@@Tenncup76 dog, there’s two sides to every story, and this has been addressed. Tony himself acknowledges that he was likely not the first to do the trick. Just the first in competition. And I know there’s question about whether or not the xgames officials were gatekeeping tas from competing, but look into what he was going thru during the time. He broke his back and his face, and was barely on the rebound at the time of that contest. Nothing was stolen from anyone. It’s like saying if I do the biggest kickflip that I stole the trick from Rodney.
I usually tell people off for disagreeing with final tallies, but man this ruling just broke my heart
I think they need to pick judges who aren't blind next time. Gui and Moto both totally robbed.

Eddie and Moto’s runs were way more technical, balanced and steezy, in my opinion. Tbh I’m glad the judges aren’t rewarding tight spins that happen mostly below the coping, otherwise skating will go the path of roller blading and figure skating-where the best spinner wins. Now if the kid can build a line out beyond that like Shawn White, well, then he deserves to win.

That 1st run by Moto was incredible, literally jaw dropping.
Moto's run was underscored, but just wow - vert progression overall has really gone nuts over the past 10 years.
I don't even think the judges knew what to even do with those runs. Sick.
Congrats to damestoy, but Moto should have had gold!! Man I watched and rewatch that run was super insane Nobody was doing what Moto did. Bet he was let down by his first score as I was.

Yes, that run seemed a bit underscored. He should at least have gotten the bronze, maybe the silver. He has been doing the same tricks for years, though. Maybe that have something do do with it. But Wilkins does the same run over and over again too, and was a bit overscored ... Great to see Tom Schaar getting a full run in. Vert is always fun to watch.
All I saw was the 540 kickflip indy and the 5 no grab... but I feel the judges got too excited too early... Moto deserved a better score...

BLIND 1 ft FS CAB to CRAIL Varial 360 making him turn FS cab 1 footed while grabbing CRAIL and spinning the board for the finished trick board spinning 540. I am a master of vert on XL and i specifically watch this and its just a glitch in the matrix to be honest- at least from my side of the game of life. 37 years of watching vert and not once have I ever said this trick could win contests as an ender if all you did was normal grab back n fortch bs to fs. and he did it 5th trick
i ran all the way down stairs to my car to bang my skateboard on the ground after motos first round, one of the best ive ever seen

I’m quite shocked at the rulings today. Gui had an IMPRESSIVE run. And I’m definitely not on his bandwagon, I’m still a bit upset about his showboating last year, but the kid put down an impeccable run at the end there, and it deserved far above a 80.33. That’s just terrible ruling on the judges part. He should have cracked the top 3.

I'm pretty sure everyone there was a bit stunned as well... I mean they gave us a fifth run, and then took it away moments later. It was a weird competition.
I’ll be honest. I had to rewind it twice because I dazed out watching it. Somehow-and this is crazy to say-but it’s just not impressive anymore. He does flip his board some, but the steeze and intensity and technical tricks of the others are just more impressive.
I honestly think the showboating was made a bigger deal than it is. He's a kid who is the only person in the world who can land a 1080 on a vert ramp. Of course, he's going to get cocky. He got humbled by the judges, he learned a lesson, and now we're seeing him evolve some of his tricks more. Time to move on.

Was it just me, or was the judging way wrong in this. I felt many athletes were robbed here. You can tell, and you can see in their faces. They know. Something is off here
I understand that technical skills are also highly valued, however, given that Gui is out here doing 900s in his runs cleanly but only scoring 80s is weird. It's a very specific skill that rarely anyone else can do at all, let alone in a run, and that should count for something significant. Moto's run as well, while comprised of moves he's done before, was still incredibly impressive and very clean. That first run by Moto was absolutely everything; this was questionable judging at best, not sure what happened here.

It’s obvious that the judges don’t like what Gui’s doing, and don’t like him to win.
I like Gary but the man has no business announcing a vert contest (as he will tell you). For once I would like to watch an x games with decent announcers and fair judging.
He’s done it the last few years. Pretty mush since they’ve ditched true big air and gone low budget. These things don’t get many views these days.
Yeah surely there are some old vert heads that can commentate and actually call the tricks accurately. He's just not the right guy for the job

Yeah... they've seen it... like when Schaar threw 900's down in Vert Runs back in LA in 2012... 5 for 5 that Vert Comp. It's not rocket science, people. He'll grow and come back stronger. Good for his Best Trick abilities, but his Vert Runs have to grow. As for Moto, I saw that run in 2015 when he got Silver...

How can judges possibly judge tricks if they can't even do it themselves? When your judging the best people on the cutting edge of innovation in a discipline like this, the only people that are even remotely valid judges are their current peers. I doubt all the judges can throw 900's in the middle of their run everytime or 540 impossible variations whatever the heck thing moto shibata does.
Moto's first run was the best run of the competition. Gui was underscored but I think once you have a rep for being a "spinner" its hard to get rid of that rep. He's also not going very high on his more technical airs.
What’s with the judges not being able to name any of the actual tricks? Look at X Games footage from 20 years ago and they’ll shout out every trick within a couple of seconds
