    • I received my A1 yesterday, and it makes horrible noise from the X-Axis. Almost like a broken bearing. Bambu support just adviced me it is completely normal: “What you are hearing are the bearings inside the MGN block of the linear rail. The bearings have a certain preload which makes them more precise, but slightly louder compared to other bearings. Please note though that this is normal it expected.” I don’t have this issue on my A1 mini, have you had these issues on your A1?

  • From a seven year 3d printer who started with a Flashforge, then Enders, then Prusas, your review is spot on. I don't want my hobby to be the printer. And I've ditched all of my printers for Bambus.

    • Dude, this. I've built the majority of printers I've had, and have even designed my own from scratch with all the bells and whistles. And you know what? I love the Bambu printers because I can focus on design and not on constantly fiddling with a printer. Ha. I got into a semi-argument with a fella over it, because he argued against things like the bambu, when trying to recommend a printer to a new user. But you can buy the cheap one and upgrade it and have control over every aspect! And it was just like yeah, but what if the user doesn't want to have to do any of that and just wants to design?!

    • This. I had an OG makerbot and it was amazing for the first month, then I kept re-learning the lesson that everyone makes printers that you spend too much time fixing. I basically stopped trying to 3d printing things years ago as I got sick of the fiddling. In my 20s I would be happy to geek out on this stuff, but now I can find better use for my time. Thanks Bambu.

    • Bambu printers are currently a good option but the Bambu founder idolizes Apple and puts patents on everything. We will have to see how things pan out but I'm guessing that in the long run Bambu will follow the Apple playbook: proprietary patents, lack of spare parts, and making people replace their "old printers" every few years.

  • In fairness to Bambu they called the earlier model the A1 mini which implied there would be an A1 non-mini since there was no such thing as an A1 in their lineup before the mini. It only took me a tiny bit of research to find that they were indeed going to release a full sized A1 and to wait for it.

    @Matt-pz4we@Matt-pz4we5 ай бұрын

    • Bambu ran into bad optics like this in the past. They had a sale on the P1P that got a lot of people to pull the trigger then announced the P1S shortly afterward when those ordering the P1P paid for the upgrades to basically make it a P1S minus a few things. I think the issue with the A1/Mini is that they came out with the mini first, instead of the full size. Based on the timeline it seems like they could have easily avoided this issue by either announcing the A1 was coming soon when they released the Mini, or by simply releasing them both at the same time.

I am impressed with the mini enough that I went ahead and ordered the A1 (keeping the mini). I stopped printing about 4 years ago because, like you said, I want to print and not tinker. My wife has asked how to print after seeing me printing and not messing with the printer. That is the main reason, and print size, I went ahead and order the A1 and will keep the mini. We will both be able to print and choose which one to based on print size.

The mini is perfect for many jobs I do and is my latest goto printer (sorry 1st gen craftbot, you've served me well - not sorry creality 5 s1 purchased a year ago, you're a piece of crap), and now getting an A1 as well. Having seen results from the X1 C and now having hands on with the mini, really impressed by what Bambu are doing, not just with the hardware but also the firmware, which is so far ahead of Creality even with the sonic pad that there's no point in any comparison.

I have been doing this with the resin printers since 2018, and when I needed to do working on the machine, talking with enthusiasts made me feel absolutely dumb, I hated to work with calibrating and replacing screens and such. • Thanks for the empathy to us new A1 Mini owners. It helps to not feel this disappointment alone. I wish it was at least announced with the A1 mini. They knew what they were doing by concealing it, and it just leaves a bit of a bitter taste for their brand now. Their return policy is also quite bad unfortunately. I think I just need to remind myself that I don't need the extra space for 95% of my prints, and then go out and spend the difference on something fun, like a bottle of whiskey.

    • Someone on reddit theorized that there was a delay in getting the A1 released and it was supposed to be released at the same time as the mini. And I totally buy the theory, it just makes a lot of sense. A ton of us would have bought the larger machine, so it's cost them revenue. And ill will, as so many mini owners are pissed that a new machine came out a week after they got their mini.

