review of the Acer Nitro 5 (2022) model with a intel I5-12500H processor and a RTX 3060 GPU. It does somethings right but there's a few things that shouldn't exist on a laptop at this price point. Watch for the full review!

No way. Not a chance
In my country, yes absolutely best bang for the bucks, best thermals, best upgradeability, best price/performance, what do you expected more of a budget gaming laptop that cost only slightly over 1000$? The legion 5pro however is way more expensive considering it's a higher tier range which in my country costs about over 1900$
Oh yeah, do you know if the 3050 version of the nitro 2022 have a mux switch or it's only available on the 3060 version and above? I heard someone said they updated the BIOS and received the mux switch on i5 12500h rtx 3050 nitro
@@thaibinh6585 as mentioned in the video 3060 and above
@@MatthewMoniz thanks, and about the screen I both agreed and disagreed with you. I agree that all budget lineups nowadays should at least have 100% srgb but in my country the other laptops with the same price range as the nitro still have this poor 65% srgb screen, i can name you some such as TUF, Rog Strix G15, Victus, Dell G15, Ideapad gaming 3, Msi GF66/65/63, Msi Bravo 15, so I don’t see the nitro screen is worst in the market, it’s just every brands still keep puting the worst screen in budget laptops in order to cut the price, it’s normal
I know the battery life seems disappointing to you, but I honestly think it's a good thing for budget products. Gaming on battery is a joke even on the most expensive hardware, and I personally am able to work around a shorter battery life in exchange for lower cost.
Exactly no one has long gaming sessions on battery, it just doesn’t happen even with a system that has a beefier battery
You guys are gaming on battery 😩
There's an AMD model of Acer Nitro 5 with AMD Ryzen 5000 series (because the 6000 series doesn't come out yet) and it has much better battery life in light tasks, with 7-9 hours of KZhead playback on battery in most of the reviews
@@sihamhamda47 lol are you sure because real life practical battery usage of upto 56whr battery gaming laptop never exceeded 6hrs
@@100uschallenge3 Oh I forgot to mention browsing and office tasks, in most reviews it averages around 6-7 hours in power saver mode for that tasks
This one is the best laptop for me. I was looking for a laptop that's cheap & high spec. I don't really use the screen because I have an external monitor & I also used mechanical keyboard. And I need a laptop because I live in an apartment and I don't usually stay at home for too long. A budget and portable 3060 gets the job done
The details on the screen quality, including metrics in the color gamut makes this video and review the most important in the internet for this laptop. I’ve watched quite a few of these reviews, and vote this the quintessential review for potential Nitro 5 buyers…
The Nitro series used to be less expensive low budget quality products, now they are more expensive, while regaining the same old keyboard, display, heat managment, battery...
They got MUX switch too and heat management is completely different for 3060 and 3070ti models
they improved them, but there are better choices for that price
nah, they are still cheap and still good
The pricing varies with region and time. So it is best to compare all available laptops.
@@J23_96bulls in my country acer price is peerless
I really appreciate Acer for still packing 2.5" drive. 3 storages in one laptop is nothing I could find on any other brand. The battery downside is rather disappointing though. It was quite manageable when we were still in 8th or 9th gen Intel Core i5 CPU but somehow Intel H series since 10th gen consumes too much power and makes smaller battery struggle to provide acceptable battery life. And yes, that display is likely the biggest sin for this model.
Gigabyte g5 kd has 3 storage options and 1 is even 2.5 drive
m2.nvme ssd is the new standard
@@hoven-lh8wq The NVMEs consume more power than SSD ?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Great vid, Matt! Nitro 5 series has been surprisingly increasing price every year but to no innovation and big changes, screen reso is still not on par to top tier as you mentioned. It's like they use the same display and color calibration every year.
Probably due to the higher wattage GPU. If they still kept it at 100W it might just be lower in pricing. Not just the Nitro. The TUF series and Legion 5 non pro series all had a price hike after they added higher wattage components. I dunno for me if they kept the wattage only at 115W but do a tad more upgrades I'd probably just be satisfied for quality of life improvements.
I'm still happy and satisfied with my 2021 Model and I appreciate they adding a Muk Switch and all but yeah they shouldn't cheap out on the Display or Keyboard because it's kinda embarrassing. To the New Design I actually find it really slick and much more low key than it even was on the previous Model
I feel the same
there, I wish I had waited a little longer and buy the 2022 model instead of 2021, but the 2021 one is still fine
I have an Acer nitro and the keyboard is fine to use. They should have a better display.
They added a mux switch?? Which model do you have?
