Every Step Before The Artemis Launch - Explained by NASA Astronaut | WIRED
Every rocket launch is different and it takes a lot of people and safety checks to ensure that a 5.75 million pound rocket can safely launch into space. Mike Massimino, a former NASA astronaut and spacecraft communicator in the Mission Control Center breaks down what happens from eight hours before liftoff until launch.

how have i never seen a proper breakdown of a rocket launch before this? amazing. Mike is a legend.
I can’t imagine how nerve racking and euphoric it must be. Especially if it’s a first time going into space
I am an aviation and space writer, and lived in Houston much of my career. Mike M. was one of my very favorite people among the astronaut corps. A very nice and funny guy in a place where more than a few arrogant stiffs lurked.
His story shows some beautifully human moments sprinkled among one of the most scientific, challenging, and rewarding human endeavors ever.
The Fruit loops guy 😅😅
I was about to comment about TBBT
Mike is the real deal! I enjoy listening to anything he has to say.
Honestly it's incredible that we have developed this kind of tech
Hours before launching Technicians: Inspects every inch of the rocket Astronauts: poker time!!!
Man I can't believe Rodney Dangerfield was an astronaut.
He gets no respect. No respect I tell ya!
Wow this is incredible. You there’s a lot of things you have to consider with something like this but I never could’ve imagined all these little intricacies 😅
I really hope this is a multipart series
Mike is my favorite astronaut
Great story. Thank you Mike😀
I can't bare to hear "Go for power up" since the Challenger. I was watching it and I flash back to that day. I don't understand how astronauts can sit on top of a bomb and be so calm
There better be a part 2 here?........ Thx for the vid 🙂
Beautifully done. I look forward to sharing this with my kids
Thanks
Thanks for the experience 😬 RESPECT to all the astronauts! The mental health of a astronauts. My brain is tired thinking about the psychological part of me being a astronauts. 🤯
Wonderful. Wonderful stuff.
Love this guy....
Nicee another educational weedioo
"Speed and power, speed and power" - I bet, given that you're being pushed by literally MILLIONS of horsepower! I don't remember the exact number, but it's in the low millions. It's the equivalent of dumping the entire output of a fairly large nuclear power plant into one vehicle. This stuff is amazing!
I can't believe they were listening to the Russians about using the bathroom. With friends like that, who needs enemas.
i hope i could become an astronaut one day
More space content pl
I need a whole other video of some of this guys stories.
So, if they want the fuel to be inside for the littlest time as possible before the launch, what happens to it when there are scrubs? How hard is the task of emptying those tanks? Is that the procedure?
I believe the scrubs typically happen before the fuel is put in, or at least before a large amount is. It takes several hours to fully fill it up. So I don’t see why they wouldn’t just reverse the flow and empty it for the day.
Can you imagine the nervous shits they'd wanna take into the diaper 😂 this stuff is so cool. Great breakdown
While I am jealous that I'll never experience the "speed and power" of a rocket launch, I'm ok with not being strapped to an enormous bomb and fired into space lol
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
Howard " Froot Loops " Wolowitz sends his love to Mike Massimino
👍Respect✨
Artemis 1 soon!
Science rocks!
6,950 people now know the secret lol
Encourage warrior or adventurer is a very useful "psychological " hack instead of a trick, At least no one wants to discourage an astronaut risking his / her life, ( I still think sitting on a bomb trying to get rid of the Earth gravity is extremely dangerous,) Its difficult get rid of Earth, and it's even more difficult to return safe, that would like you throw a basket ball, power strong enough to reach the basket, but not too much strength that the ball bounce back,
Is it just me or does he look like an older Mark Cuban?
A big mission launching in one organization comes with lots of " Go", even Weather God!!!
8:56 Jeremy Clarkson has joined the chat.
this was great! very informative. And leave it to the Russians to come up with such a pragmatic way to deal with the bathroom issue :D
Massimo and his sister are preparing for a kidney transplant right about now. Can we all wish them the best? I know I am.
This is very Artemis-centric. Falcon 9 doesn't fuel until just before launch.
Why the hate
ask yourself
Casually slips in the obviously technical term "moonikins" 😂
And former actor.

Science is amazing..I do not understand why anyone working in a STEM job would want to do anything else. I want to say youtube and create content. But I don't want to get harassed again. I understand bureaucracy - but seriously?
Or you know, get high, push the button, cross your fingers and then go buy twitter.
Hey fruit loop! Lmao.
That's typically not what you want to do with a rocket launch but ok
🙄
Who came here because of TBBT THE BIG BANG THEORY😊
"Froot Loops"
Most astronauts are atheists who don't believe in God yet they believe in a card game and bad luck.
*Atremis won't launch for sure!* we never been to the moon.
Fake news
I hope i see a rocket launch one day!
