The BV206 is designed for the Swedish military to run in Swedish dense forests with marshes, creeks, small lakes and sometimes 3 feet of snow. I have never driven one but I have been sitting in the back, and the young recruits driving them seemed to never slow down for anything. I always had a sore ass (sore whole body actually) after those rides.
It was also manufactured for the US Army as the SUSV
One of my favorite winter rides while in the Canadian Army. Never qualified to drive, but I sat on a lot of gear in them.
I'm a trained mechanic-ish and driver for the BV206/8 and it's just silly how capable they are. I'm also trained for the SBAT111/S and same thing there, the size doesn't seem to hinder them at all. The TGB11/13/20 are also monsters off-road.
Used these in my time in the Norwegian army on the Russian border. Excellent vehicles! The tracks on the rear wagon also have traction through an axel connecting the two together.
Bring the tank to Tumble Weed Ranch. Would love to see it tackle the off road course. Awesome job Jay and the TFL team.
We had one of the military versions when I did my military service with the the Arctic Rangers in Finland in the early 1990:s. It had great performance in the snow and the marsch lands. I will never forget when we tipped the trailer over with 6 military dogs and handlers inside. It was mayhem. Swearing soldiers and dogs trying to fight each other. I put my arm between my dog and another one. Luckily I had the winter uniform on and I escaped with minor bite marks from my fellow soldiers dog. Still today impressed with the axel between the trailer and the main wagon. It could twist 60 degrees withou any problems if memory serves right.
You have to love the Hagglund!! And ofcourse the Unimog.
I have loved the BV206 for decades! Thank you guys for all the fun!
That’s actually a BV208. The 206 is the petrol version.
Love Unimogs and Jay is the USA guru of the Mogs
Those Swede Hagglunds are nice . . . Very capable rigs that few stateside know about.
You guys are so lucky to get to play with those big boy toys.
Omg the smile on Nathan said it all
Those Swedish built vehicles are so cool! I've seen HeavyDSparks use his own in some of his recovery videos. Those machines can go just about anywhere!
I want one so bad! Also the Mog as well!
They got finnish version also :)
heavyD uses finnish Sisu Na-140
Drove one for the Swedish National Guard for some years. If you know how to use a BV206 the Unimog has no chance. Try "driving" the Unimog across a lake.
Remember riding in these during various military exercises in Germany and Austria. One time the driver lost control and hammered one of the cabins into a tree. This happened on a tiny mountain road so we were lucky nobody got hurt.
The benefit of the Mog is that you can also use it as a truck... on the road, or as a tractor or as a generator, its way more versatail then the huglund wich is extremely good for its purpose, but its a very specific tool, good at one thing and thats conquer terrain
We used the crap out of these stationed in Alaska We called them SUSV’s (M973)
"Small Unit Support Vehicle"
So now we need a Sherp to compare it to the Mog and the Hägglund Bandvagn, I hope they also have one of these and if so, we wanna see all these three vehicles in Moab! This would be epic!!!
The Sherp would probably kill itself in Moab. It's great over rough terrain but it's tip-over angle is pretty terrible.
I expect the BV206 to be able to go much faster than the Sherp in rough terrain.
Better compare with a Fiat Panda 4x4 🐼
@@Kevin-bl6lg in the mud I have seen Pandas go where Unimogs sunk - Pandas are light and small and very capable.
@@GottTS ....yes. and If the Panda 🐼 does get stuck, you can pick it up and lift it with just a couple of friends.
Jay has some really cool ideas and equipment. Great, Contin is always thanks Andrea Nathan
we had those Swiss tracked vehicles in the US Army in Alaska (back in early 90s anyway) and they were damn near unstoppable in the snow, we rescued many a Humvee in the snow, so much fun to drive
Swedish Hägglunds bandvagn 206.
Yes they still have them in the inventory in Alaska. The U.S. Army calls them SUSV (Small Unit Support Vehicle), it was fun to skijor behind them.
