Nkaara Roda Basically, in previous Zelda games, the animators created death animations or incapacitated animations for Link whenever he dies or gets knocked to the ground. In this game however, they decided to have Link's animation "skeleton" be effected by physics, like inertia or gravity, without any real rigging, meaning if he dies or gets knocked back he'll just do whatever the game physics dictate. Basically think any dead body in any modern FPS or Action RPG and how those bodies can be manipulated after they die. I think Half-Life 2 is responsible for the term "ragdoll" due to how dead bodies in the Source Engine act like limp rag dolls.

My main complain that was lack of enemy variety is now gone, this game is looking so good!
Each different área seems to have one type of enemy that "rules" them or is more commonly seem in them, like different tribes in different habitats, it's kinda interesting.
The only previous gameplay you had was the great plateau, and you judged the whole game out of that?
Link Yes, it was indeed too soon, although my reason to do it was because of SS putting Bokoblins everywhere, andit got old really fast, so when i first saw Bokoblins here i thought the same, i just hope other classic enemies are more common too, like Ocktorocks, deku babas, etc.

About the framerate: Reggie showed the switch on the tonight show and the framerate was very smooth even on portable mode, much better than this.
The whole video was locked at 24 FPS or something, which means that the players also ran at about 24 FPS. It's not the game that is running at those low FPS even on the Wii U, it's whatever recording program they use that does it.

1080p 60fps and up is the target for all Switch games, according to Nintendo. Third party may be different, but their first party games are all going to meet this spec.
Seeing this gameplay makes me wonder how the Nintendo's developers actually feel about their insistence to not compete power-wise...like it must be so infuriating to be making groundbreaking, ambitious games like this but be severely hindered by hardware limitations

I'm obviously referring to competing with the other consoles. A Ps4 or XBone could run this game at 30FPS effortlessly and could possibly hit 60. Taking into account the fact that this is a stream, I'm betting that what we're seeing is around 20FPS for the most part, which is pretty abysmal for the biggest AAA game Nintendo has made in at least a decade
I don't even usually care about graphics much--I still play my N64 more than both my Ps4 and Wii U. But when I play a modern, AAA game I expect at least a level of visual fidelity that doesn't detract from gameplay and immersion. I'm a bit worried about this one

I did not expect a tropical jungle like area to be in this game. That's frickin' sick. I wonder where it is in the game world. Hopefully not in the South Eastern region, that area seems to be all hills and ravines and I think it's also a beach area near the edge. I think it may be the 3rd region coming up from the region to the far South West. The region just below the supposed snow region to the far North West. I say this mainly because, even though we see no high up perspectives in this footage, there aren't that many mountains and we can't really see any main landmarks we've seen before. Also, we didn't see a jungle region from the e3 footage. So it has to be a far off region and because of the death mountain region and the Twin peaks region being very dominant in the theme-ing of the land surrounding it. I think it may be to the far West of the land of Hyrule. But then again, I could be wrong. We'll just have to wait and see in 2017. Hopefully not near the end.

We always have had 'standards', it's just that they were different back then as opposed to now. Back then, it was acceptable for a massive, ambitious game to have drops in Frame rate. Nowadays, gamers assume that isn't the case; however, creating a massive game and keeping the framerate consistent and smooth isn't as easy as snapping your fingers and making it so. The way I see it, so long as the frame rate issues aren't on "Sonic Boom" or similar levels, and can be mostly controlled, I'll accept it.

"We're all really picky about performance, that's why we're PC gamers in the first place" Umm, actually, I'm a PC gamer mainly because of convenience, as you have access to a lot of games for XBox and PS. Nintendo is the most worth buying pretty much because there's no ports of their games on PC. So PC is generally cheaper than buying all three consoles. Performance is secondary to me. The more quality the better, for sure, but if I can play with 720p 30fps (at least consistent, drops do bother me) I don't have much reason to complain.

Besides the low, choppy frame-rate in this footage, everything else about this is just awesome. I love the dense tropical/swamp area, I love Link's outfit and the enemies, the new animation for Flurry Rush. This is great.

If the Frame rate drops below 50: Most people: AHHHHHHHHHHGGG *throws controller out the window and goes on a rampage* Me: *continues playing like nothing ever happened because frame rate has no effect on the gameplay unless it drops below 20, which is unlikely anyway* It's also worth mentioning that the 'bad frame rate' is likely caused by the recording and not the actual game. If not, then take into consideration that they might attempt to improve it later once they've added everything else.

+WideMouthWideMouthia No, the only things the carvings confirm is that bird people existed before Twilight Princess. Meaning that technically, they could exist in any timeline. But I strongly believe that the bird people are the people from the carvings.
It's probably a coincidence, but the large sword Link uses to fight the Moblin bears some resemblance to the sword the Darknut mini-boss (in the Temple of Time) used in Twilight Princess. Considering how much damage some of the enemies do, fighting a Darknut or an Iron Knuckle in this game would certainly make for an exciting duel!

I mean, other gameplay vids show less of an issue with the framerate, with dips only in very intense moments. This one seemed very consistent even when nothing was going on on screen. I'm guessing whatever was used to record or edit the video did this, or maybe this area is unfinished. Either way, there's plenty of footage showing better WiiU frames, and this is the only outlier.
Guys! you need to relax and stop worrying about the framerate. There is a strong possibility that the game will be delayed yet again till summer due to localization issues and after that's done its on to the testing and debug phase which may take a bit longer cause Nintendo wants BOTW to be as flawless as possible. Remember this is their most ambitious title to date and they don't want any loose screws or anything like that which I admire them for that. They take their time with their games and it pays off cause I've never in my life played a Nintendo game that's a glitchy mess, sure their games have a few glitches here and there but you have to dig deep to find them. They don't do what a lot of other devs do which is rush a broken game at launch to meet demand and patch it up later they take their time for a reason and it shows I mean all of the Wii U's exclusives run perfectly smooth even Xenoblade chronicles X and that game is as big as BOTW is going to be. The Switch version might run at 1080p 60fps but I'm fine with 720p 30fps on the Wii U cause I know it will run smoothly on both platforms, We have faith in you Nintendo cause in the end we know you always pull though :D

I do hope we're still able to do on the go inventory management on the touch screen so we don't have to pause the game if we don't want to. Worked great in Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD.

