  • INCREASED ACCURACY ON DROPS TIP. Guys, if you want to increase the accuracy of the drops then you should change the release mechanism on your lifter. At the moment it's purely mechanical and you have to give it a tug, which of course, causes the falling object to sway. It would be much better to have a small electromagnetic lock. Just press the button, the current stops, the magnetic force disappears and each object falls. The only factor left then is the wind. Please like this comment so that the guys can see it.

    @conanthecribber@conanthecribber3 жыл бұрын
    • That misses the point of the "sport". Perfect drops is easy.

    • The trouble with EM release, though, is that it isn't failsafe. If the power gets cut off to the magnet while you're lifting, there isn't anything there to stop the object from falling. With the mechanical system, though, the safety pin holds the entire latch assembly together making it virtually impossible to release without the operator's say-so. Plus, I don't know of any electromagnets, outside of scrapyard excavators, that are powerful enough to hold a 100kg mass reliably.

      @willburton-edwards2882@willburton-edwards28823 жыл бұрын
    • @@willburton-edwards2882 I would definitely have the safety pin whilst lifting, anything else would be suicidal. I was only talking about the release. I've certainly worked with EM's the size of a car battery that easily take 100kg. Here's a fun video showing what can be done. kzhead.info/sun/fJuLg8abqmOPnJ8/bejne.html

      @ryanmarshall7994@ryanmarshall79943 жыл бұрын
    • @@ryanmarshall7994 gyroscopic effect is the tendency to maintain steady spin state along an axis of rotation. Bullets don't spin FOR gyroscopic effect - their spin IS a gyroscopic effect which increases their range and accuracy. I think a simple spin of the string in this case would likely cause some level of gyroscopic effect on the sword. But I'm not a physicist lol.

      @Eric-469@Eric-4693 жыл бұрын
    • @@Eric-469 I said it a bit awkwardly but I meant that bullets are spun for that reason. The angular momentum resisting a change in direction of rotation keeping them pointed in that direction. Having a small radius and not getting a high speed of spin means a pretty small angular momentum but unlike a bullet has a lot more force acting on it. It won't make a difference unless being stupid fast.

  • If you guys ever end up looking for an even bigger sword or something, you should call up MichaelCthulhu about a colab. He makes ridiculous weapons from games and such out of industrial grade hardox steel which is close to the same hardness as AR 500 steel they use for body armour. We're talking flippin big swords from Final Fantasy and Berserk to name just two, he's made swords as heavy as 50 lbs and axes upwards of 80 to 90 lbs! His whole thing is dropping big heavy things on other things, just with his hands rather than a tower, so I feel you'd have that in common. Personally, I think it'd be cool if you got him to make a really thick Captain America shield or something to drop stuff on, maybe a Hulk and or Thor vs Cap video even? I'm sure if you wanted something heavier than that he'd find a way, he mostly doesn't because that's about as much as a person can lift and drop without hurting themselves.

  • There really shouldn't be spaces in the paper to get a true gauge of how much paper it could get through. That's the whole point behind the "how many sheets of paper can something get through" idea because it's tougher the thicker it is, but with spaces it's strength is reduced. I would've also suggested to sharpen the sword since that's almost just dropping a blunt piece of metal on it and hoping it goes through with velocity alone but if it had a sharpened edge it would be cutting the paper instead of trying to just push through it. It was a cool video overall still though for sure.
