Can these singers actually BEAT Freddie Mercury?
Remember to like and subscribe or I will hunt you down and whisper "please, Senpai" in your ear.
Today we have a bit of a special edition of Who Sang It Better. I watch a compilation of four famous artists and singers singing Queen's classic rock anthem 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and choose who I think sang it best. Except for the one and only Freddie Mercury we get to listen to Brendon Urie, Adam Lambert and Marc Martel. There is some really good singing in this!

Freddie
Yea
Yessssssssssssssss
Freddie singing his own song is still the best, he literally sang Bohemian Rhapsody once while drunk (and playing the piano part perfectly), improvised on the spot and still one of the best performance of Bohemian Rhapsody
Billie Holiday's most epic album was recorded while Billie was absolutely wasted blind. The director/conducter/producer(?) was loosing his mind while trying to get the songs out of Billie. But afterwards when he listened the tracks putting the thing together he realized this album was Billie's greatest. She sings off beat, voice cracking and mumbling, but with such emotional depth that it chills you to your bones.

That was Live Aid
@@lightningj8954 ya but on we are the Champion
Yeah. When he had his aids right?
you're getting This mixed up with Live aid, Freddie purposely never went too high during most of his performances due to his problem with developing vocal nodules, as well as to save his voice so that he was able to perform well consistently throughout the concert without straining it.
Couple of things. Panic! at the Disco are the only ones who do the operatic section live. (Everyone in the band sings different harmonies and then there are additional recorded layered harmonies.) Even Queen with Adam still uses the original recorded track. I wish someone would make a compilation with Marc Martel singing it in a concert and then comparing it to different videos from Panic!, Queen and Queen with Adam. It would be a better way to compare everyone.
Queen is so much older now. It’s not right to say that they’re the only ones. Queen did in their day. Now they do it for fun/money. But voices change as you get older. B
Had to have seen the opera part sung by Brendon, it's just amazing what he and the band do!
Freddie is such a good singer, they had to handicap him by only using his worst clips so that everyone else could sound good

They all sound good. That’s why their jobs are singing
Hahhh exaclty that is how good he is, doesn't even have to do his best
How did they manage to find Freddie's absolute worst performance lmao
His worst preformance was still really good
I know, I feel as though that recording of Freddie was done while he was struggling with aids. It may be a reason he's thrown off a bit. It also isn't fair that they chose one of Freddie's worst takes of the song when they should have just used a more average clip, or at least a recording that was closer to the release of the song as Freddie wouldn't be as sick and tired of rinse and repeat
It was Brendon's worst performance too... He sings a lot better in the official live one
Swarnava Sengupta the studio version of that cover is a little...lifeless? idk, but the live is 1) better in general and 2) better for comparison of performance

Freddie sweating and dying after 2 hour concert. Roomie: yea he is tired of this song its like he doesn’t want to sing it
It was very tiring for Freddie to sing a whole two hours concert (every night for several months because of touring) in the way he did. He had a very "chesty" and powerful way of singing that hurt his voice. Plus he had vocal nodules so his stamina was very reduced.
Yea I was thinking that Joel doesnt seem to realise that this is always at the end of a concert, Freddy would be exhausted
Freddie in his grave: y the heck roomie I thought I left a good mark
@ Of course Freddie also literately ran around on the whole stage.
Brendon was in the exact same situation, you cal literally see the swear pouring out of him 💀
I'm a bit disappointed that they did not include the "galileo" and "let me go" part because in those parts Brendon is killing it.
Queen never preformed the operatic part live (hence why Adam and Freddie are never shown on video doing it), they used it as time to change costumes, and for Freddie to have a bit of a vocal rest because of the nodules on his vocal chords which would become more inflamed as tours progressed, that's why he always sounds better during the first show rather than the later shows since they basically did a show every night.

The reason Freddy wasn’t singing it the same when you first saw it in this review was because he was quite literally dying at the time. His vocals were were failing and that’s the best he could do. The movie even shows it.
Da faq you’re talking about? This performance of Freddie’s is from 1981, i e 10 full years BEFORE Freddie’s death! He was not diagnosed until ‘87, 6 years after this particular performance. Honestly with how he spoke of Mary Austin, it's hard to imagine he wasn't head over heels for anyone but her. It's worth a read into.
Marc Martel did lend his voice for the movie Bohemian Rapsody. He did parts that Rami couldnt sing and that of course Mercury couldnt. They did however use some of vocal stems from Queen master tapes
Rami didnt sing in the movie. From my knowledge and from trying to look all over cant find anywhere, where he actually sings to prove he did. Sure he might of actually "sung" in the movie but not had his voice used. Most of it was Marc Martel and possibly someone else. I mean if I am wrong, then I'll obviously take it back but from trying to find a single video of Rami singing, I havent had any luck at all. And not including the singing on set because might as well be a background recording in all fairness.
Warg I think Rami’s voice is only mixed in enough to make it look like the music matches the video. But I don’t know I have no sources as well, but I suspect that if his voice is in there at all it’s very minimal.
@@seankingdon8346 Nope, Rami's voice during singing wasn't recorded. The songs were mainly sung by Freddie or sometimes by Marc Martel (Happybirthday, Love of my life, The Smile song)
Jako Taki fun fact though they brought back the original singer from smile (I forget his name) to record doing all right
If you look at Spotify you can see that all the songs on the bohemian rhapsody track are queen originals and are dubbed over the movie. I also own the official bohemian rhapsody record for the movie it gives near to all credit to queen and Freddie mercury himself so mar Martel may of helped Rami Malek with how to sing the songs but all the songs in the movie are queen songs from the studio dubbed in!
Marc Martel has the Freddie Mercury growl which I think really makes it. Also I've seen that clip that they used of Freddie, and it was very late into a performance so I think he was losing his voice or something. 😂