Steven Bowser Oh I've seen this, but still there is no denying the convenience of on the go management. Like in this video they paused the game for link to eat food and get some health back. I would absolutely love to be able to simply tap on food in the middle of a battle without pausing so he can eat and replenish health. And that's just one of many reasons why I hope the Gamepad's touch screen can optionally be utilized in such a way. I know that the Switch version wouldn't be able to do this (unless some sort of second screen option is available for the system like maybe the ability to connect a Wii U gamepad to the device, but that seems unlikely), but I have a Wii U and if the Wii U has that option while the Switch doesn't, then I'd actually be more likely to buy the Wii U version over the Switch version even though I do intend to buy a Switch.
MikeBWhiting They did show the Wii U Gamepad being used as a map screen at E3. I don't think you can eat on the go though because it seems like a little cutscene has to play to show Link eating.
Steven Bowser I'm not sure if the cutscene is necessary though. like yah show it if you bring up the pause menu, or if you do it in real time, just have your health replenish without the animation. there are simple solutions to such issues.

Dear Nintendo, please ignore all of the "frame lag" haters out there and please keep expanding gameplay because that is what makes this game so appealing and amazing. I love it so far and I cant wait to see more gameplay elements being implemented and I am so excited for the final product. I would just hate to see you stop expanding and instead work on locking it at 60.
As I watched this entire thing I lost faith in the spoiled nature of this fan base. It's disgusting. This game looks beautiful, I noticed nothing wrong, and I just enjoy the fact that this beautiful adventure is coming to us at all, are you all so disgustingly spoiled that something I (as a modern gamer who has been into this series since A Link to the Past and understand things like graphical importance that is relevant nowadays) didn't even notice once is annoying you all? What is wrong with everyone? You're getting a great game, that as it is now I've already considered a masterpiece. I'm not attempting to invoke an argument, or say you can't have an opinion, but as I see it this game looks beautiful and well made. I think we should all just be happy we have it and grow up please. But, by all means, be upset with it if you want, I just know what I like and I'm satisfied with what I see, so don't mind my general opinion if you don't feel like it, thank you.
James Swartz just having finished playing battlefield in 60+fps, I can see why some people are complaining. the framerate is pretty sketchy, but rewatching it a couple more times, I adjusted to it. i don't think the framerate will be much of a problem unless it really drops dramatically at key moments of the game.

I agree, it definitely does look beautiful. However, I noticed dips in FPS at some points in the video, which concerns me. I guess it's to be expected, since this game supposedly pushes the Wii U to it's limits. If it is apparently a big problem, I may consider getting it for the Switch.
I haven't even had a chance to experience PS3 / Wii / 360 graphics yet. I won't be complaining about this, needless to say.

It's the Wii U version with its 0.35 TFLOPS, 1gb of RAM, and a bunch of other Wii U specs that I don't fully recall right now... but it's weak. I don't want to talk about the Switch yet because we still don't know its specs.

I love this open direction Nintendo is going for. in the previous zelda games, we were limited to the places and items we can utilize. now with this game, you can go almost anywhere, collect a ton of items, and use the weapons of every enemy(that you can hold of course). Totally buying it.

It's probably a problem with the capture. The game is probably performing at 30 fps and the capture's only recording at like 23 fps for some reason.
LogicalLamp Yeah it was a 60fps video too. What we're seeing here is probably pretty close to how it actually runs. They've still got a fair bit of time to fix it up though. It's probably not going to be the smoothest game around which is a shame but what can you do. Buy a Switch I suppose assuming it's an upgrade on there. Look at how the original Dark Souls ran on consoles, the world was amazing enough to make it kind of forgivable. Mostly lol

It´s because it´s basically the entire video, for comparison, look up any Wind Waker HD video for example where the video can be played at 720p60 or 1080p60 and you´ll see a glaring difference in smoothness.

Play a game at 60fps, then play a game at 30fps, then play a game at 15fps. It's all about the motion, when you turn the camera, fast movement, etc.

This is fantastic, i love how the whole game doesnt just look like the great plateau. I love this mossy and forest like setting. Also, Link with a good shield and some good weapons with some nice clothes.

The variety of enemies is awesome. I'm happy to see some stronger enemies that can deal a lot of damage. They'll certainly raise the stakes of the battles and make them more challenging. Hopefully the boss fights will be great! I'm also glad to see more diverse weapons. It would be cool if Link can pick up and shoot the electric arrows the Lizalfos use, though maybe he'll need a magic spell/rune or an enchanted bow to fire them properly.

thank you Nintendo for releasing a Wii U version. That was the sole reason why I bought a Wii U and was disappointed when I heard it was only for the NX. don't get me wrong Nintendo, I love Mario kart and Mario Maker a lot but I think a new Zelda game should always be a launch title for future Nintendo systems.
psovegeta they never said it was only for the NX. And the only time they showed it "running on the NX" (in quotes cause it was added in post so we can't really know) was the NX reveal trailer. As someone who kinda did the same thing, it's kinda ridiculous to buy a console for a game before it even gets a release date announced...or announced in my case lol. I'm still satisfied though cause I got Xenoblade and Smash. That's all I need for my Wii U to have been worth it, and I got a heck of a lot more than that...eventually #earlyadopterproblems