Made by the same country who invented the Carl Gustaf and the AT4. Not the country that makes Rolex and Toblerone...
@@martinlyhagen6166 Same company in coop with Bofors that also makes the CV90, soon in Ukraine.
Not Swiss, SWEDISH! SWEEEEDEN... It's between Norway and Finland. Look at a map.
I once ran a rescue operation out of the South Pole in the tracked vehicle it's flippn amazing.
Sweet video. I loved skijoring behind the Hagglund aka "SUSV" in the U.S. Army.
First off, Nathan needs to be doing MORE OR vehicle trips. His energy and joy are 10 steps higher than when he is tinkering around with the eco car reviews. As he said, best day at the office ever. 2nd, that Hagglund takes it all to the next level of cool. Unimog at the Ranch doing a tiny car drag around was not very thrilling. Was hoping to see it conquer the OR course.(yes in the snow) I would like to see Jay(or anyone)get his hands on a Sherp. Put the Sherp up against a Hagglund in say a swamp. Or anywhere terrain grip is slick to non-existent. Or even a lake. If it is legal there in CO. to drive amphibious vehicles into the waters. (not legal in a lot of states)😊
👏👏👏👏TFL CAMERA NINJA'S 🙏👏👏👏 HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
Dave Sparks AKA Heavy D has a Hägglund... Pretty cool machine...
No he doesn't... The Hagglund BV206 is a Swedish machine... Dave has a very similar vehicle... but it's a Sisu Nasu which is a Finnish made machine by Sisu Auto...
I can't believe this, I was in the finnish army as a bv206 driver and our unit had both those and unimogs! On solid ground and rocks the unimogs got to most places, but as soon as the ground got muddy or there was a decent layer of snow they kept getting stuck all the time. Bv206 on the other hand... I have never managed to get one stuck in any conditions. so much fun to drive! And they can do 60 kph on flat ground althoguh it's not recommended. A decent speed for something so capable offroad I'd say.
Tracks. Sometimes you just need tracks.
one with some (military) experience would definitely use chains on the Mog ... not only in winter but also in any other tough terrain
I see one of this where I live in the mountains of Northwestern Canada. I always imagine turning it into my overland\adventure rig, with the back section modified as a camper. I already assumed it was a Russian vehicle lol. This thing looks like it would climb the mountains here lol. We see a few different tracked vehicles, but now I know what this one is called! Another excellent video, guys!
Y'all need a Sherp! The Sherp can go anywhere & everywhere!
The BV206 beats the crap out of a Sherp in really rough terrain
Jay has some cool toys! Really enjoy him on the channel. Keep up the great work!
Awesome content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
The thing is that the Swedish Armed Forces was built around conscription during all of the 20th centry. A vehicle that needed specialist technichans is not a good fit in total war with the eastern neighbour. Bandvagn 206 (littarly Tracked Vehicle 206) by Hägglunds (ä = a in ash) was a follow up to Bolinder-Munktell (bought by Volvo) Bandvagn 202. The replacement is called Bandvagn 410, is armoured and is still built by Hägglunds (now owned by BAE Systems) and the US Army has also placed a order on them.
We had the haugland in the army in Alaska, they were really nice, especially in the back with an artic heater, and a squad of guys with all our gear!
The Hagglunds looks like a vehicle that shouldn't work......but it does, very well. Its a sledgehammer wearing ballet shoes.
A buddy of mine did his military service in Sweden as a tank/IFV/BV206 mechanic and he told me they are maintenence hogs... But they are great at what they´re built for!
Considering how they were driven in the army by young guys barely over their teens it's no surprise they needed maintenance.
I live not too far from the International Antarctic Visitor Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand... they have a fleet of (mostly ex-Antarctic use) BV206's that visitors/tourists can take a ride in. They have a fantastic obstacle course that shows off their capabilities. There's also a few in use here in NZ as offroading vehicles to take tourists on adventure rides...
