting handles on the S which automatically pops out when you approach the vehicle. On the X you can hand the front doors open up for you as you approach as well.
My cars do that constantly... Shows how goofy these are

Yes, because you can have the Model S auto present the handles, which takes around 1 second...
Are there also heaters to prevent ice build up? These designs seem terrible for colder environments in which you might have to fight through a quarter inch or more of ice to even open up your door.
I believe at least some of the models have a hydraulic piston to assist with door opening in icy conditions.