    • I have to say I'm a little miffed - but only slightly due to my (probably) uncommon situation. I personally own a P1P (upgraded to a P1S). But I did buy a A1 Mini for my foster son for Christmas and (had I known about it) would have likely gotten him the non-mini instead. But he can still have access to my machine for the (likely few) cases when he does need the bigger print volume and the mini is a bit more portable so I know it will end up working well for him.

      @MonkeyWithAKnife@MonkeyWithAKnife5 ай бұрын
    • I think the A1 would be an awesome starter printer. I have the bigger brother printers from Bambu, but if it's that same kind of tech and craftsmanship. Others might argue you down to cheaper printers, and they aren't bad, but it's like was said in this video. A lot of those other printers are just the same ol with their styling slapped on. They don't have the same craftsmanship or quality that a company like Bambu puts into their printers. These Bambu printers are on the top of my list when recommending to new users that aren't interested in endlessly fiddling with printer mechanics, and just want something that works so they can focus on design.

      @HarveyVarietyHour@HarveyVarietyHour5 ай бұрын
    • @@HarveyVarietyHour i agree with the easy of use and the pure workhorse mentality of the bambu printers but id shell out that little bit extra for the p1p instead of the a1 for a couple of reason. 1. Bedslingers are notorious for producing artifacts printing at medium to high speed. 2. Bedslingers require more countertop space. 3. If you later on get an AMS for the p1p it also acts as a drybox for your available filaments. 4. You have a better upgrade path to a p1s with the upgrade kit for the p1p. You could push it to almost x1c level though no carbon tubes and big screen. On the other hand if you want to tinker a little bit there are some great deals to be made, but i fully understand that, that isnt for everyone. I tinker a lot with some of my printers but my x1 is my stock workhorse that will never be out of service except light maintainance. Ive recently acquired a k1 max from creality since they can now be rooted and i can run stock klipper + whatever upgrades i feel like on it with the added bonus that the 300x300 bed on the k1 max gives me just that bit more room i wish for in the x1c. Thats just my two cents though and experiences may vary.

Thats the biggest point of Bambu , is the user experience. So far I am also having that with my K1 Max and Ender 3 V3 KE as well with Creality Print. I will most likely get the A1 without the AMS lite as I dont do much Multicolor printing and I have my P1S combo for that anyway. I will use it like a production machine with the P1S in Orca. Great vid as always. Cheers on your success and hoping you continue to excel.

  • Nice review. I'm definitely in both worlds. I make a lot of models for parts to support my other hobbies and love being able to quickly iterate designs of useable prints without having to mess with the printer. I also have several printers that have been torn down to every nut and bolt over the years and reassembled with the cool new part-of-the-month, most recently getting things converted over to e3D's Revo ecosystem (which is glorious for reinvigorating an old V6 nozzle printer IMO). I agree that there are 2 separate hobbies of printing 3D models and tinkering with 3D printers.

  • My safety word is "UX" ;) Honestly, this is such a good review for me purely because of the distinction you make between a printer hobbyist and a printed items hobbyist... it's always very hard to sus out user friendliness from the average 3d printer review, probably because the people making these reviews are so into the machinery part of it they no longer can see it from the perspective of a novice. I have two printers and the maintenance part always bums me out so much I just hit this road block of postponing it until it turns into me not using the machine at all anymore... simply because of the level of knowledge you're expected to have! I'm too dumb for it imo, so this easier "just scan the code" approach would work very well for me. Putting Bambu on my list now!

