Who Sang "Bohemian Rhapsody" the Best?

Can these singers actually BEAT Freddie Mercury?
Remember to like and subscribe or I will hunt you down and whisper "please, Senpai" in your ear.
Today we have a bit of a special edition of Who Sang It Better. I watch a compilation of four famous artists and singers singing Queen's classic rock anthem 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and choose who I think sang it best. Except for the one and only Freddie Mercury we get to listen to Brendon Urie, Adam Lambert and Marc Martel. There is some really good singing in this!

    • Billie Holiday's most epic album was recorded while Billie was absolutely wasted blind. The director/conducter/producer(?) was loosing his mind while trying to get the songs out of Billie. But afterwards when he listened the tracks putting the thing together he realized this album was Billie's greatest. She sings off beat, voice cracking and mumbling, but with such emotional depth that it chills you to your bones.

  • Couple of things. Panic! at the Disco are the only ones who do the operatic section live. (Everyone in the band sings different harmonies and then there are additional recorded layered harmonies.) Even Queen with Adam still uses the original recorded track. I wish someone would make a compilation with Marc Martel singing it in a concert and then comparing it to different videos from Panic!, Queen and Queen with Adam. It would be a better way to compare everyone.

    • Queen never preformed the operatic part live (hence why Adam and Freddie are never shown on video doing it), they used it as time to change costumes, and for Freddie to have a bit of a vocal rest because of the nodules on his vocal chords which would become more inflamed as tours progressed, that's why he always sounds better during the first show rather than the later shows since they basically did a show every night.

    • Rami didnt sing in the movie. From my knowledge and from trying to look all over cant find anywhere, where he actually sings to prove he did. Sure he might of actually "sung" in the movie but not had his voice used. Most of it was Marc Martel and possibly someone else. I mean if I am wrong, then I'll obviously take it back but from trying to find a single video of Rami singing, I havent had any luck at all. And not including the singing on set because might as well be a background recording in all fairness.

  • They really didn't try to choose a good performance by Freddie and the whole isolated voice thing was on purpose to show his mistakes more. However, Freddie often didn't reach the studio quality live. He sang his voice to death, but many people prefer his live performances, because he was such a beast on stage. Even on a bad day he held every stadium audience in the palm of his hand. It wasn't just about how perfect he could reach his high notes, it was all of him and that's why the “proper“ footage of the same recording was sooo much better. There are better vocalists than Freddie, but there's no better frontman.

      @johannduplessis3467@johannduplessis34674 жыл бұрын
    • @@johannduplessis3467 Some even say he might've gone beyond the 4 octave range, but that's very debatable and there's no general oppinion, if he was a barritone or a tenor, because he mostly sang in a tenor range, but could also go lower if he wanted to (he sings really low in some songs on the Barcelona Album for example and sounds like a different person, it's crazy). However, vocal range does not equal good vocalist. Freddie didn't have much professional training and his style of singing was very damaging to his vocal cords + a very grueling tour plan. He was a force of nature, but couldn't make the damages to his cords magically disappear, therefore he couldn't always recreate live what he did in the studio - and that's completely normal for many singers. What's so special about him is his stage presence, his charisma and his bigger than life persona. He had this special gift to connect with his audience super easily. Some of his live performances were on point, others not so much, but audiences loved him even on a bad day, because he was ... well, the whole package of “Freddie Mercury“. At least we can be sure the studio recordings are all Queen, because that was long before Autotune was a thing. Freddie was a super special singer, that's without any question, anyone can hear and see that even without a musical background.

  • I love how Adam Lambert makes it his own. He's in a unique position where he's actually being put in Mercury's role, and had he not made it intentionally his own... He'd forever be compared to Mercury. And that isn't what the remainder of Queen wanted. They didn't want a new Mercury, they wanted a new vocalist. Adam Lambert gives a wildly powerful, and unique, performance. Also worth noting, Mercury skipped some of the falsetto, and went for the note naturally. Which is absolutely wild. Marc Martel is the closest in similarity to Mercury, but was also the only "studio" version, whereas all three of the other performances were done live, and likely toward the ends of the performance (I don't know the actual order of when Bohemian Rhapsody was played during the respective sets... But I'm assuming everyone understands that if you lead the set with such a powerful song... there's really nothing that can follow it. It's -that- powerful). Everyone really rocked the hell out of it, but I just can't picture taking the crown from Mercury, here. When you factor in the performance, the legacy, and everything that lead up to that exact moment at that exact place... Mercury is still one of the most awe inspiring performers we'll probably ever have. Even on an off day, what that man produced was absolutely magnificent. I'd say it went Mercury, Lambert, Martel, and Urie. With that said... All the performers were phenomenal, regardless. Gold stars for everyone!

  • Ok so at 3:48 what was going on was a kind of throat bass which is a half-fry that thickens the sound and is mainly used in Mongolian throat singing and beatboxing. It was due to the switch between vocal registers which unintentionally accessed the half fry register. Throat bass is almost the same as subharmonic but doesn’t produce the undertone

    • BathTimeTyler It was freddie's second night in montreal and he had a rough throat at the time, he was advised by his doctors to not perform, regardless, he put on a show with no in ear monitors, meaning it was difficult to hear himself with the music blaring.