I'm pretty sure he's reacting to a compilation video, not his fault, other than the fact that it means he put less effort into researching
@William Vazquez that is by no means the worst Borhap performance by Freddie. In fact, it's one of the better ones. Check out Bohemian Rhapsody in Tokyo 1979 ;D
*Marc
I honestly it was all bad to be fair... They should've at least included the full clip of their performance... Like when Brendon hit the high note... 😒
All of them have better live performances. Marc was not live here though like the others.
They really didn't try to choose a good performance by Freddie and the whole isolated voice thing was on purpose to show his mistakes more. However, Freddie often didn't reach the studio quality live. He sang his voice to death, but many people prefer his live performances, because he was such a beast on stage. Even on a bad day he held every stadium audience in the palm of his hand. It wasn't just about how perfect he could reach his high notes, it was all of him and that's why the “proper“ footage of the same recording was sooo much better. There are better vocalists than Freddie, but there's no better frontman.
I almost cried reading this, so true
He was registered on a 4 octave vocal range. Not many singers with such a huge range. You don't know what your talking about
@@johannduplessis3467 Some even say he might've gone beyond the 4 octave range, but that's very debatable and there's no general oppinion, if he was a barritone or a tenor, because he mostly sang in a tenor range, but could also go lower if he wanted to (he sings really low in some songs on the Barcelona Album for example and sounds like a different person, it's crazy). However, vocal range does not equal good vocalist. Freddie didn't have much professional training and his style of singing was very damaging to his vocal cords + a very grueling tour plan. He was a force of nature, but couldn't make the damages to his cords magically disappear, therefore he couldn't always recreate live what he did in the studio - and that's completely normal for many singers. What's so special about him is his stage presence, his charisma and his bigger than life persona. He had this special gift to connect with his audience super easily. Some of his live performances were on point, others not so much, but audiences loved him even on a bad day, because he was ... well, the whole package of “Freddie Mercury“. At least we can be sure the studio recordings are all Queen, because that was long before Autotune was a thing. Freddie was a super special singer, that's without any question, anyone can hear and see that even without a musical background.
How to Play the Solo: 1: You have to be Brian May 2:You can't be Brian May
nah
its a pretty easy solo to play but a hard solo to master, the tabs are simple enough but getting it to sound just like brian may is a challenge

I’m always awed by Freddie at live aid b/c the band said he had laryngitis the days before & on the day he performed! Still sounded unbelievable.
I love how Adam Lambert makes it his own. He's in a unique position where he's actually being put in Mercury's role, and had he not made it intentionally his own... He'd forever be compared to Mercury. And that isn't what the remainder of Queen wanted. They didn't want a new Mercury, they wanted a new vocalist. Adam Lambert gives a wildly powerful, and unique, performance. Also worth noting, Mercury skipped some of the falsetto, and went for the note naturally. Which is absolutely wild. Marc Martel is the closest in similarity to Mercury, but was also the only "studio" version, whereas all three of the other performances were done live, and likely toward the ends of the performance (I don't know the actual order of when Bohemian Rhapsody was played during the respective sets... But I'm assuming everyone understands that if you lead the set with such a powerful song... there's really nothing that can follow it. It's -that- powerful). Everyone really rocked the hell out of it, but I just can't picture taking the crown from Mercury, here. When you factor in the performance, the legacy, and everything that lead up to that exact moment at that exact place... Mercury is still one of the most awe inspiring performers we'll probably ever have. Even on an off day, what that man produced was absolutely magnificent. I'd say it went Mercury, Lambert, Martel, and Urie. With that said... All the performers were phenomenal, regardless. Gold stars for everyone!

