  • Her moves absolutely take you by surprise the first time you see them because of how animated they are and how perfectly it suits her character. It also reminds us that Wednesday isn't just some socially awkward teen; she's full of character and couldn't give a rat's mummified ass if you understood her or not. To top that off, knowing that Jenna Ortega choreographed this herself over two sleepless nights just makes this so iconic.

    • @@joeyfalcon1793 And she still did a choreo, imo the dance could've been better, but 1st of all, she's not a dancer at all, 2nd of all, it's Wednesday Addams she's playing, not some high school typical blonde that does dance and cheer, and last of all, if you don't like it, don't say anything about it. Jenna did great with this, and absolutely owned this role. And don't come at me saying "YoU dOn'T kNoW dAnCe" because i do.

At 0.53 she does a version of the watusi that the original Wednesday Addams did on the TV show, and some of her arm movements earlier on are also from the same routine. She also does some of her father's tango moves. Not only did Ortega come up with moves that are 100 percent in character, she also did her feckin' homework so it's not just new stuff, it's a slight homage to the original. Big brain acting.

  • This show is such incredible proof of what acting can be done without saying a word. And even without facial expressions a lot of the time, this show works because it lets you imagine rather easily what Wednesday is thinking, it doesn't have to tell you or beat you over the head with it, you can tell when she wants to strangle someone or when she wants to roll her eyes even though she never does either. Ortega really did an incredible job portraying an awesome character. Show is being rightly praised and Wednesday was right.... the suspense is killing me.... Edit: I have a theory that this dance scene is the one having so much of a lasting impact on people is because its just like "Wednesday in one scene". And basically is a giant recap of what makes her great, its familiar and awesome but also sort of weird and out there, just like Wednesday herself.

    • You're maybe half right. There is a lot of narration during those "no dialogue" scenes you're thinking of. The show definitely over explains many details. We get a lot of internal monologues in this show because Wednesday doesn't verbalise her thoughts often.

    • @@nanyunie Ricci Wednesday was easier to play IMO. A young child being dark can be brushed off as acting out for attention so it was easier for her to just do or say whatever she wanted. In Netflix show she is 16 there is more of a dynamic there. Mostly she is maturing as a person. She can't be that dark little girl anymore atleast not in the same way. I think Jenna did a great job.

  • So many little iconic tips of the hat packed into one minute of dance. I'm impressed by her transitions from one to another, linear to vertical movements, mechanical to flowing, changing pace and mood with playful and horror tones, while maintaining really steady and intense eye acting. Resetting her position by dropping back into the 'Wednesday walk' and then flipping back into the dance is hilarious, just for that little moment of awkwardness. But the best thing is the contrast with EVERY OTHER STUDENT. Look at the rest of the students dance in the background. Wednesday is BY FAR the most animated and fun thing at the party, which is in direct contrast to what you'd expect of Wednesday, yet all that fun is nods to Goth and horror dances. Fantastically thought out and executed. Kudos to Jenna and the team.