The keyboard is perfectly fine, it's just the display that's disappointing. I'm planning on getting an external monitor later for gaming purposes that i'll just hook this up to.
Currently the 12700H + RTX 3070 Ti model with a QHD 165Hz model is selling at just over $1700 and around $1550 with Student discount in Acer US Store which looks to me a better choice than their 3060 or lower GPU equuiped model. Also, one thing I like a out it that it has one Gen 2 10 Gbps Type-A port unlike all 5 Gbps Type-A ports in competition like 5i Pro. This is really helpful if you're transferring data from fast external ssds and helpful for creative professionals.
@@Xlub I think DDR4 is actually a blessing at this point because if you need to upgrade, you can go 32GB or 64GB at pretty cheaper price. For DDR5, the current 4800MHz DDR4 has very minimal impact on gaming or apps. But they're super costly and 32GB kit will cost a fortune without any actual performance improvement.
@@Xlub Badly. The Legion 5 is multiple tiers above the Nitro when it comes to build quality, ruggedness and thermals. That extra premium in the higher price tag of the Legion is worth the durability and quality which will prove itself as time passes. A Helios/Triton 300 will perform similarly (albeit very slightly less than a Legion in quality). The same cannot be said for a Nitro 5 in the long run as I used to own a 2020 model for about 2 years. It's a budget-grade level piece of trash that's not worth future headaches.
Competition has moved ahead while Nitro is still stuck in the past, the only thing they moved ahead with is the increased price.
Totally agree. Few yrs ago nitro is the top choice for budget gaming laptop but not now. Lenovo and gigabyte or asus tuf series is the better choice.
@@Khen3021 even hp omen can be found cheap
@@RizzY_RUS Lower GPU wattage.
@@Khen3021 the acer nitro is still going to sell like hot bread as it regards the cheaper models. But it's full time they upgrade the screen in the cheaper models. Lenovo Legion is the new standard now.
@@dalefrancis9414 idk, I am satisfied with 1660 ti doe
Just picked one up today. Mine is the i511400h with a GTX1660. I’ve been playing Squad at a blend of Epic/high settings and it is REALLY nice. Granted, I’m coming from a gtx1050 haha. My only real gripe is the brightness. It’s not nearly as bright as you may think. But, it is what it is.
Squad on steam??
Found this for $650 at best buy, based on what you said and showed I'm definitely getting this thing, not for over $1000 though
I hope they offer the option of a better screen atleast with the Nitro. Also, looking forward to the predator review.
I have the 2019 model I got in 2020, with a rtx 2060, 144hz, my display is good! Gonna keep for years!
Always love a Moniz review. Gotta do the livestreams soon man, I miss them so much

Will you suggest me this laptop for editing, gaming and streaming ?
hey i need ur suggestion...wich one is good.legion 5pro 16ach-35id or acer nitro 5 in that video?
Hey Matt, great video, just a couple of things I would like to ask: 1) There is a QHD 165hz panel option with much better colours, maybe you could ask them to send a sample to compare the 2 screens? 2) It would be great if, in due time, you could make a comparison of the lower options from different manufacturers, like this Acer, the Asus Tuf f15/a15, Dell g15, maybe Lenovo legion 5 (this one would be slightly above the ones I mentioned) Keep being the best!
QHD panel is the way to go
totally agreed! I hope Matt makes those videos
Actually Dell G15 and Legion 5 are on the same level. I own one and it is awesome.
They may have one but for this price they shouldn't have had this quality of a display
@@Rockstar-ej8xj agreed
As you mentioned that display is not upto the mark. I was planning to buy this but i7 version. Kindly suggest another laptop with same specs but with good display. But should have same specs
I have a question here, I have been looking at this modell: ACER Nitro 5 AN515-45-R6ZA, it has a 3060 , ryzen 7 5800H, 16gb of memory ddr4 2666hz, 144hz display 1080P with better srgb, the same layout for drives, and in my country it costs about 1 042,54 USD. So really only the design, the rgb on the keyboard and the port layout changed for 300 dollars?
Hi, may you say something about Acer Nitro 17(Intel CPU, rtx 4060)?
Hi Matthew, have you received the XPS 13 Plus yet, and are you planning to do a review of it?
I own a nitro an515-54 it's a good comp for a great budget, good old times when nitro 5 was a budget comp now the nitro 5 is expensive and still the same
shuld i get this or lenovo legion 5 with same specs but legion costs 1200 and nitro costs 1000 is it worth it to get the lenovo?
Thanks for the video. Display matters. It's the thing you keep looking at all day and the reason why I am also not going with any Dell or MSI cheaper laptops.