Those rigs are so ridiculously baaaadddaaaasss! I'd love to get a Unimog if I ever hit the PowerBall! 🤔
Amazing equipment!
I have driven gamma goats! They were cool, but we had a dude tip one over (going too fast?) I have forded a river with one. For tracked vehicles I like the M548, it had a diesel motor that ran well. It would go about 45 mph.
Just incredible. Not sure I can say anything else
The unimog was surprisingly unimpressive.. Now I know which vehicle I will have to buy for my Arctic adventures
Awesome episode. Jay comes across as a cool guy 😎👍
The Hagglund who'd be great as an overlanding rig.
It gulps fuel. That is why those are usually used only by militaries, rescue services or something like remote industrial service people. People whose solution to "we are about to run out of fuel" is well have Frank the friend just drive another full tanker truck here. Very capable vehicle, but not cheap to run. I have seen many many people comment it would be cool to own one, but if one really doesn't absolutely need the "I will swim and crawl through a wet swamp bog without breaking sweat" there is way cheaper and easier to maintain options. It is robust, but still the track, track suspension, the articulation and so on takes looking after.
Beautifully built Unimogs! Would love to have the Hagglund!
Would be interesting to see you guys drive the iveco daily 4x4.
Reminds me of the Arctic snowcat atv!
It`s a pity, that those tires don`t have the optimal profile for these conditions. But of course: even if there were tractor-tires with a far deeper profile, `chain always will be the winner` in the end... especially because the Hägglunds is light and powered by chain-profiles like a snowmobile. The German army uses Hägglunds as well, especially in the Alps.
Next time get a Vityaz DT-30 😅
18:59 GT3 RS stuff right there
Norwegian Army uses plent of these. Main transport in the woods.
Ever thought of getting an Ripsaw and you going to watch the Matts offroad wrecker challenge in March 8/9/10th
Nice rigs
With Roman's czech heritage you should check out some Tatras with their bizarre spine drive and hilariously cambered axles
or the Pinzgauer version of Ledwinka's design.
The brits had something similar when I was in Iraq in 2003. Those things excelled in the sand. Obviously this isn't the exact same thing but they look almost identical to me just going by memory.
Yep, the British military uses the same model.
@@Brookspirit The UK Royal Marine commando (along with Germany & Sweden) have just ordered a load more of the latest model BV410 which will have more amour and capability. I believe that they already operate about 120 of them across the globe.
@@Pesmog I thought it was the Royal Marines but I wasn't certain. They had a military police unit next to where I was.
Royal Marines Armoured Support Group operates BvS10's an armoured version. 2nd Royal Tank Regiment had the Warthog, a variant of the Bronco All Terrain Tracked Carrier (ATTC). Much bigger (20t) made in Singapore. They are being surplused at the moment £80k to £200k
Y'all need to check out Extreme Hagglunds There made in Montana
Swedish armed forces has used versions of the Hägglund tracked vehicle for donkey years. It is so versitile for woodlands, arctic conditions etcetera.
Swedish Armed Forces bought around 5000 of the BV206. They also had many of its predecessor BV202 which was built by a subsidiary of Volvo.
@@sebofo you are probably right. I only know Hägglunds tracked vehicle are kind of omnipresent anywhere you see military here in Sweden. Except for around those people doing military intelligence and defence on a computer.
Jay reminds me of that carpenter guy from those old Sears commercials.
Mr. Couch you by far have the coolest toys ever. Do you rent your unimogs? If not that would be amazing. I think if you trained you rental clients properly it could work out. I would so rent your vehicles.
Just get a Sherp... they’re a fourth of the price and come from Russia. Comrade Andrey would love it.
Why don’t you guys test out a Sherp? Those things are just amazing and cost a mere fraction of the price..