    @Elkyrie2@Elkyrie25 ай бұрын
    • That's a good way of seeing it. This video mentions that most other printers look like hobby products while the Bambu machines look like consumer products, but... that is mostly looks. I remember tinkering endlessly with an old RepRap just to get it to even finish a print, but is that still really the case for the more recent machines? My current printer (Prusa MK4) looks rather industrial but it's been rock solid and I have not had to tinker with it at all. Plug and play. I've a few friends with slightly older models from various brands, and they haven't had to do much maintenance on them either. My safety word is: WAF. If the wife can use it, it's good. And she can. Has no problems using modern slicer software, loading up the printer, and producing stuff. It's nice and all that you can scan a barcode on the filament spool and scan a code to look up error conditions of the printer, but in the long run it's FAR more useful to actually understand the properties of the materials you're working with, and understand what is going on with the machine when it fails a print. Looks and cutesy UI touches only get you so far, what matters in the end is how well the printer hardware will hold up, and how reliably it prints. So far, the Bambu stuff seems to do well on that score but they are certainly not the only ones. Where Bambu is killing it IMHO is value for money. I'm considering a second small printer for fast prototypes while the main printer is working on other prints, and the A1 Mini is looking pretty good for the price. Even if I despise the Bambu business model.

  • This is the issue with Bambu, they seem to be shooting themselves in the foot by not listening to their customers. I love the A1 and A1 Mini, I'm glad they exist, but really, a 350 cubed X1C should've come first since all of us who ALREADY paid them want that more than anything, I got tired of waiting and bought a K1 Max, so they've now lost my business lol.

    @kylequinn1963@kylequinn19635 ай бұрын
    • But . . . They’ve said that simply going bigger on the X1 wouldn’t give the best quality or experience, and they do have something bigger planned but they need the time to fully develop the tech before announcing anything. I’m happy to wait to see what they come up with in time, more so than dropping back to Creality and their well documented quality and customer support experiences. Which I have experienced first hand with their products - their support channel couldn’t be bothered to reply to the first 4 attempts at contacting them over three weeks with an issue on a new printer and when they finally did reply they just sent a link to a forum where the problem was being discussed but not resolved. They also flatly refused to honour UK law (via their UK sales store) on warranty and cancellation policies, so Creality - no thanks, but good luck with your K1.

    • It's just you and 10 other "enthusiasts" who are yelling about this. Most people do not need a massive printer for printing a toy once in a while for shits and giggles. The X1 is already really expensive for anyone that doesn't have a greater currency and is considered a "fancy" printer. They're trying to open the market up to mainstream people. No one is gonna buy their 14 year old kid a X1CMaxProCombo for $2500. They'll buy them a A1 mini.

      @KryaDiere@KryaDiere5 ай бұрын
    • @@Axel-gh6vj I’m fine with that, if they have solid enough tech and software to give the rest of the manufacturers a good run, it’s just giving more choice to the buyer, and if it means that some of the manufacturers need to rethink their offering, then so be it. Personally I’d rather see Bambu develop and sell a wider range of products to bring in additional revenue while continuing to develop an even better (and bigger) CoreXY solution, than rush out something that’s simply a scaled up version of the X1C because that would just have people asking ‘why a scale up, why haven’t you moved on’ ? What I’d be really interested in for a scaled up CoreXY would be a multi-printhead solution to even further cut down on the waste and reduce filament change times, probably a bit like the Prusa XL idea, only with the ‘let’s do it better’ Bambu slant. I know a lot of people are criticising BL for bringing out the bed slingers, but at the end of the day, the A1 and A1Mini are not only going to make ideal general consumer machines, they’re going to make ideal larger scale farm machines as well.

