I fail to understand why people want to stand on the outside end of a curve. I reckon it is the most dangerous spot to stand... Nice video, once again. I like these thematic videos.

You'd be surprised that a rally car could also clip you in half if you're standing on the inside. I reckon they should make something like titanium trees for the outside of the corners that spectators can hide behind if the car seems to be losing control.

I was thinking the same thing. I know little about this racing, but I think I would be standing a bit before the turn so I could watch them go by and be a little safe it things get out of hand.
These spectators are so funny. Choosing a spot where the cars could head straight towards them.
Heyem Hehe as a man who attends many Motorsport events, I can say that these people are completely unaware of understeer, tyre failures, or mechanical failures that can put them at risk. Even on straights, shit happens. Be alert my friends.

They must do it on purpose. Surely that many viewers are not that dense. They must like dodging out of the way risking injury and life.

Group B was mostly stopped forever because of these braindead spectators. The cars themselves are very secure for the drivers and copilots but what can you do about the spectators you hit at 80kmh anyway ?

At 5:10 where the blue Honda comes off the road right toward the photographer who, standing their ground, did not move an inch when the car came within inches and gracefully stopped mere feet away. Kudos to that photographer. Subject in frame from start to finish. No ground shots as they run for safety, this photographer proved their meddle by keeping stand and framing subject. Great job.
The only people crazier than Rally drivers are Rally spectators.

4:53 Still haven't been back to Wallerfield since this, I heard they made several changes to the track, but this incident just made me love Rallying that much more, a track cut into the hillside with spectators far away. For context, it was the very early days of our first actual racetrack in decades, the safety of the venue wasn't really considered, it was just a place for us to race that wasn't the street. The stand where all the people are that the car launched into was always there but there's another stand adjacent to it that runs along the straight, it's not a very big track so there actually aren't that many good places to place spectators to actually view the race, and right where this incident happened is actually a couple feet higher than the racetrack, It's actually a sharp edge but the FD had mowed it down and created a ramp. Some of the best footage of cars I have is standing in that very stand watching cars slide literal inches away from us, they actually moved the stand back from the corner a couple times, we always knew it was dangerous, and my sister and I had literally planned bailouts for exactly this, we always stood near the end in case, but it never happened because once the car made an attempt to turn, it'd clear the spectators. But in this incident, the silver Civic panicked when he saw the FD spin out and didn't turn at all and vaulted basically onto and over the FD into the crowd. We were supposed to go that weekend but I'd ended up working a double the day before and was too tired, and only on seeing this video again did I realize just how long it's been since I've gone to Wallerfield for circuit racing, I've been back for drag racing tho.

I love the dog one 5.55. I do wonder where the responsibility rests and where boundaries lie. If some one goes over your bonnet and then gets up again are you expected to stop and check on the situtation . eg for broken bones or would your sponsors expect you to carry on?

I am more worried about the animals than I am about the people in these clips. At first I thought i was a bad person then it hit me. The spectators chose to be there, standing right by the track like idiots whereas those animals had no clue what was going on. Whew ... worried myself there. Great clips!

That's what I'm talking about. It's cool to see compilations that are unusual and with the plethora of material that Racingfail can draw from you guys are perfect to make it happen. Gotte correct you though: the crash @ 5:00 actually was a fatal one. Atleast 1, maybe 2 spectators died in that one, can't remember exactly. Africa was it? Brazil? Maybe Portugal... Hey, do a crash compilation on the early days of racing. Or speedway motorcycles. Or sidecars... Happy New Year.
Yes it was and I think it's uncool (very un-Racing-Fail-like) to add it in the supposed non-fatal compilation.
Judging by their past record I'd say it's safe to say they were not aware. Mistakes happen. Having said that it is my opinion that racing fatalities shouldn't be hidden away in some dark corner like a dirty little secret and thus pretend it never happened. I think that would be dishonoring the memory of the fallen person(s) in question. Everytime I strapped in I knew the risk; we all do. A sobering reminder of how dangerous racing really is is a good thing, driver, spectator or marshall alike. If we hide the reality we are banishing the memory of the fallen from existence rather than keeping their memory alive. Not to mention learning from what happened and preventing it from happening again. We've come a long way since the t-shirt and lap belt days...
mikedehoogh black flag race photos I get you, and I agree. And I don't want to banish or hide something - there are other compilations for that. If something is basically marked as "safe to watch" I'd like to know that it'll be safe. Sometimes I don't have the stomach for it, sometimes I watch these things with my son. And it wasn't gory, either ... just a coincidence that this accident was one I remembered as being tragic.
