The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says more than 10,000 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since Israel started bombing it last month.
More than 4,000 of those killed were children, the ministry said.
The number surpasses the UN's figure of about 5,400 killed in Gaza in all of Israel's previous conflicts with Hamas since it took control of the territory in 2007.
Israel began bombing Gaza after Hamas killed 1,400 people and kidnapped more than 200 others on 7 October.
It says it is destroying Hamas infrastructure and killing its fighters so that it will no longer be able to pose a threat to Israel.
The BBC's Fergal Keane reports on the children suffering in Gaza, and the impact the war is having on them and their families.

Israel has opened a safe corridor for all civilians to escape the North Gaza strip to the South, where there are plenty of safe locations with shelter, food, water, supplies provided by the UN. Why does the Hamas bomb this corridor? Put up road blocks? Shoot civilians trying to escape? Well, you will have to ask them. They are the ones who make rockets out of water pipes. They are the ones who fire rockets from civilian locations (schools, mosques, houses) in direct violation of international law, and aim them at civilian concentrations, again in direct violation of international law. They are the ones who turned Gaza into Afghanistan instead of turning it into Singapore. Ask Hamas.

Don't expect from antisemitic British to care about Jews. They prevented Jews from escaping to the Holy Land, that they occupied under mandate from a League of Nation that was given to Britain to build a Jewish Home Land. And the did it all the time that Jews has nowhere to run, basically sending them back to the German extermination camps, all while stealing the Jewish land and creating this issue of "palestinians" by encouraging Arab immigration from nearby countries into Jewish land. And Britain continued to murder Jews and prevent them from immigrating to Israel till the very last second they were occupying the Holy Land. Shame on British and Britain.
Let's not forget about all the massacres of Jews that British allowed, as well the ones that they did themselves, during the British occupation of the Holy Land, between 1920 and 1948. I agree with you it’s very sad. I also wish we had peace but unfortunately, on 10/7 Hamas declared war. Since Hamas bit off more than they could chew when they declared war, they are now using meat shields, hostages, and third world terrorist propaganda to fight their battles.