Smells like a MM troll considering this account was just added in the last 2 weeks. Lol😂
@slynnc kitty yes lol😂
"Can you perform under pressure?" "No, but I can try Bohemian rhapsody."
Piplup The Master my dad has told me that joke before ahaha
omg that’s genius
That one goes on my next job interview!
@@Evisonsl Good luck!
Freddie’s part when he sing “I don’t wanna die” he puts emotion in the word “die”
I'm new here but Joel what you done! 😱 Putting Freddy in the last place! Are you crazy! 🤣
After reaching 11:30 of this video my hatred towards u have decreased a bit so i resubscribed u
"I don't care what you do with my music, just don't make it boring." - Freddie Who sang it better comes down to taste, and no one person can truly do it better. But the person who'd we would all choose be our first choice to see again will always be Freddie.
Amen brother.
Yes somebody with culture
Great comment !
Yes,absolutely
Definitely.
Dude, Marc Martel is just Freddie Mercury on his second account.
Yes, perhaps Freddie Mercury forgot his password
Freddie must have gotten rebooted in a different way
Maxim Fernandes AIDS
He got hacked by AIDS
He got a virus.
Nowadays, people prefer personality/attitude/charisma more over talent, that's just what I observe. And it's so good to see how Freddie both got the talent and very strong charisma.
What’s great about Marc is that it’s natural.
I’m upset that the muppets cover wasn’t in this
omg right i was expecting that...
Yeah! They know that's the best one....😏😂
i wish :¬\
The muppet was presenting the video
THERES A MUPPET COVER 😂
I’m mad the clips for Freddie did him dirty
Yep
Ok so at 3:48 what was going on was a kind of throat bass which is a half-fry that thickens the sound and is mainly used in Mongolian throat singing and beatboxing. It was due to the switch between vocal registers which unintentionally accessed the half fry register. Throat bass is almost the same as subharmonic but doesn’t produce the undertone
The "Holy Moley" at Brian's age gave me a good chuckle
It’s Freddie. He was the best. But beebo did great.
Mr. Disco
Man it’s kinda unfair comparing studio and live versions
When do we ever see studio versions in this video?
Killer Queen YEAH LIKE ROOMIE HASNT DONE ANY HOMEWORK TO THE DIFFERENCES OF LIVE AND STUDIO AND THE FACT THAT HE REALLY DOESNT KNOW HE SANG 2 HOURS IN CONCERTS SO HIS VOCALS GET ALL ROUGH AND HE CHANGES HIS WAY OF SINGING *BRUH*
@@llacrymossa Bro I'm pretty sure Roomie didn't mean this video seriously, he's very sarcastic and this comment section is going crazy about him not praising Freddie as much as they want to
Matias Pereyra you Must be blind with marc lmao
@@shayjaqueline Thats him singing the entire damn thing live. Freddie in montreal however has been edited, and his vocal cracks havr been dubbed
Mark martel isnt trying to sound like Freddy he is using HIS real voice!
Marc did all the performances for the movie
Am I the only one who is here that likes your channel but can’t sing if my life depended on it
Summer Fjetland you are spitting straight facts 👍♥️
Tbh, I sound like a dying donkey when I attempt high notes 😂
You can with training :) just ear training and voice understanding
Saaaaaaame ♥️♥️
Me to
Freddie was exhausted after a 2 hour concert that’s why.
And? In the nicest way possible, you've gotta learn to deal with that. Brendon urie play's this song toward the end of his concert too and puts just as much passion into it as every other song.
BathTimeTyler It was freddie's second night in montreal and he had a rough throat at the time, he was advised by his doctors to not perform, regardless, he put on a show with no in ear monitors, meaning it was difficult to hear himself with the music blaring. So "in the nicest way possible," he did the best given the conditions.
@@steven7285 bro they were just saying that wasn't the reason. They never said freddie did bad. They were just saying most artists do this song towards the end so this wasn't the reason.
bethany busby i never made the assumption that he said freddie was bad, i simply stated that the example he gave [Brendon Urie] was not comparable as freddie had a lot more going against him to justify a poor performance than brendon
I gave you 69 likes. Thank you
1.Freddie 2.Drunk Freddie 3.Freddie without his mustache 4.Marc 5.Brenden
3:40 am i the only one who thinks freddie sang perfectly here? roomie says he wasn't "on his best performance" but his voice sounds amazing to me
Isn't that when Freddie fell ill and he's starting to lose his voice
No or if he did have it he would of only caught like a couple weeks before and not had any symptoms
He had aids that time so ye
He stopped performing live before his illness and had a hard time performing live when he came back together with the Queen
I don't know but i think they should have chosen a better video
Yea
Ive seen Brendon sing this live and so many more videos of him singing it and hes so much better than the clip. Also the Freddie video is rubbish he really is better than that.
They should’ve done the studio recording. I think, even though being a huge Queen fan, Freddie was WAY TOO MUCH overhyped for what he actually does.
yeah they should’ve done the studio recording or at least his official live performance
...Tf is that supposed to mean? Well.. I know its your opinon and stuff.. and I respect it.. except give him a break, he's so overworked, and he cant get it perfect all the time, and his editors (or roomie, idk) picked the worst video of him singing BoRhap, and his voice was isolated so it gave him a disadvantage.
@@ardinaattia8 stop making problems that are not there! You litterally said EXACTLY what i said. That the Freddy clip used was rubbish.
@@heidibaltom8138 Stfu, man 😂😂 you didnt say anything that has to do with what I said. All you said was he was rubbish and he's better than that. Maybe you could have EDITED it instead of being a total asshole