I've used a old hp laptop from like 2013 for a while now & i might consider buying this laptop, i needed some sort of upgrade anyway so to me it wouldn't really matter how good or bad the keyboard or display is.
Hey i am going to buy an laptop in 2 weeks i can go with acer nitro 5 rtx 3070 ti, 32 GB ram, 1 tb SSD, ryzen 7 6800H ,165 Hz 17.3 inch one or Asus tuf a15 with rtx 4060 16 GB ram 512 gb SSD Ryzen 7 7735hs which one should i go with ? (both are at same price)
Fire video but pls does this laptop have windows Hello either Fingerprint or face unlock? And also does it have Flip to start or boot from shutdown like what Lenovo laptops have?
Is it possible to update acer nitro sense software? Since I have the 2021 different the ntro sense this year looks so much different
Im not a big gamer too busy.. but i love to play ck3 or simple games. Is this a good laptop for ck3?
This can be bought on target right now for 700 I just got myself one pretty stoked to get it great video very informational

im glad acer still give sata slot on it. i hope helios series will have too but i pessimistic about it. most of other brand already remove sata slot just for 30 minute batteries life. ._.
I do not think I can do a 2.5 hardrive as I do not see a slot is it because mine the 17 screen version of this?
Yo, how do make it to 144 fps like that I mean like how do u setup it
Must be some power throttling cause that GPU should perform admirable at that power. A lot of power bricks are currently at 300Ws. The screen is definitely a weak points similar to the TUF series of this year. Still a tad too underwhelming. At least 80-90% sRGB would suit it well. The price hike is also probably due to the higher wattage components. It's the same as the TUF and Legion 5 non Pro series. Got higher power GPU at the expense of screen and keyboard, for the TUF anyways. At least it's a tad more powerful now. However if they kept the Nitro's GPU at 115W, get better displays and improve the keyboard while maintaining it's past strength it'll be a very good laptop in the long run, all while keeping it at $1200 ish price range. It's a solid starter laptops.
please review tuf f15 with i5 and 3060.. maybe the best budget friendly laptop there is..
I got one with a 12700H with a 3050 for 850 USD tax included, was it a good deal?
i just bought an i7 rtx3060.... believe me when I tell you that it is ridiculously loud! The fans are screaming playing classic WOW on lowest graphics settings. Im taking it back because it literally annoys everyone around me and drives me nuts. If i turn the graphic to 10 it sounds like a jet engine. Complete fail on ACERs part. my last laptop had a 1650 in it and a ryzen 5 and it NEVER bothered me with fan noise
Interesting mux switch but I think I will stay with my nitro 5800h 3060 for a while
I have had no issues with the battery and personally i think its great so far.
Finally! A review on this laptop. Thanks man!
Funny, I find this little thing very good actually. Although i have the RTX 1650 GPU, and started with 16 gb (Now 32), this thing is actually good despite the keyboard. I play VR on this thing alot and doesnt get above 85*c and have astonishing graphics. I like this version exept for the fact that the keyboard kinda' sucks
For me neither the display nor the battery life affects me cause I play on an external monitor connected to the laptop and I always have the charger plugged in when gaming 🙃
I use external everything on this (2021 version) and it’s amazing.
In my country, the nitro series is still the best budget lineup compare to other competitors such as Asus TUF, Rog which cost about 100-200$ more compared to the nitro. Also you shouldn't compare it with the Legion 5pro because they are on different level, the real competitor of the legion 5pro is the upcoming Helios 300 2022 which have 1440p 100% dcip3 screen, aluminum lid and keyboard, perkey rgb, aeroblade 3D fan technology cooling + liquid metal, better tuned for performance than the nitro

Hello im looking to buy my first laptop so can you reccomend me what is better asus rog ryzen 7 6800H 3060 or acer nitro 5 i7 12700H 3050 ti? asus 1700 euro nitro 5 1300 euro
Since last year Acer have implemented really low thermal and power limits to prevent overheating. Even the i9 Nitro 5 2021 only comes with just 180w adapter, deliberately trading full power for less heat.
Now they have 230w
2022 Nitro RTX3060 went to the opposite extreme, with 140W MGP, and higher for RTX3070Ti. This is as high as possible.
@@48peon the reviewer still said that the thermals are controlled well because when it reaches 90 degrees the laptop gets aggressive with the cooling. That is good.
@@dalefrancis9414 I can't wait to replace my old Nitro 5 with this. I'm broke, and rather have an i5 3060 vs i7 3050ti. And to have full power GPU with aggressive cooling is awesome. Last year, MSI was running 85w only on their low cost 3070. Very sad. Acer seems to be doing the right thing. Give us gamers the perf that we want.
which website should i buy the acer nitro 5 from?