  • Bambu is becoming the Apple of 3D Printers. I'm really conflicted with this A1. I mean yes its a Bambu and yes it nice looking and Im sure will print every bit as good as their other printers ,BUT this screams to me that instead of listening to their customers about a larger Core XY they said blah blah blah we are going to give you exactly what you didn't ask for. Bambu Lab is Known for their Core XY printers, its what made them a household name in 3d printing. I think they are getting full on their own Kool-Aid and not listening to their customers and going the Apple route with you will like what we give you and be happy. I love my Bambu Lab P1S, but my new K1 Max is easily as good now after Creality fixed their issues. I just installed a Micro Swiss Flowtech Hotend in my K1 and its even better. Importantly, they're more like the Apple of the 2000s that was actually innovating and pushing the industry rather than the Apple of the 2010s which just focused on charging as much as possible for proprietary. The other key distinction is that sure, Bambu Lab isn't cheap, but it also isn't insanely expensive like Apple. If this was just a marked up premium looking printer with no benefits, it would be $800 for the sleek looks rather than $400. It's clearly very functional, it has features many machines don't, it looks really nice, it's good for newbies and the experienced alike, and it's not 2-3X the cost of the most comparable machines. Fair play. It should and will sell well.

  • My safety word is plethora. Really enjoyed the review and agree with you, bambu are the only people who have tackled the pain point of printing. And it's funny watching the other competitors going after speed rather than all of the other issues.

  • My safety word is that I don't have a safety word. I'm not into that. And I replaced my old 3D printer that I built from a kit to a Bambu Labs X1-Carbon printer with the AMS. My first print was perfect and I'm printing like a pro now, thanks to the AI technology on this printer. I'm a Bambu Labs fanboy and I love it!

  • I spent literally months researching printers. Ended up getting the X1-C. I love the machine. I’m just here looking at a gift idea for a friend.

    • @@FauxHammer I got mine for similar reasons you did. System self diagnosing, ease of prints and software, modular designs, online part catalog, and filament automation. Definitely buy once, cry once.

  • i have a ender 3 pro but i am happy with qualliti is really good if you print ab it slower and get rid of the old filament drive and use a direct drive. i have a bltouch to but only for consistent z height bed leveling i have done with a precision millimeter dial or how it es called.

  • I've watched a lot of videos on this printer but yours definitely stood out. Even subscribed which is not common for me. You have a very palatable style that resonates well with your viewer. Keep up the good work!

  • If it was not for them being a fire hazard and not being available. This would be my upgrade from a flashforge adventure 3. Which has done quite a bit of brackets and stuff for me. But I want more. I want prints that I don’t need to glue extra parts on before I paint them. And this would be it. I could definitely go for the mini but having that extra space will eventually be awesome

  • I bought the A1 Mini because a friend recommended it to me. am very happy with it. If I'm going to upgrade, I'll do it to the x1 carbon. then I make a mega step instead of just a bigger bed.

  • Great review thanks mate. I'm on the market for a 3D printer, having always wanted one. My only question is what's the practical advantage of a enclosed printer vs open one? Cheers

  • I 100% agree with you on being tired and don't want to tinker anymore.

  • The arguments you made for this printer is why i bought a glow forge a few years ago. I wanted a tool not a project.

  • Great review, thanks. I'm fed up with my ender 3 pro and its inconsistent prints and the amount of tinkering I needed to do to get what I consider good results. I'm not against the "printer as a hobby" mentality, I'm just over it and want to print useful things without tinkering. I am glad I waited though, with the current ongoing recall. This A1 seems like a pretty awesome bed slinger aside from the launch hiccup that I'm sure they'll rectify. I was considering a P1P, but at $200 more it would need to have a bigger bed for me to choose it over the A1.

  • Thanks for the review! I'm still torn between this and the P1P, especially due to the ease of enclosing the latter.

  • Started with a Kingroon KP3S, going to build an Annex K3 and call it a day. Everyone and their mother is reviewing the “next greatest printer”

  • I understand, Bambu's printer's are very anti open source. BUT my P1S working flawlessly out of the box makes me want to build a Voron to tinker with. I like tinkering, but I also really like things just working sometimes. Now when I build a Voron I don't have to worry about "shit do I need to dial in the Voron to get this print perfect" if its a print that I really need right the first time I can just chuck it on the P1S and not worry. It gives me the time to tinker

  • Skipped on other bed slingers for a P1S on black friday, I'm not super shook up about now having a enclosed, consistent core x-y printer. Really hope that silent motor stuff comes to the P1S soon.