So cool
Fun video! But you should have brought the Buhanka! I miss the Buhanka!
too cool. bad thing about the tracked vehicle is that it can’t cruise on the highway. would have to be trailered in then used.
“Torsion suspension” The Chieftain has arrived
I think it would have been more comparable if you had put agricultural tires on the mog !
First to be here commenting - Really Like TFLoffroad
2:12 I need this in snow runner.
Something similar in performance on soft ground to tracked vehicle is sherp or other russian crazy vehicles... There are number of them with extremely low ground pressure, amphibious...but craziest of all vehicles are screw drive vehicles. I dare you to find one. And generally in europe unimogs have chains in snow
I wonder when that dyke Tommy will finish transitioning to being a man..
JAY COUCH MIGHT BE THE DOPEST MAN ON THE PLANET!!!! No more Chuck Norris!!! His vehicles are what I would choose instead of any Lamborghini!!
Hägglunds, used in Sweden by the Army, fire department, Ambulance and more...
The gama goat was amphibious too
ill still take unimog any time
Is a turbo version available?
The difference is that one cannot move from road to off-road and back.
Only one of these vehicles can be used on the road. The other goes everywhere on a trailer.
156 Hp, that´s the OM612 IFAV engine??
What kind of Axles does the truck have? They are tiny
The portal gearing reduces the torque that the final drive has to handle, so the ring gear can be smaller.
They are portal axles. There is a reduction gear at each wheel.
I think the Royal Marines used those in the Falklands conflict....?
I thought Nathan had passed away. Where's he been hiding?
Would chains have helped the mog?
The Mog with bad tires for snow.... 🤨
Aris aatb brt italian veicle best
I only got one question... What does "stuggles" mean?
Time for the TFLTank channel?
why call it "tank" in the thumbnail? It's a Hägglunds Bandvagn, just like the Unimog is a Mercedes-Benz Unimog and not just a "truck"
That was my first thought too. She’s not a tank!
I don’t disagree, but I think the implication is simply tank = treads
@@DartmouthOutingClub But that's completely wrong. There are many tracked vehicles, and most are not tanks.
@@brianb-p6586 think before you comment. I said tank = treads, not treads = tanks. If you don't understand the difference...
@@DartmouthOutingClub the equality function is order-independent: one side equals the other, so swapping sides doesn't change the meaning; "1/2 = 0.5" is the same as "0.5 = 1/2". You apparently meant to state, not tanks and treads are equivalent, but that 'tank implies treads', and even that would presumably have been intended to be 'tank implies tracks'. The symbol for "implies" is "⇒", and can be approximated by "=>". So, "tank ⇒ tracks" would make sense, but "tank = treads" does not. And people calling vehicle such as the BV-206 a "tank" are obviously thinking that having tracks implies that it is a tank, which of course is nonsense.
And the RUSSIAN has the monster one.....Vityaz DT-30....
track is one thing but tracked plus articulated plus pitch control between front and rear part.. just two tracks is not that great.
Um what is STUGGLES?
hägglunds
Well it’s not a tank is it?
This wasn`t even close to what these mashines really can do.
Treads? You mean tracks🤦🏻♂️
Örnsköldsvik
The UNIMOG STUGGLE...new model that isn't quite up to the task.
Get a Sherp, way better and cost way less. And it’s a commie vehicle, so Andrey will love it..
Gamma Goats were awful. They were slow and extremely loud, cold in winter and hot in summer. The M548 was a much better vehicle.
That is not even remotely a tank it simply a box with treads
A way overpriced box with treads. Of course that communist Andrey will love it..
Why doesn't the short guy like Roman?
Nathan has always had a bit of an attitude.
I love this channel, but as soon as i see Jay and his arrogance i get annoyed and leave..
All rich kid toys nothing to do with real life of the working people
Hägglunds bv206 is a working vechicle in Sweden. Mostly used in Army, search and rescue and stuff like that. It should not be a toy it should be hard working all year around.