This is one of the only options for a 3060 where used its around $850. Is there another option that's better at that price?
What if most of the workers leaving ACER during pandamic for the payment/personal issue and acer trying to come at top with the men left, here it comes let's copy some of those flagship aesthetics and create an insane hybrid and the outcome is this ACER NITRO 5 (2022) I'm not trying to insult anybody or ACER but ACER should try way more hard to stay in the competition.
I'm currently looking at at Acer Nitro, 15,6″ Full-HD 165 Hz IPS, i7-12700H, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, GeForce RTX 4060. I don't need a good display because I have an external monitor, don't need a good battery because I'll keep it plugged in and I don't need a good sound because I either use my sound system or headphones. Comparing to Lenovo, it actually looks better for my needs. Thoughts anyone?
I wish Acer would upgrade the battery to 90 Whr like those installed in the Asus gaming laptop and that it would also fit on the on the older 2021 and older Nitro's.
they won't make it as good as the helios or triton because they want more profit lol they intentionally make the nitro flawed so that people who care about those flaws would consider buy the more expensive ones same for the design
@@anzeiru5871 I've seen Helios with the same same small battery but Tritons I'm not sure. I was already about to buy the Apple M1 with 256 GB Storage and 8Gb RAM then I told the sales person I change my mind I'll get the Acer Nitro with Core I5, 512 GB storage, 8 GB RAM and GEFORCE RTX 3050. I really like the looks of the black keys with white keysides and white letters. I was looking for the Asus with the 90 Whr battery but all they are the older 1650's. I really need to go home with a laptop to use so that's it. I don't play much games games cause it makes me dizzy. I just like watching KZhead and some Facebook for entertainment. The Apple M1 would just suit me well but yaers of watching gaming laptop review how capable they are and I was intrigue by its looks and design. 90wh battery means no hdd bay, need to pay more for those mvme storage. I think its the only gaming laptop in 2022 that features a HDD bay, which its kinda cool.
exactly same model with 930usd.Worth it or no
is the second m.2 gen 4 too or is it gen 3
Computer parts are now getting cheaper, does that affect laptops too? The reason I bought a nitro 5 is because of its very competitive price/performance ratio but the 2022 model is just gross.

Okay, so what can I get that is better for a similar price?
You mention that the CPU throttles itself back to 60 degrees celsius once it has hit 90 degrees celsius. Can you elaborate on this? What exactly is the impact. If this were true, I'd expect the CPU to throttle significantly and benchmark results to crash within less than 30 seconds (because the CPU will hit that 90 degrees way quicker than that). For example, in the gaming benchmarks, you hardly see an impact on the FPS. But the video is showing only averages everywhere. I don't think I've seen a diagram that shows the sustained performance (or sustained CPU clock speed at least). What exactly happens under the hood and in terms of performance. Is there noticeable stuttering? And how far back does the CPU clock itself to get to this 60 degrees again? And is it really just 60 degrees that the laptop wants to do then? 60 degrees does not make much sense to me, it's so low. Is it really because of thermals or maybe because of other TDP settings (as Intel does a lot with their U range of CPU's (e.g. 8665U). And what is the impact of the different performance modes on this?
Buy this thing in late 2021. Tbh, im satisfied with its performance. But im kinda regret since in January, Lenovo announced Ideapad Gaming 3i with same spec but Lenovo made, which ya guys know how the quality is. But, its no a big problem, i still like this laptop tho.

Hey, I was looking for a new laptop around 1200/1400 euros and after a very long lasting research (based also on current availability) I'm stuck between the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 (basically the same here but with i7 12700H) and the MSI Katana GF66 12UD (same CPU but RTX 3050ti). The GF66 costs 100 euros less, but it doesn't seem to have a Thunderbolt port and also has a smaller battery. On the other hand, it has a much better display than Nitro 5. Which one would you suggest for both gaming and content creation use?
Which one did you end up getting
@@quoice7019 I got the Nitro 5 and, after 2 months of use, I have to say that the only two slight cons are the battery (because I also use it for study purposes, so I have to undervolt and lower some settings) and maybe the screen, since it appears a bit too dark with stronger external light. On the performance side, it's really good both for gaming and other stuff (personally I use it for music production). I don't game too hard but I've never had noticeable problems.
is it still good? planning to buy this one
@@lencape6009 It depends on the cost, it's been almost one year of use for me and it's quite great. For higher prices I think there might be something better on the market, also because the new Intels came out
